I know that this has been done countless of times. But it has been a while and lots of new SOC's have been released (I still consider the SPEC, BPX, PX lines to be SOC's).
My Top 10 Favorites:
1. GX34 Gunbuster (Engineering marvel and it just looks fantastic) 2. GX13 Dancouga (Awesome design and the robot looks great, separately too) 3. GX46 Dygenguar & Außenseiter (I am blown away every time I see it) 4. GX31V Voltes V (Much better than the GX31, less floppy/more stable) 5. GX43 Daimos (Amazing design and it brings back so many good memories) 6. GX-45 Mazinger Z: Shin Mazinger Z Ver. (Better design than the earlier versions) 7. GX-09MA Minerva X (Total beauty, love the head gear) 8. GX-04 UFO Robo Grendizer (Nostalgia and I love how the robot fits perfectly in the ship) 9. XS-06 Dragonar-1 & Cavalier 0 (Unique look... Bad Ass! I am a slave of the SPEC line) 10. BPX01 Spaceship Yamato (It looks so different from the rest of my collection. Love it)
Top Ten Least Favorite SOC's 1. GX-03 Combattler V (So unstable, I dropped parts of it so many different times) 2. GX-23 Zambot 3 (Yucky blocky design and I broke the little robot's leg) 3. GX-36 Ideon (Mine keeps on bowing forward or tilting back. Plus, I am sick of red robots!) 4. GX-37 King Joe (Keeps separating from the middle) 5. GX-30 Battle Fever Robo (Total cheese and it looks cheap) 6. GX-01X Motorized Hangar (This would be one of my fav's if it did not break down) 7. GX-05 Daiku Maryu Gaiking (Flimsy, parts keep falling off. The tiny robot is too delicate) 8. PX-02 Masked Rider Cyclone (The figure is impossible to pose plus its clothing keeps falling off) 9. GX-39 Baikanfu (This robot also looks kinda cheap to me, I do like the design) 10. GX-42 Kotetsushin Jeeg (Unstable, I hate the magnetic joints)
It's funny how my top three favorites are robots that I nitially have not heard about--they are not based on nostalgia. Heck, I've never heard 80% of the SOC line robots.

There are a lot of SOCs out there, but I do not have them all. I'll just comment on the ones I do have and will keep it only to the Bandai SOC line:
10 Favorites (best liked first):
1. GX-01R Mazinger Z (best Mazinger Z rendition ever produced) 2. GX-01R+ Tamashii Exclusive Mazinger Z (best head sculpt ever and NO chrome!) 3. GX-01 Mazinger Z (the one that started it all!) 4. GX-02R Great Mazinger (the head is small but still an awesome rendition of GMaz!) 5. GX-02 Great Mazinger 6. GX-45A Shin Mazinger Tamashii Exclusive Atami Night (hate the sparkly paint, but the use of chrome was awesome!) 7. GX-45 Shin Mazinger (better articulation that the GX-01R and GX-07, but it's balls hang out, has stupid looking elbow plates, and it is a midget) 8. GX-04S UFO Robo Grendizer with Spacer Set (what can I say...) 9. GX-18, GX-19, GX-20 Getter Robo G Set (enough said...) 10. GX-06 Getter Robo Set (see comment above)
Least favorite (least liked first):
1. GX-34 Gunbuster (hated it from the moment I combined it - put it back in the box after a few days on display - remains boxed somewhere) 2. GX-41S Raideen DX Set (Tiny, flimsy, plastic legs, expensive, skinny... dissapointment) 3. GX-42 Kotetsushin Jeeg (Unstable as hell) 4. GX-28 Xabungle (Tiny, tiny, tiny...) 5. GX-05 Daiku Maryu Gaiking (small and delicate) 6. GX-49 Shin Mazinger God Scrander ver. (I don't even know why I bought this stupid contraption!) 7. GX-35 Walker Gallia (Impulse buy - never liked the design, the character, or the anime) 8. GX-47 Energer Z (RED?!, what was Bandai thinking?!!!) 9. GX-24 Tetsujin 28 (another impulse buy - don't even like the design) 10. GX-29 Black Ox (same as above)

My first fortunate SOC love ever: the Mazinger-Z GX-01R. Butt, I only have ONE SOC, therefore I don't qualify to participate in this thread...
...This thread will be my "crystal ball"-- --meaning, At least I'll get to see how this will help me avoid things like Buyers Impulse and SOC Dissappointment when I shop for more Bandai SOCs... ;D
...by the time I can finally list my Top-Ten-Favorite/Hated SOCs I'll have been committed to a nursing home with arthritis pains and broken bones from posing all those SOCs until then. ;D

Top: -GX-07 Maz in OVA simplicity. -GX-18, -19, and -20. Getter G set.
Bottom: -GX-38: Iron Gear. Ugly, bulky. Best tranformation? Into a paper weight. -GX-28: Xabungle. Where's the Gokin? Makes the Walker Gallia look like a cool design.

