Oh My Lord!! I am so happy right now...I am teary eyed! I am probably one of the die hard Voltes V fan in here, I can not wait for this beauty to be on my shelf.
This definitely looks more anime correct. Good to see that the cockpit of Voltes Crewxer "opens up" just like in the Godaikin version. As well as it having just two exhaust jet engines as opppose to 4. I can't wait to see Voltes Frigate with its belt buckle opening up-and taking off the whip. ;D That would be awesome.
I think that this would be better than Combattler V- I hope so.
How did you know that this is just going to be a bit taller than Combattler V?

lawlacan- I read Japanese, (found this pic linked from a Japanese forum) and it says in the picture that it will be approximately the same size as Combattler. It makes reference to Combattler being 57 meters high and Voltes being 60 (I thought Voltes was 58? *shrugs*).

Dengeki Hobby. It's a Japanese magazine but you can get it imported through some stores. I don't have the magazine though- I was reading a Japanese forum and someone that posts there had gotten next month's issue and uploaded a zip with the pics of Voltes and Xabungle. It looks like Voltes will be gx-30. The price and release date have yet to be determined.

Just some random thoughts here: I wonder how far ahead Bandai plans when they consider new candidates for the SOC treatment. And I'd love to know if the pettitions to Bandai, and the constant BBS chatter about a new Voltes affected the release date or even the decision to make the thing.
I can't imagine that a company as savvy as Bandai does not give some time to perusing the web sites that have sprung up over the enthusism for their products. In any case, if our (and by "our" I mean all of the on-line communities of toy geeks) constant clamor for Voltes has affected their decision, I'd like to see some acknowledgement of it. JWM

JWM When pigs fly I suppose.... j/k ;D Seriously though, if that petition that we signed some years back (I believe it was from a fellow Flip named JohnParas) was a factor, then it's a good sign that Bandai, at the very least (and after a very long wait) has considered Voltes as a SOC, even if his older bro is more popular in Japan. I guess they couldn't ignore his popularity with the international market. ;D Now... everyone start chanting DANGUARD ACE! DANGUARD ACE! DANGUARD ACE! DANGUARD ACE!....

I think Bandai knows which robot's the buyers really want (Voltes, Daimos, Reideen, ect) but I think they don't want to produce all the favorites and then be left with second stringers. I think what their doing is just trying to make sure that the line is around for along time and mixing it up to keep the line fresh.
But to have Gaiking and Voltes come out in the same year (sorta, depending on when Voltes comes out) is a trend I hope they continue.

JWM My Feeking on this, is that Bandai is trying to spread out the fan favorites... so they can keep the SOC alive... that way they may nab some new interest in other figures while their favorites are being planned. I know for me I'm a hardcore fan of the early generation of Super robots. But I gotta say... Dancougar deffinitely gets me the itch... and Xabungle has gotten more then my curiosity..... but I can hold out for Gaiking.. and reissue Grendizer ***edit*** Ooops didn't see Chens post.. but yeah I totally agree with him. I mean Bandai knows its got a good thing going on here... if you can stretch it out a little more.. then why not.

It all depends on the figures, if it's like the Eva's or Maz' Angels they come out basically once a month with some indivdual figures thrown in (6-7 total). But if the figures are unique they may come out once every three-four months ie. Gaiking comes out in May but Xabungle comes out in Sept. while I'm betting Black OX will be out a month later with Voltes coming out I'm betting, in time for Christmas or a little after.

Guys,
I agree with most of you. A large company such as Bandai would easily have access to market data that will show trends of what popular robot is being released. It is as easy as watching the toy trends out of eBay. It would be pure naivete to think that Bandai has not been collecting trend data that is so obvious to us.
With this in mind I would like to interject and elaborate on something that Chen and Kid has mentioned. It is very Japanese to hold your best ____ for last. Actually, not just Japanese per se, but more like human.
For instance, the Tenkoken is by far the most powerful weapon at Voltes V's accesible arsenal. However, we watch as he wastes his time with bazooka, tops and non-volted in weapons. They experience pain through the process...(Aside from the obvious dramatic formulae involved, we will deal with that later.)
Since pain is not one of feelings we as humans look forward to (sadists excluded)...instead of arriving at the scene non-volted in why not arrive after "LET'S VOLT IN!", sword drawn. Voila finished.
Ok. Boring to suspense, it will be amzing if Voltes V lasts 5 episodes. The human element requires the drama. I guess because although our lives are all pretty much predictable (we are born, we will eat, sleep, excrete, reproduce and die.) we like to pretend that these are all events that come as a surprise and /or meaningful.
So with all that said I would say Bandai is feeding the human element by keeping us all guessing and on the meantime between our "goals" we buy many of what they release in the interim.
However, now that as someone mentioned the reason to live has now expired, it may slow down sales of post releases, but there are always the thought "I have Voltes V and Daimos, Raideen, Danguard Ace, etc...
;D ;D ;D
