Saw the trailer yesterday. Um, wow...
Wasn't the line from Tropic Thunder to never go full-retard? I think Bay just did.

Not a single toy in those links is buy able for me. I am surprised about how horrid and cheesy drift looks on the box art. It's one thing to have some samurai influenced elements but this is 80s samurai robot cheese from hell. I guess I should expect some bad designs as even in the other films there were at least a couple bad designs.

I expected the one press transformers to be, but a $80 Grimlock with those hollow legs? Eww....
I think I'll just buy FWI-3 Jet Power Upgrade for ROTF prime and call it a day for Transformers Movie figures.

Pics from the even so far. Leader Grimlock looks better than leader Prime, still not my bag. There could be some promise in some of the other lines listed, but not much in what has been shown so far. I want to see what this Cabover G1 colored optimus will look like. Be warned, there are some spoilers in the pics.I think Lockdown will be a cool robot in the movie, but no proper toy yet. EDIT: They keep adding pics so stay tuned for any good stuff. www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/toy-fair-38/toy-fair-2014-transformers-from-hasbro-event-179295/

Hound Looks ok. Maybe some custom potential there. I think Evasion mode Optimus might be good for a custom. Replace his head with something a little more classic. Even Laser Prime's head if the size is close. The triceratops has a cool bot mode, even though the head is a little funky.
I think many of the designs are very cliche. Hound having the beard, he looks like many Ranger, Navy seal people I had seen photos of to stereotype them. The samurai character also being another as well as the bot with a trench coat and goggle. It feels as the films go on, the characters resemble people more so than cybertronians.

Thanks for sharing the links, Josh. Leader Class Grimlock looks significantly better than the chomp and stomp Grimlock (he's huge!), but it's still lanky and turns into a skinny t-rex!. I hope this is the "First Edition" Version, and not the "real" leader class Grimlock. In my opinion, the real stars were Leader Jetfire (the underside is really clean, even though he has 2 cockpits and the back seems to be full of kibble), voyager roadbuster and voyager skybite. These three I'd really like to get. Purple triceratops? I think I'll wait for Fanstoys' Slag. BTW, there seems to be a re-release of MP Grimlock for US Market under the new MP box. Edit: Surprisingly, the Chomp N' Stomp Grimlock seem to have the best robot and dino mode proportions compared to the Leader or Voyager class Grimlocks. The leader and voyager classes Grimlock turns into really, really slim t-rexes

MP Grimlock is the only thing that interest me on the pack.....black bumblebee look so horrible in alt mode...Skyfire looks decent but wish they could done better....ok theyre trying too hard on Optimus Primes design....a G1 look in truck mode but a robo movie in alt mode.... what the bloody hell are those toy designers smoking???

I dig some of the classics generations stuff, but I was only mentioning movie stuff in this thread. The only thing I think is super interesting about that Jetfire was the mention of using diecast in it.

my thoughts on them in each class.
-AoE Voyager Class-
- Grimlock: TBH with you, i find the voyager Grimlock far more nicer than the leader. I mean, not only it does look better in proportions from his dino and robot form but as well it doesn't look so hollow like the leader version, but most importantly it will also look nice with the rest of the Dinobots since there only in deluxe size so generally speaking the voyager is the better choice than the leader. the only thing i could say i want to see it fix is the lower legs and feet to make it a bit bulkier, but other than that he looks pretty much great. - Optimus Prime: not crazy about it, is making a homage of the G1 in vehicle form with the robot design from the earlier baymovies. I wish they would just made the G1 version base from the Mp-10 in a voyager scale than this because tbh he doesn't look right. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate they where trying to make a homage to the G1, but i prefer to have the real deal than this. Would prefer if the legs and feet would been design better and the head had a faceplate. - Galvatron: im sorry but he just looks looks terrible and boring, its really disappointing and for the looks of it the majority of his vehicle mode is on his back so looks to me to be a a shellformer. - Hound: looks ok, i like the beard they gave him, but the arms are bad and it doesn't really flow with the design that he sports. i wish the lower legs where a bit more bulkier, other than that i like the look.
-AoE Deluxe Class-
- Scorn: i love his dino mode, it looks really nice and well proportionate. in robot mode however i have to say i don't like the leg designs and the head (specially the head that looks so generic to me and doesn't fit with his design overall). is not bad but not great either, i would say ok, but for the most part the Dino mode is the better looking aspect. - Strafe: looks pretty good, i like how he looks in robot and dino mode. if i could criticize something about it it would be his legs, they look to long for me, but other than that it looks good. - Slash: i think his ok in dino mode but it leaves more to be desire really. in robot mode i have a big problem with his design and is those spikes in his legs that for the looks of it would literally interrupt his own leg articulation and the head again like with scorn it looks generic. i think this might be the weaker of the dinobots set tbh. - Slug: he looks pretty good, i like some of his elements design but for the looks of it he might be less articulated than the previews dinobots. In robot however, he looks really nice and well proportionate, the only issue i have with it is his sporting the generic head design again (and a more simple design at that) which doesn't fit to his overall robot look.
Note on the deluxe dinobots: for the looks of it, all of them are sporting the same aspect head design been kinda generic, however from all 4 dinobots, Strafe heads design looks better to his design overall than the rest of the group.
- Drift: i like his vehicle mode and robot mode, however i not sure about his face. I know that his design is base of a samurai but i feel that the face is to much, not only that but you also have it painted gold wile the majority of his body is blue. perhaps if part of the body had some gold in it to reduce the awkwardness to it and ethe face was not a human face but more cybertronian look then i would be ok.
-AoE Leader Class-
- Optimus Prime: vehicle mode looks pretty good, robot mode not so much. I mean it pretty much looks like the FE version but they made him a smaller backpack, bigger head and a really weird skinny arm design but still his just a shellformer than anything. The should just brought back the RotF leader version and retouch it up to match the look. - Grimlock: dino mode looks bad, im no liking that his body looks ridiculously longer than the tail(it looks twice longer than the tail, wtf?). robot mode is ok but im not liking his gorrilla arm aspect of it as well the legs looking kinda small. in fact, i think the voyager version is a much nicer looking than the leader overall.
-Conclusion-
Out of all the figures from the AoE line, only Voyagers Grimlock and Voyager Hound as well the deluxe figures Drift, Strafe, Slug and Scorn are the best looking ones. Voyager Optimus Prime and leader Grimlock would be my 2nd group, Optimus looks ok but not that much, it has potential but it needs a bit more of improvement to reach it, while Leader Grimlock in dino and robot modes look ok but the Voyager looks far better in both regards, if the leader Grimlok didn't had that ridiculous long body in his dino mode but with a longer tail as well not having the small legs and long arms in his robot mode it would have been a better leader overall, the only thing holding him here is his size and not by much. Deluxe Slash i have to say is the weakest of the deluxe figures while Leader Optimus Prime and Voyager Galvatron are the most terrible looking ones in this line, both feel lazy and pointless, i recommend skipping them.

I like the Leader Class Grimlock in robot mode and would consider getting it and displaying it as something else.

The 1st edition Primes recently popped in the local TRUs & SM stores here in Manila. Initial thoughts on the toy? The packaging alone makes it look cheap and the overall aesthetic (design + chrome and plastic material) of the figure makes it similar to the battery-operated cheap robot toys. For Php 3990 / USD 89.61, this one might be for Prime collectors only.