GX-24 Tetsujin 28 (another impulse buy - don't even like the design) 10. GX-29 Black Ox (same as above) }\ mazingerz you really live up to your name!! My 10 favorite: 1. GX-23 Zambot 3 (despite many not liking this guy, he is heavy, classic looking, lots of playability, and sturdy. Love this guy) 2. GX-40 Godmars (nostalgia) 3. GX-46 D&A (although horse mode is a statue, does look awesome, robot mode is great too) 4. GX-31V Voltes (detailed and great looking) 5. GX-48 Big-O (simple and looks great) 6. GX-45 Mazinger (this sets the par for all other non-transforming bots in the future) 7. GX-32 Gold Lightan (this set is where it all started for me, so gotta put him up here) 8. GX-24 Tetsujin (nostalgia) 9. GX-04 Grendizer UFO (nostalgia plus great look / playability / vivid color) 10. GX-44 tetsujin (nostalgia, plus it sets the foundation that leads to gx-45's great articulation) Least favorite: 1. GX-41 Reideen (super floppy, just not fun to play with) 2. any of the EVAs (don't own any, not a big fan of the mech design, not fault of the toy itself) 3. mazinger angels (too much chrome for me, again, don't own any) 4. GX-27 Gaiking (don't get me wrong, i love this toy, but in powered up mode this guy is very floppy and takes patient just to have it stand up right) 5. GX-39 Baikanfu (I love the bot design in the anime and it brings back childhood memories. I also love the engineering that was brought into this toy. BUT, Bandai's design of the biggest red robot reminds me of an elderly woman with sagging breasts, which to me doesn't hold well on a super robot, i wish Bandai had done something different there, anybody else with me?)

When I first saw this topic I thought "Jeez not again..." But after seeing a few posts I'm panting like a dog in heat. So: Favorites: 1. GX1R----Captures the essence, or "soul" of the classic chogokin, as well as MazingerZ cartoon version. 2. GX2R-----Most people would skip this in deference to Z, but I actually became aware of GREAT Mazinger as a child first. So nostalogia.... 3. GX-06M----Same as #1, just a different flavor. 4. GX-31 Voltes V-----Solid gattai, poseability and PRESENCE. It sets the standard for combiners. 5. Getter Poseidon----The heft & funkiness are more appealing than I would've thought. 6. Boss Borot----Boss is a freakin' HAND GRENADE with limbs. 7. Ideon----Fun,fun transformation and, despite other people's experiences----mine's pretty stable. Has great presence, heft and poseability. 8. GX-04S Grendizer-----It's actually fun flying him around in saucer mode. I didn't think it'd be, but it is. He's the king of space and the king of DISPLAY MODE! 9. GX-34 Gunbuster. I love the design style, the anime behind it and the engineering and execution of it all. 10. GD-99 Aquarion. The look and presence of Solar Aquarion with wings extended is a thing of beauty. Least Favorites: 1. GD-99 Aquarion. Yeah he's on this list, too. He can barely stand on his own (thanks to Kawamori's inclusion of anti-gravity in the anime design. Real smart move there...) and he's very wear-prone. 2. GX-41 Raideen. Even though it's a KILLER display set, it is very very floppy. 3. Zambot3. If the anime robot moved like Frankenstein, it's lack of articulation wouldn't be a big deal. But the real Zambot moves like a superhero, so yeah.....it's a disappointment. 4. ... 5.,6.,ect.... There's not enough SOCs that I hate. I think I have a pretty intuitive sense of what I'm gonna like before I buy it. I've only been dead wrong a few times. I have all the Mazinger fembots & Chrome angels except one, and though they're not what I'd put on the favorites list, I can't imagine not owning them. Actually, I'm pretty fickle. Some of them might actually BE on the favorites depending on my mood. The same with Iron Gear and others. ;D What I'm trying to say is that I take all "greatest" lists with a grain of salt INCLUDING MY OWN. The most important thing is what I like right now.

It's awesome to see that Gunbuster has made it on most people's fav list.
I surprise myself that a number of the big, more complex robots made my bottom list. I guess I have more expectations from them since they cost more and are larger. In many ways, I much prefer the bigger ones over the small ones that are more straightforward (very little bells and whistles).
The rest of the 30+ SOC's I have that didn't make the best and worst are the ones that I give the least attention to. All the Mazinger girls are alright (I do want to get the really rare ones, I have two of them). Though I like the EVA design, I feel that I have way too many of them (I have 10). And the getters don't really do anything for me. That's funny because I think that the series were shown in the Philippines when I was a kid. However, it's the show that had the least impact on me. On the other hand, I did really enjoy the Getter Armageddon series.
Lastly, I am not at all excited about the upcoming SOC's. I've been mentioning this for a while... Maybe it's real this time/long lasting/permanent. Maybe because my two glass shelves are totally filled and I am running out of space. Or maybe Bandai is just running out of robots to release. I stopped keeping track of robot shows in the seventies and so who knows?... There may be a lot more cool robots to be released.
I do really want to have the Aquarion robot set. I know, this is not technically an SOC. Plus, this is like a few years old. See.... The new SOC's are just not that exciting. Mazinger, then Getter, then Mazinger, then Getter and now another Zambot-like robot (Zambot is one of my least favorite SOC).
Thanks for listening to my rants/complaints. Am I alone on this?

