Yep, it's all about the Go Nagai Museum... ...the museum of all his awesome super-robots and anime characters. I've tried to visit it's website, to no avail. It would be a dream-come-true to actually MEET Go Nagai in person... ...at this point, then, the first thing I'd tell him is to make Bandai STOP puttin out so many re-versions whatever of Mazinger. Ok, yeah, continue reproducing the GX-01R, fine. But Another new Maz SOC?! Enuff iz Enuff already!
Back to this 'nother Mazinger... don't get me wrong, I love Maz to death. But, damnit I'm bein Maz'ed to death! I'm only speaking for myself, folks...
If any of y'all like this new Maz SOC, please go for it. DON'T let anyone's opinion (including mine) sway you either way about this new Maz SOC.
As for me, I'll pass. That's one too many more SOC Mazingers than I can keep up with, and I just barely started with ONE (the GX-01R).
On that note, if I wanna collect SOC Mazingers, this is totally throwing me off track and out of focus for what specific SOC Mazinger specimens I'd like to collect...
...At first, I thought I just wanted to collect Mazinger-Z robot figures, and Nothing else. Then I fell in love with just the GX-01R and finally got one. But then I realize I gotta add Great Mazinger (GX-02R) as well, because they're the two original Toei Mazingers (looking at it from the Toei Animation perspective). I also gotta add Mazinkaiser because he's originally himself in his own series in the Mazinger timeline. So, that set was to be my focus...
...but Nnnooooooo... ...now there are so many Mazinger robot types of SOCs from different anime series versions and mangas and mama's wardrobe, and from re-issues and re-paints and re-tardations whatever; they're derailling me from what I had initially wanted to achieve from this Bandai Mazinger SOC toyline.
Now I'm sooo con-fUUUsed about where I stand as a Mazinger collector.

ok...I like Mazinger Z and he will always be my favorite of all super robots, but this is to much even for me. i was expecting maybe Aphrodite A, Venus A or Boss Borot or even the Mazinger team. Heck, i was even expecting a SOC GX01 Mazinger model variation with the articulation of GX45.
but then again this is the manga color version but its just simply shin Mazinger painted in that version and not his manga form.

I've come to a understanding that re-paints are just necessary and in some cases justified. This isn't a regular release and it is being released in honor of Go Nagai and his museum which I have no problem with. If you actually think about it the cost of making SOC's is incredibly high, for the most part there is no interchangeability between parts so say the molds used for Gunbuster can only be used for Gunbuster and the costs can't amortized with different characters plus the molds themselves are expensive to make let alone design. I'm also guessing the profit margins on these things are super slim with Bandai using the profits from more "profitable" lines to fund this one. So like you guys I do get sick of seeing constant re-paints but if they can use the molds of Mazinger to make more profits (which I really don't think Bandai is making much on this one since it is Museum sale piece) to fund projects like Daitarn or Tobikage then I'm totally fine with it.
Plus there is the golden rule "if you don't like it, don't buy it".

My apologies for totally freaking out... ...I overlooked the fact that this particular new Maz SOC will just be a museum celeb release and not a regular release. I also failed to realize that these specimen molds are often used as templates to fund other SOC projects in that toyline. I do have Lots to learn in this hobby. zozo-Magengar I've come to a understanding that re-paints are just necessary and in some cases justified. I actually kinda like this version, even more so than the Atami night version. I don't mind it that much if it's a museum sale piece, or even a tamashii exclusive.
Can anybody translate what the page says? Looks like the first 100 gets some sort of exclusive bonus (something about a handshake too? Will Go Nagai be there?).

it is a nice color scheme, but really even thoug it is pleasant to the eye, it is too many mazingers now. Why not afrodai? or ghost fire c3 or vargas v5( it is almost the same mold. Bandai should launch the kikaiju figures and the mazinga gundam, that would really sell!! oh yes and by the way, should also pressure to continue shin mazinger.

I like it a lot. The color scheme is the same of the first part of the original Mazinger Z comic drawn by Nagai sensei in 1971 (or was it 1972?). To commemorate the first year of the Nagai museum, this recolor is the best! I really hope that the initial 500 pieces are for sale at the museum and there will be more.

It's an odd juxtaposition with the original color scheme but the modern sculpt. I'm not sure what I think.

as great as the character is, its about time they gave it a rest. there are so many other super robots out there that are worthy of being immortalized. Dai-Guard agrees! Hellz yeah! as much as I love Mazinger Z I want a SOC Dai-Guard! also God Gravion (along with sandmans black repaint) and Sol Gravion would be awsome too I'd want a GX-45 style Great Mazinger but when (if ever) the sequal to Shin Mazinger comes out thats a givin

Well considering this is a special figure honouring Go Nagai and his Museum it makes sense it would be a Mazinger sine it is his most famous creation and the Godfather (along with Tetsujin 28) that started this whole hobby.

That's true. Almost every celebratory cultural project related to super-robot anime started by Go Nagai would be sure to get inaugurated by Mazinger, from the cradle to the grave. He might as well inaugurate newly-elected officials when they're sworn into office. ;D
So many Mazingers, Now... I can't imagine the impact it would have if/when Go Nagai passes away, what then. (Goddess forbid).

When that day comes I hope he gets much more respect than Ken Ishikawa did, it was a real shame that Master Ishikawa passed and it was mostly ignored on toy-sites.

I hear ya. That dude's artwork Rocks. Too bad I hadn't gotten to see ALL of his works besides the artwork for the Getter Armageddon and Shin Maz series. ...Hmmmm... I wonder if that also explains the debut of this particular Shin Maz specimen. Of course, Ishikawa did some work on the Shin Maz series, didn't he? (Damn, my memory is TERRIBLE, I'm gettin senile at 44! LOL)I'm sure there'll be a special tribute or homage to him at the Go Nagai museum ceremony, like a gallery or display of sorts featuring many of his works. zozo-magengar When that day comes I hope he gets much more respect than Ken Ishikawa did, it was a real shame that Master Ishikawa passed and it was mostly ignored on toy-sites.

Well considering that the Getter Robo's were Ishikawa's baby he should be right up there with Nagai for respect and reverence for what he did for this hobby. But anyways back on topic.

The Shin Mazinger design was ALL Ishikawa's. Go Nagai had nothing to do with that one.
