My first impression was that it's really cool despite its appearance. I have very fond memories of three of the five main members from my childhood, and I didn't even grow up in Japan. This will sell better than you'd think and will draw in many new fans to chogokins.

...I know, I know. I'd love something doraemon or robocon myself... Wow...I know I said I what I said, but even with doraemon included on this one, it's a big no for me. That paintbrush weapon is killer though!!!! And...why is Perman featured? He is another character I love, but he is HUMAN. Are we to just assume that it's actually copy robot so that he can justify the transformation? In Asia, I think this will actually sell very well because of doraemon and his sister being included in this set.

Here's a video promoting the Chogokin and it shows how much this means to the Japanese folks and how confident Bandai is with this Chogokin: tendoutoys.blogspot.hk/2014/06/bandai-chogokin-super-gattai-sf-robot.htmlThis year will mark the 40th Anniversary for Chogokin and 80th Anniversary for the manga author Fujiko F. Fujio as well as his works. The authors work(s) has touched a lot of Japanese folks whether old or next gen, so there is some value with this 'weird' combination mecha.... The Micky & Friends one had a better looking combination IMO though.

This will make sense for the Japanese and probably not for outsiders like us who didn't grow up in Japan and will throw the usual you suck Bandai why didn't you make so and so. I think its a nice reminder that no matter how much we love SR's its fundamentally true that we are outsiders looking in on a Japanese hobby and cherry picking what we like and makes sense to us. We almost never get to see or experience the whole spectrum of this hobby and culture we only get or pick bits and pieces.

I got mixed feelings about this, granted I will still buy it because i loved their shows in the 80s.
I think these are more in line or as an excuse for guys to collect "girly" characters, as most of these are seen more in place as dolls than chogokin.

I say this as someone that really liked the design of chogokin king mickey, I don't really care for this chogokin's combined form. It might be better in person but if I were to ever get it (which wont be for a long time since I've got some many other pieces to pick up first) I would only really display it uncombined or next to king mickey.

I like Disney Combiner but I didn't get it because their too complicate Mickey & Minnie make it look fragile and can't move shoulder joint.
I prefer Doraemon than Mickey mouse but this Combiner look too bad for me. God Keron (Keroro robo) look much better than this.

Neat...likely will go for discount eventually? I know the Mickey-Mouse gattai set sold for less after initial sales.

What an abomination! (But then again, I hated the Mickey one too.) The whole aesthetics of it are terrible. The proportions seem off. Just a total swing and a miss by Bandai. Does anyone know how well the Mickey one even sold? I see a stack of them at my local comic shop just rotting away on the shelves.

Yes, the Parman looks especially cool. If it has a ton of diecast, that would rock. But even if that was sold separately, it just does not fit my collecting habit, so I would pass regardless.
OMG - I just finally watched that video above. I thought that whole hideous red thing was the head. I just realized the head is the tiny disproportionate thing BELOW the red "hat". Wow, that is even more hideous. Is that an ode to the shaman character from Beetlejuice?
Also, I think that there is a whole marketing problem with this type of toy too. They are targeting the robot collectors, but really, you have to like these much more youthful cartoony characters to buy this. Super robots from peoples' youth still have a draw because of the Sci-Fi aspect of it. Robots are cool, and futuristic. But I would not go out and buy a gattai version of Mr. Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, or the Brady Bunch, who many grew up watching as wee little kids. Just because it was in cartoon form does not make it a good topic for this type of product. Just my two cents.
