Yes it was way too soon to release ANOTHER Yamato. I like this one, but I do not have the space for 3, nor the money.

The only thing I don't like about the GX-57 is that the shading is a bit crap on it - viewed from a certain angle, it just looks like it has these tiger stripes on it.
If you already own it tho, the only reason you should get the new one is only if you're a HUGE fan of the 2199 version, or Yamato in general - although I like to think I am, I'm just not seeing any reason to get this new version. I honestly like the shape of the GX-57 more.

Excellent review odeean. 3 similar ships in the SOC line is indeed a bit excessive.

More like two - Andromeda at least is an entirely different ship. As a big fan of the original series, I just had to have Andromeda shortly after I got my GX-57. And I'm totally gonna dish out for that Arcadia too...
But, I would love to have a bigger version of Yamato that's actually a TOY, too. You know, something not-fragile that you can just pick up and wave around while making wooshing sounds.

I honestly like the shape of the GX-57 more. As a counterpoint, I prefer this new version. Now, I'm a pretty big fan of the Yamato anime and while 2199 is an excellent reboot, I still like the original series a tad more. But, I skipped out on GX-57 because I thought the shape was not good. Though I will say that GX-57 is pretty accurate to how the Yamato looked in the original series. However, somehow over the years, my aesthetic taste to how the Yamato should look like, favored a much narrower looking bow. So when Bandai in 2010 released the 1/500 kit, I thought they truly nailed the look. Little did I know that its design was based on the what would be the 2199 Yamato. Before GX-64 was announced, I did wonder at times whether I had made a huge mistake in not buying GX-57 back in 2010 and opting instead to one day build the 1/500 kit. When GX-64 was announced I knew I had to get one. I paid full price at HLJ and I don't regret it one bit. If I had already had GX-57, I'd still buy GX-64. However, I can understand folks who already have GX-57 of not really being interested in buying GX-64.

I prefer the GX64 version as well because of the stand and the detail for the rotary launcher. Is JPY 18k the lowest price out there?

Thanks for the very fair, very thorough and to the point review. I'm sure I and many bros will benefit from this.

Finally got my GX-64 from Amazon. Maybe I'll have some time to do some comparisons.

That would be great. I don't think I've even seen anyone comparing the SoC with the SoP.

I prefer the GX64 version as well because of the stand and the detail for the rotary launcher. Is JPY 18k the lowest price out there? I got lucky and recently scored one brand new at 17000yen at Mandarake. But they have some that are around 18000yen still. Yahoo Japan auctions have similar pricing (but middleman fee will raise the cost). So unless you come across another Amazon U.S. sale at $200 or below (remember Amazon now charge tax on quite a number of States, even if you get free shipping), a 18000yen purchase from Mandarake is not a bad deal. Shipping costed me 4700yen for EMS (with free insurance). After pondering for quite a while, and owning just the Yamato Mechanical File version, I decided to step up and get the GX-64 (since everyone loved the show and praised the improvements on GX-57) and ordered myself some 2199 blu-rays. Hopefully it will be a worthy spending.

You're right, about the size... Analizer figure would have to be really small to fit in scale with that super-sized high-end Yamato model.
