What I'm noticing from these lists that peoples favorites and worst are all over the place which is a great indication that Bandai SHOULDN'T change what it's been doing. It's catering to all fans instead of a slice and I'm glad that they've stuck for the most part with variety instead of just focusing on a select market/show/creator, that would have been boring and I would have stopped collecting SOC's years ago.

I agree. They've done a good job of covering lots of styles, types, and eras of robots. I hope they keep it up.

I also agree with Chen, and that's a good point. What we've seen here is Variety, and a perfect example of that is the inclusion of King Joe (not bad, for not being a super-robot category character)... ...I believe his saving grace is his ability to separate into parts, his detail, and his articulation; plus it was easy to sculp him without any accessories (if he had any, I dunno, I don't have a King Joe SOC). Therefore Bandai should continue doing whatever it is they're doing, as well as bring onboard some new innovations to their SOC line. (and also, make more SOCs covering robots which haven't been SOC'ed yet. zozo-magengar

I think some of the detest of King Joe or BFJ or Leopaldon is the lack of knowledge of just how popular and important Sentai and Ultra Man is in Japanese culture and Super Robots in general. Sentai has pretty much been going non-stop for over 30 years which is more than can be said of most in not all Super robot shows while Ultra Man has had big screen movies about it made. Remember these are products for the Japanese population, the fact that a fan in North America or Italy or where ever is also a fan is a nice plus but it has little bearing on what Bandai will release to a Japanese public which was exposed to EVERY Super Robot, Sentai, Ultra Man etc. shows and not just the very limited number of shows other countries aired.

I like King Joe because of his super retro look. Like Gold Lightan, he stands out in a collection despite his size.

King Joe had to be made! If not, who would these "Ultra Chogokin" fellows play with?! I do agree that maybe King Joe does not belong in the Soul of Chogokin line, and perhaps deserved a GD designation instead. However, I could say the same thing about every other figure in the line that is not a classic Super Robot - such as the EVAs, Sentai, and SRW entries... but that has been discussed before. }D

Yeah, I appreciate the variety of robots that Bandai has released via SOC. As I mentioned, I only really know about 20% of what they have put out (Mazinger, Great Mazinger, Voltes V, Gaiking, Getter, Mazinger girls). I also started buying some of the DVDs associated. But quite frankly, only few of those shows stand the test of time. When I watch them, they kinda just ruin my good memories of the shows. Crudely made, bad translation or the lack of it, cheesy and predictable plots, etc... However, few of them have surprised me. Gunbuster no surprise. Love the SOC (my #1 fav SOC) and the series.

Chen's right. Sentai and Ultraman stuff have been around much longer than the Super-robot era. Let's not forget Daimajin-- although he's not a robot, he certainly fits in the Kaiju category with Godzilla and all them other Japanese sci-fi giant monsters. Hands Down, they've been a part of Japanese sci-fi pop culture since the start of that niche. They're what started it all. I might add that Ultraman and many of those other relative live-action tv shows (Ambassador Magma, Zonefighter, Johnny Sokko GR, and other similars) have set the Japanese action hero standard and inspired the creation of the anime super-robots. Everything else along came like the domino effect. I'm not surprized to see non super-robot characters induced into the SOC line. I'd welcome them as much as I'd welcome RunDMC into the Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Fame. zozo-Magengar

I am quite impressed that the SOC line managed to create a masterpiece (in my opinion) at #13, Gunbuster. We are soon up to GX54.
I can't believe that it has been 10 years since I've started collecting SOC's.
How long has it been for you guys?

Mine was GX02 Great Mazinger. I really wanted a Mazinger Z but the store didn't have it. I didn't even know the SOC line prior to this purchase. I was hooked since then... Bought GX04 right after that and then GX03. I then made the mistake of buying the black and white version of the GX01 (don't like the B&W series and its breast plates would not stay on).

GX-01 was released in Dec. 1997. I started to collect SOCs in Feb. 1998.

I started collecting SOCs just almost four years ago right after I joined RJ, starting with the GX-01R. Last month I started collecting the little chogokins beginning with Mazinger-Z, and today I received the Great Mazinger chogokin in the mail (thanks to RJer Ironplant). With these in hand, I hope to stay focused on my main collection objective: Mazinger Anything. ;D Of course, I can't ignore other robots in the Bandai diecast relm... although I may not want to own certain robots, they're all still awesome and quite a sight to behold. Best of all, I love the box arts for all these fine specimens... I like to scan the boxes, because they're definitely Tshirt-worthy. zozo-Magengar

Last: GX-50 Combattler V. An impulse buy. I regret it already.

Like: Baikanfu Drossel - she's a soc in my book! Dancouga
Dislike: Combattler - I wish I could personally oversee his redesign Gunbuster - good engineering, I'm just not into him
