I actually like some of the TF Movie designs, but I can not say I like this.

I've seen it posted about in other forums, too. Personally, I sincerely HOPE this is just a concept art, and not the final character design for the movie. It stinks to me like "Godzilla" (the US pet gnewt version) + "Transformers ripoff" + Titan AE = SH*T.
(I actually haven't seen TitanAE, but their CG characters look the same as in those dreadful CG US Army commercials)
Back on topic....... for as long as this "Voltron" was first rumored, I was expecting a faithful rendition of the Golion robot character (aka Voltron, the lion robot version); and I had hoped this would break the ice for live-action renditions of, say, "Mazinger-Z" and many other super-robots. (the Gaiking movie looks almost promising, but I don't wanna get into That discussion)
...I saw this art concept of this "Voltron" movie, and I immediately lost my apetite, felt let-down as a Voltron fan (moreso as a Golion fan). I can't imagine what the producers were thinking when they came up with this concept art. I'm gonna Puke.
PS: it also looks like an HR Geiger art ripoff.

good god! WHY CANT THEY JUST LEAVE SOME STUFF ALONE!. i understand they want to give him some modernization, but this is not. this is all bayformers all over it (even though i like the bayformers but not for Voltron.)
It reminds me of the Ninja Megazord from the first Power Ranger movie

I had the following reactions during my lunch break when this popped up in my news feeds... in the following order: 1) oh, when did Michael Bay get involved? 2) New York? Oh brother... if they can't even get concept art set on the right planet... Yo magengar, TitanAE's designs weren't terrible... but that movie had other serious plot problems so let's not even go there.

hahhaa I have the same sentiments as everyone else. It's nicely rendered... BUT!!!!!!!! respect the original content! I would love to have the Voltron treatment respected like the new Startrek movies. Familiar but fresh.

I wasn't tryin to bag on TitanAE; I apologize if I appeared that way in my previous post. It was the first thing that came to my mind, if This eh-hm--> "Voltron"<-- flick were to be an actual CG. As for that city backdrop, at first glance I thought it was the downtown L.A. business district... ...that building on the right of the robeast looks like 633 West 5th St. downtown L.A., that building always gets shot in movies. But then we have the Statue Of Liberty in the background of that other concept picture. In the Voltron series, the planet was named Aeros (or Arus, or something like that). I guess I'll just hold off and wait for any further developments about this movie; but I do hope them folks would stick to the original character design instead of this lion-armed homeopathic candle carved statue so-called-"voltron" thing. I gotta run. zozo-Magengar I had the following reactions during my lunch break when this popped up in my news feeds... in the following order: 1) oh, when did Michael Bay get involved? 2) New York? I wish i could be as calm as you guys, I'm literally disturbed that this design could even be taken into consideration.. I am speechless at how horribly stupid this rendering is. Even in fictionland, why would anyone design something so complicated? I hope the robeast grabs onto one of the lions ribs and breaks it apart...ribs....sheesh
I hope Japan makes a faithful to the original movie where the original kicks this this versions' ass ala Godzilla vs US Godzilla in Final wars.
So far it looks like robotic vomit and red lion looks like a skinned cat.
Theres a Voltron comic I got laying around that has a GREAT illustration of what I think he should look like. I gotta find it

When I was growing up, I could easily draw a voltron, mazinger or voltes from memory. Now with this, good luck.
Simply put, this NeoVoltron is too hard to draw - the design is too busy, probably with the gears and axles showing. Lots of plating and parts hanging... Is this really a practical design for a robot? simple lines are better.
In as much as I understand that we have to update the series. A complicated design does not work well in terms of being appreciated by a young kid. It would probably be good in the short run, but in terms of longevity and appreciation, it won't be as loved as the original one.

again hollywood proves me right. anybody who expects a movie studio to get things right must have been asleep for the last 25 years. this is the same treatment that all our favorites will get. that is why i cannot understand anyone getting excited on news of movies being made.
this design is terrible, the Tf designs were terrible. spawn was terrible. godzilla was terrible. astroboy was terrible. dragonball z was terrible. every cartoon made into a live action movie has been terrible. and every one they make from this point on will be terrible. i am sure gatchaman will be terrible as well. if macross gets made into a movie it will no doubt be terrible.

Soooo, what's supposed to be happening in those pictures? Voltron combining? Red Lion releasing itself? Voltron's Red Lion arm being cut off? I frankly don't get it...

Sorry, all. I just can't be silent any longer. Know what they should call this movie?? It should be called Dragon Ball Evolution part 2: The Hackneyed Premise! And clearly, if Bay is involved in the project, then the designs are way off. I believe Voltie is missing the "ornaments"! This is a pure slight to the all the fans. Seriously though, and I know I'm totally prejudging here, but if Bay is in any way involved, I will probably pass this up. And it's widely apparent that he's concerned more with cash than any loyalty to source material. So far, Bay + current concept designs = epic fail! For me at least Again, my apologies everyone.

if they're going this far with new york for every anime.. why not combine Voltron and Akira movies together? (thats me being sarcastic).
sadly I'd hate to say it... they make these movies for the masses, and not the fans.

I frankly don't get it... }\ I think the red lion is using the statue of liberty as scratching post... I thought one of the member is involved in the design for the movie? Maybe he can give a better explanation. EDIT: Sorry, the member I'm making reference to is apparently involved in the new voltron series, and not this apparent cr@p. My bad.

Looks like Voltron has been transformer-ized
This design approach kind of worked for me in Transformers but I'm just not sure how I feel about it in Voltron.
Having said this, I know I want the cartoon design version "re-adjusted" a bit for the live action, as I'm quite sure it won't work as a live action....how?.... I'm just not sure

Let's not get out the pitchforks yet, if you actually read the article it says this is just early concept art, hell they haven't even confirmed the writers yet plus this art was "obtained" by another site. If the writers haven't been confirmed then the story hasn't been written, a director hasn't been chosen, the actors haven't been cast, and the production can't be started let alone the cgi. It honestly looks like an artists just created a couple pics just for the hell of it just to see what a cgi Voltron would roughly look like.