My personal top 10 SOCs 1. Godmars (big and impressive) 2. Daimos (lots of weapons and looks perfect in both modes, trasformation issues aside) 3. Ideon 4. Gx-50 Combattler 5. Gunbuster 6. Dancougar 7. Gx-02R Great Mazinger (simple and elegant to look at) 8. Dygenguar and Aussensseiter 9. Gx-31 Voltes 10. Gx-27 Gaiking Worst 10 (10 being the worst) 10. Xabungle (small, fragile) 9. King Joe (Why did they have to put him in this line?) 8. King Joe Black (they had to make 2 of him??) 7. Gx-05 (terrible, poorly executed. The Gx-05R was slightly better) 6. Gx-47 RED Energer Z (Why red??) 5. Gx-07i Iron Z (repaint) 4. Gx-07e Iron Z (repaint again??) 3. Reideen (could've used more diecast, lots more) 2. Shin Jeeg (floppy joints hurt this release) 1. Zambot 3 (legs could've been better) I never really had a problem with Walker Galliar, it felt solid for me, compared to the Xabungle. Gold

Seems like everyone hates King Joe because he "doesn't belong", I love the guy personally and thought he was a welcome addition to a line filled to the brim with Super Robots. I'd make a list of but my total count of SoC and Brave Gokin is only five^^.

I'm gonna have a separate list of the ones I actually own. I love combiners/transformers so you can see the pattern in my choices. Just my two cents of course. Everybody have their own preferences:
Favorites: 1. GX-31V Voltes V - I actually like both versions, but prefer the colors of the repaint (minus the "painted Popy stickers"). 2. GX-50 Combattler V - I prefer this over the first version coz of the paint/color and proportions. 3. GX-04S Grendizer - one of my favorite robot - with all the spacers to boot! 4. GX-43 Daimos - cool weapons, crappy transformation. 5. GX-01R - my favorite Mazinger Z. 6. GX-02R - my favorite Great Mazinger. 7. GX 23 Zambot 3 - leg issues aside. What can I say, I love combining robots... 8. GX 08 Aphrodite A and GX 12 Venus A (tie)- I'm just glad they did the female counterparts, and did a great job. 9. GX 09 Minerva X - same as above plus the colors and design is just classic. 10. GX 39 Baikanfu - I know nothing about the anime but I like the design, color, and nesting gimmick.
Least favorites - although I still love these toys:
1. GX 11 Dianan A - just can't get over the color combination and overall design. 2. GX 28 Xabungle - I don't know why I even bought this as I am not familiar with the anime. 3. GX 33 Leopoldon - not thrilled about this one either.... 4. GX 42 Jeeg - would have preferred the original, but the design is actually nice, but the joints are too unstable. 5. GX 49 Shin Mazinger - nice concept but the god scrander feels cheap. 6. GX 01 Mazinger Z - I didn't like the "assemble everything yourself" concept (same as GX-04). 7. GX 02 Great Mazinger - same as above plus I had a bad shoulder in mine so the arm can't stay up. 8. GX 03 Combattler V - plastic quality (compared to GX-50), pinchers on the battle tank, floppy feet connectors 9. GX 05 Daiku Maryu - love Daiku Maryu hated the Gaiking for its instability and PITA to assemble... 10. GX 01X Hangar - good concept but execution is just meh....
Some SOC's I like but do not own: 1. GX 46 D & A - I like the design and colors, but too expensive and looks way too complicated. 2. GX 13 Dancougar - I love the design and colors, but from what I hear, posability and joints are an issue. 3. GX 36 Ideon - I really dig the vehicle modes but the design of the robot is just OK. Too red. I still like it though. 4. GX 52 Shin Getter 1- on the list to buy eventually. 5. GX 51 Shin Getter Dragon - only thing I don't like is quality of some plastic pieces (i.e. crossed arms).
Likewise, SOC's that I do not like and has no desire to buy: 1. GX 35 Walker Gallia - don't care about the design 2. GX 48 Big-O - Big what? Maybe some like him, but ugly to me. 3. GX 44S New Tetsujin vs Black Ox- not crazy about the design, I like the older tetsutin design better. 4. GX 40 God Mars - don't care for the design but I know a lot of folks do. Too blocky for me. 5. GX 37 King Joe - not loving the design... 6. GX 34 Gunbuster - Tons of folks love this one, but the design and colors I really don't care for. Cool transformation though. 7. GX 38 Iron Gear - I guess, it's just me. The entire crew from this series just didn't tickle my fancy... 8. GX 14-17, 21-22 EVA series - why did they have to do so many versions? Not digging the design. 9. GX 08MA and all the Mazinger Angels - cool design but I prefer the original versions. 10. GX 32 Gold Lightan - My least favorite of them all. I know, cool transformation. But a lighter? Too blocky too.
