I spent the weekend packing up a ton of toys, and I discovered a lot of my modern toys with "bonding/melting" damage. Lots of parts were impacting the paint underneath. An obvious one that I should have anticipated was the Aoshima Black Getter. The rubber cape messed up the figure underneath. But others were not so obvious. Plastic parts, such as Getter Robo capes, also messed up the paint underneath.
Other toys, such as the Bandai Aura Battler (SIC?) figures fell apart.
I should have just left everything where it was, but I am trying to reorganize and display boxed stuff to reduce the quantity of stuff taking up space in my house.
I would strongly advise people to check their stuff. Probably not much can be done about it if you want to display your toys. But be warned!

Whoah that's scary. I think most of the culprit parts are made out of pvc.

I take everything out once in a while to inspect and move things around. Got to keep them active or they like to get too accustomed to sitting.
I have found that as far as plastics go, they like to shrink with age and that accelerates the potential for tight/frozen/shattered areas or brittleness to develop.
And yes, those modern aura battler figures are notorious for getting either sticky and gummy, having joints so sloppy that they can't stand or hold poses, or just breaking. I think they are from the "in action" line.

Out of curiosity, where are you storing your boxed toys?
Is the place usually cold and dry?

i wish theyd stop using pvc...
Lego is indestructable and they are every bit as good and prob far better then most plastic Bandai and others use. i do know its patented formula but still... nylons are other good alternative too then? and yes i also know im comparing soft plastic and hard plastic, but with current toy engineering theres no reason for using pvc other then saving few coins.

That's exactly why they are using pvc since it's cheap and easy to mold. I forgot how much you hate pvc lol

Out of curiosity, where are you storing your boxed toys? Is the place usually cold and dry? These were not boxed. They were assembled and on display in an air-conditioned dark room (walk-in closet). That is why parts were touching. I will dig some out and provide some photos for reference.

I'll chime in. The F'ing Bandai Chogokin Kamen Riders with the diecast armour GD line. I've had 4 of them have their feet just fall off. There's a diecast peg that is the ankle and it just seems to seperate from itself, just breaks in half all on its own. Not even talking about putting pressure or twisting. Black RX and Ryuki I literally picked them up by the head and one foot fell right the F off! I've had this happen with Ryuki, Black RX, Alternative and Drake. I'll post a picture later as this just happened with Black RX yesterday. It's an easy fix but still what the hell?! Also as others have mentioned the Aoshima Ankoku recent reissue sure enough the hands were beginning to chew into the sword handle and the scabbard that was in his other hand.

All my SOC's are in their boxes in a closet in their original packaging with the little plastic bags for each little piece. Last time I checked everything was ok and they still look brand new except for Ideon since the shoulder rivets looked like they cracked the plastic. Thanks for the heads up though Kingboy D.

I try to keep my stash in dry places like cupboards and display cases. however, living in a high humidity place like my country, even boxes kept in cupboard can get moldy, and unwrapped toy boxes might degenerate (surface turns rough). y SOC voltes v GX-31v fists already started getting sticky, after leaving on display for several years.

Oh man... that is sad to hear. Photos and a shortlist of which figures got hit would be a big help. Please keep us posted KingboyD .

I'll try to do that, but the problem is that they are all packed away in their boxes and in tubs now, so I have to dig them all back out and find which parts were impacted. I should have done it as I was encountering the problems (that would have been smart - DUH!), but I did not expect to keep encountering damage after damage. I thought it would be an isolated thing. I will try to get to it over the weekend.

Mhm yep, the best thing to do would be, by making a list of the toys affected, exactly finding the cause of the problem. Like, which material(s) and in which conditions (temperature/humidity). So that other members could prevent similar issues from happening

Mmmh good to know. I allready wraped all my opened socs with plastic to avoid styro contact. But wise solution should be to wrap in bubble pack only, trash the styro and store with other socs in a large plastic case. Then boxes will be folded...
