I was wondering which format the majority of the Gundam collectors here on the Forum prefer.
For me, the line I can't get enough of is the 1/200 HCM Pro figures. These things are surprisingly well made for such tiny figures; the attention to detail and articulation is outstanding!
Also, these guys just seem to fit in with the other Bots in my collection much better than the larger scale Gundams. Since the average Gundam ranges between 15 to 22 meters tall, the 1/200 scale figures seem closer to the scale of my Super-Robot SOCs and other figures. My HCM Pro RX-78 comes up to just past the knee of my SOC-Spec. EVA Unit 01. This just feels more "right" than having a 18 meter tall robot looking the EVA in the eye, or worse, towering over it!
So; which scale / type do the other Gundam fans out there prefer?

I really loved the 8" Arch Enemy series that were produced for the U.S. about 3 years ago.

I really loved the 8" Arch Enemy series that were produced for the U.S. about 3 years ago. I saw a few pictures of these online; they looked pretty well made. I just can't get past the 7 to 8 inch size, though. I guess I'm a little OCD when it comes to keeping things in my collection close to the correct scale. The 1/200 HCM Pro Gundams work for me (until they create a smaller scale, equally well made line! ) By the way; how many different Mobile Suits are in the Arch Enemy series? I've checked out a few Fix figures at conventions and Anime stores, and I have to admit, the detail and paint apps are impressive! I've never handled them out of the package, though. How does the construction/articulation compare to the HCM Pro figures?

5 ms in the arch enemy line- zero custom, tallgeese III, rx-78, char's gelgoog, aile strike gundam.
As for the fix gundams, it varies from one to another.

As of recently, it's the new 1/100 Metal Fix series. Nicely sculpted, high poseability, and hefty!
Too bad there are only two "real" variants out now.

I love the 1/100 Metal Fix figures as well. They put two out so far, and they are both flawless. Personally, I think they are under priced for the quality, details, and die-cast provide. I am really eager to see which mecha is the next Metal Fix. As of recently, it's the new 1/100 Metal Fix series. Nicely sculpted, high poseability, and hefty! Too bad there are only two "real" variants out now.

I voted "Other" because my favorites are the 1/144 scale Kado Senshi and Kahen Senshi figures. Most anime accurate sculpts and details, combined with generous amounts of diecast, all wrapped up in a highly articulated figure that is just the right size to be playable. Also helps that it is in scale with GFF, Zeonography, Cosmic Region, 00 Region, Super HCM Pro and even SCM.

Die cast frames with ABS armor, and none of the rubbery PVC, except for the V fins. Very nice poseability and tampo printing of the regular fix series.
The original RX-78-2 and G-Armor has problem with fingerprint leaving smudges (did I tell you that these figures are painted and not just molded in white plastics?) in the white paint easily, but otherwise, they are sweet.

I really like the Metal Material/GQ format. High quality figures with plenty of gimmicks and diecast. The GQ are especially playable right out of the box. I also like the Metal GFF series but wish these figures had more in the way of gimmicks (like the HCM Pro and Super HCM Pro). BTW, I think the HCM Pros are fantastic--terrific poseability, articulation, and packed with features and fine detail for such tiny figures. I don't mind the small size because of storage space considerations.

That explains why they have such a great feel when they are in your hand. Thanks for the info. ..did I tell you that these figures are painted and not just molded in white plastics?

I have a mess of Gundams, but my favorite figures for poseability, playability, and detail are the 1/144 HGUC models. I like the size better than the 1/100, but that's just a personal preferrence. I love building the PG kits, but after having two panels on the Strike snap off in my fingers I just said, "That's it with these things!" Pity. All that engineering, and attention to detail just to have a fiddly, fussy, floppy, won't hold a pose,'don't touch me or I'll break', shelf sissy of a useless figure for all your money and effort. (You might get the idea here, that I'm somewhat disillusioned with PG models.) JWM

I really loved the 8" Arch Enemy series that were produced for the U.S. about 3 years ago. Agreed, but they never expanded on the format. I voted for Perfect Grade, since come on being realistic-that is the preferred format. However, it is not the cheapest, so Master Grade 1/100 would be a close second.

im only interested with Universal Century mobile suits, and only with 1/144 and 1/100 scales. so the best series for me would be 1/144 HGUC, 1/100 UC MGs, and UC GFF Metal Composites. pass on the following:
HCM-Pro - they are great, but too small for my taste.
Super HCM-Pro - kinda expensive for 1/144 scale. and i can get my detail fix with 1/100 MGs.
1/60 PGs - very expensive, way out of my budget. and very minimal selection of mobile suits.
1/144 GFF - the quality is not consistent. like poor detail painting and paint bleeds on some.

I used to be a big fan of the 1/144 HGUC line as well. Many of the kits are engineering marvels; their construction rivals many of the earlier 1/100 MG kits. They are also much more affordable than the MG kits, so it's easier on the wallet to build up a huge MS army. The only drawback to the HGUC's (and the HG"alternate universe" kits) for me is that I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to scale. I like the fact that the HCM Pro figures are closer to "in-scale" with a lot of my Super Robots, so when I look at them in my display, I can easily imagine what it would be like if the RX 78 tried to take on Mazinger, Gurren Lagaan, or Eva 01. The price of the HCM PROs is pretty high for such small figures, however. Because of this, I have to seriously consider each new 'bot I add to my collection.

I like the KS series @ 1/144, the DX 12" Series at approximately 1/60, the MMM series @1/100 and finally the Jumbos @ 1/35
The Academy MkII bootlegs ranks among my most favorite Gundam items I think that's aboout 1/48
I'd like some 1/48s resin kits as well if I could get them pre-built at a reasonably cheap price [unlikely].
I particularly like these because of either their size, quality or materials.
Needless to say the KS & MMM series are well sculpted, built and decently priced.
I like the DX mainly due to its quality & size.
Finally, I like the jumbos just for its sheer size and presence.

One thing about the DX 1/60's...they don't have the detail work as the 1/60 MG's. Close, but not quite. They are ok for the price, but I guess I expected more. A little different from the vintage DX's in that the vintage stuff are most definitely toys. Whereas the DX 1/60's are sort of in between a toy and a model. I have the RX-93, the Sazabi, the two Stardust Memories suits.

recently i got my first GFF #0012 Titans RX-178 to pair with my GFF MC Psyco Gundam, to show the scale of my 1/144 Psyco. well i was not dissapointed with the quality, it was very very nice. i dig the matte finish, the many accessories and decals. there is some minor paint flaws but it can be touched up easily with paint and matte top coat. now im thinking of getting deepstriker, FAZZ, EX-S gundam and the Zeta Plus variants as my next GFF purchase (",)
