Because,
unfortunately, there are some dumbassed
elements in the world who Think that They can do it Better.
I totally agree with your comment (I did read it thoroughly).
Voltron (and many other famous Japanese cartoon robots)
are almost Instantly recognizeable even by folks who have
only the slightest idea who these iconic cartoon characters
were back in the day. That first visual impression stays
in people's minds forever.
I was a sophmore in Highschool when the Voltron series
aired on tv... after years of watching shows like Mazinger-Z
I wasn't sure I'd like Voltron because of his body shapes;
but his colors and armor finally won me over.
His cartoon series had that visual WOW-factor impression
upon me and I grew to like it very much...
Even the lead pilot "Keith" had that
Koji Kabutoimpression upon me, because the first things I looked for
were the eyes-- the hairdo-- the eyebrows-- the mouth--
--the typical "red" or other hero colors pilot uniform--
--and the nose--- all the typical facial features of a young
Japanese hero anime character. The lead character in
a sentai or robot team almost Always wears Red with
combinations of White and some Blue; and the dominant
color was usually White with the other two colors as
"accents" in the uniform ornaments.
Perfect examples were Robotech, and Speed Racer.
(Exception: GetterRobo1's pilot wore that weird Green
suit with a blue scarf. Mazinger's Koji wore Red, Yellow,
and Dark red).
Anyway, back to the topic........
"Voltron, Defender Of The Universe" won me as a fan.
Compared to THAT original Voltron, you can bet I'll
be at theatres throwin rocks and bottles at the screen
for This overprocessed rendition of "Voltron". LOL
Someone from today's generation will watch this "Voltron"
movie, and that person will sooner or later stumble upon
(
Oh Yes, people Will look him up on the internet.)
the original character cartoon version, and Guess what
that person's gonna say:
"This Voltron I saw in the movie DOESN'T look like
the original Voltron robot I saw in the cartoon".
I'll bet 9 times out of 10 that four out of five kids will agree.
Call me insane, biased, or stupid for saying the following:
I strongly believe that the Western movie industry
(North America, and NATO countries) should not
make any renditions, remakes, revisions, improvisations,
whatever, of Japanese animes and movies.
Because they'll just ruin it with bad renditions as though
they're trying to make it off as their "Own Original" stuff
(Ie: when WEP bought the license to broadcast GoLion,
they butchered it and repackaged it as "Voltron" as
though WEP owned the robot character!)
LEAVE THE JAPANESE ANIME, MANGAS, AND MOVIES
TO THE JAPANESE. DON'T FK WITH IT!
JAPAN IS THE SOLE ORIGINAL MASTERS OF THIS ART
AND ENTERTAINMENT GENRE. DON'T FK WITH IT!
STICK TO YOUR RAMBOS AND TERMINATORS AND
DISNEY CRAP, AND
LEAVE THE JAPANESE SHOWS A L O N E !!!;D I'm dead-serious, folks.
