Yep, does look like a knock off of the Valkyrie Girl kit released in the mid-80's. Don't recall which company released it though.

Though from what I heard, the kit suffered from very bad molds and fittings, but nothing a little elbow grease and tons of filler putty won't fix

Actually, it's Bandai. There are other variants IIRC, but so far this is what I found on MW's model archives.
