So, those 3 diecast guns (the overseas bonus)... In which «bonus term» should they make us happy? I think so....so is it working? Are you happy? LOL! OK, so I should hold the 3 die-cast guns and just say "I am happy!" I guess I am getting along with it! First time transformation was kinda of "d'oh!" I guess it needed a bit of a shiny tone on the grey limps and of course translucent cockpits would have been better (a remark that I actually sent to Sentinel yesterday).

It is a nice looking figure, but not a $300+ figure.

That is how it appears on the anime. Not to pick on Dancougar as he has some merit, but probably why I dont like it,or any SRs after 1984 really with exception of later Getters and Mazinkaiser {powered up classics}and a very few others such as Baikanfu. They all approach looking like transformers,(especially this guy who is Starscreams SR cousin),or have bland color palettes and overly complicated lines. The SRs I like all are from an era that rubbed off on them, loud colors, disco themed openings,STYLE.That era is gone sadly so we end up with movie transformers, one big mess of non stylistic, bland looking, inside out swiss watches of gears and whatever bolted on parts, to beef up a non human entity. Its brash, garrish and what Id expect from designers who sadly have nothing to draw upon in this homogenized era of GREY. You would almost never see a SR that had black as part of its color scheme pre 84,with the exception of the LAST real classic SR Bismarck, something changed beginning of 1985,this is why I consider the classic era to end with 84.Sorry back to teh thread just got carried away.

No problems with the non-transforming head then, I take?

That's the point where the second generation of Mecha Designers came out of school and started working. Having been heavily influenced by Mobile Suit Gundam. Much like the earlier one generally in some way reflected Go Naggai's influence these later heavily reflected Shoji Kawamori's. And we saw the evolution from Super Robots to "Real Robots". Personally while I find the late 80's robots overly boxy and look alike. I find them a thousand times better than the weird gaunt and lanky designs that all tried to mimic Evangelion in the 90's, and their eventual evolution into the incomprehensible spikes messes that we get today.

I also would agree that a lot of the 80's real robots are rather dull and uninspiring. Sure, they're supposed to be military mecha and thus utilitarian rather than pretty, but I can at least appreciate utilitarianism, but many of them fail at even that much. I think out of all the 80's real robots, Scopedogs are pretty much the only ones I really like.
Compared to all the other ones though, I definitely like the way Dancougar looks. Then again, I also like Transformers, so make of that what you will.

Never like how they make mechs of today looking like humanoids or trying to make them monster-like perhaps trying to look them wicked. One example is what Sentinel did with Gaiking. lol Hes more like another incarnation of Spawn from hell than a robot. Unless he will actually get a comic crossover with Spawn himself. Regarding real robots.. i love real robots too. Specially the 80's to 90's era. (Macross yeah!)

Well at least I agree with you on one thing; I don't like the post-90's Evangelion-inspired mecha and it's kin either. In fact, I haven't even bothered watching any of them except for Gurren Lagaan which only inspired me to realize how much it was riffing on Getter Robo, and Gundam 00 which I absolutely loathed, loathed.
I'm not including any of the spinoffs and sequels that I watched that are more heavily associated with the product that they're based on, like Shin Mazinger or Pailsen Files, neither of which sought to make radical changes to the original mecha designs anyway.

yes.. same here. main reason why i extended my collection list to 90s below.. to cover the golden years of real robots like macross, gundam UC series, xabungle, votoms, govarian, etc. (i grew up with macross dyrl hehe.. a fan eversince) i only choose the ones i like when it come 90's and beyond. I even skipped the 90s brave series except Gaogaigar. recent one's i bother watching are mostly modern remakes of old robot series of the 70s and 80s or some that stir up my interest such as Rahxephon, king gainer, Godannar, aquarion, GL, Big 0, Code geass, SRWOG, etc..
oops dammit.. i forgot Transformers.. but thats another story or line... or shelf?... hehehe

Transformers benefited a lot from being limited by the toy designs and what their capabilities were. By having to keep the animation designs at least recognizable to the toys it forced elements of the cars etc to the forefront and made it so they couldn't make completely blocky real robots.
Don't get me wrong. There are some great examples of RR done well. All rhe designs from Patlabor are personal favorites. And nothing beats classic Macross. But so much of the rest starts to run together. It saddens me when I look back at Gundam and realize that the end of the day the absurd "Dragonball'ish" G Gundam probably has the most interesting designs, with its insane racist and ethnic caricature Mecha. I mean who doesn't like wooden windmill robots?
I hate the more modern Hideo Kojima type "military" Mecha that has so infested modern stuff. Metal Gears. Gasaraki. Titanfall, etc. bleah! It all looks the same and you can't tell which way is the front or back. It lacks the grace, style and sensuality of the classic Super Robots.
As far as Dancouga? Yeah he's there... Just never really excited me. Looks like the illegitimate love child of the RX78 Gundam and Starscream.

I'm not a fan of 80s so called 'real robots' either, but.. robots these days.. I don't know maybe it's just me, but it pains me by just looking at them.. What's with the color scheme? I think I'm going to go blind lol. When compared to these, I can appreciate the beauty of 80s robots all day long And yet still not as horribly and offensively colored as Transformers G2

"that" obviously is a long ways from the 80's real robots that i know... it kinda came out straight from sum1s nightmare.. lol And yet still not as horribly and offensively colored as Transformers G2 G2 was never been an anime but kiddie inspired neon recolored versions G1 toys. (thank god it stayed that way) what they had as follow-up was the Masterforce series instead.. which featured new designs.

That's a quite a bit off-track since Masterforce was just repaints of the '88 toys in 1988 while G2 came around in 1994 - when ALL the western toys looked like they were the victims of an explosion at a neon factory. No, no problem...but, because thanks to the early warning I read here, so, I am very careful when detaching it from the neck. Mind posting close-ups of it actually plugged in? Specifically in the rear where I assume the neck joint is visible.

Some but not entirely.. "Masterforce was a Japanese Anime, as writer Masumi Kaneda's part to make Masterforce a "fresh start" as a mecha story, introducing an entirely new cast of characters from scratch, rather than using any of the previous ones." God Ginrai or what u call Power Master Optimus Prime never appeared in G1, as well as Overlord, Dreadwing/Blackwing, Road ceasar and countless others.. in fact i can only think of Black Zarak and King Poseidon as recolors of Scorponok and Piranacon that were reintroduced as villains.
