Hey guys... Do you know of any women who collect SOC's. I haven't come across one. Are any of the board members women? It's not a surprise that this is such a guy thing. But who knows, women might dig 'em as well...

Its a guy thing because most women view it as a waste of money.

Nope. There's a lot of girls that collect Zoids though. There's another reason to have a Zoids forum. Maybe we can use Zoids as a tactic to get girls into SOCs and other robots.

My wife likes them but the collection is mine.
I repeat; THE SOC ARE MINE!
Hey, the applejuice smells like DRANO.

Maybe they'll issue S.O.B. (soul of Barbie) someday. Then the girls will just be lining up to join the S.O.B. group. Robot Japan will become an on-line singles bar. JWM

All goofing aside- I'd add this observation: Men collect. Women gather. The women that I have known who collect tend to do so by theme: owls, cats, dragons, fairies, or whatever. Their collections tend to have many different kinds of things that share a common theme. They may collect a specific line of figures but the collection on the whole will consist of statues, salt shakers, coffee mugs, wall plaques etc. Men tend to be more specific. My collection consists almost soley of die-cast Japanese robots. I don't have Iron giant, Robby, C3PO, Terminator, etc.. I don't have a robot-themed coffee mug. (not that I don't want one). But I think that's probably the general trend on the board here. Men tend to collect narrow in theme and deep in focus. women collect broad by theme, but with less depth on particulars. I know- I just threw out a broad-brushed generalization. (Not to mention a dreadful pun. ) JWM

Now that I think of it, I'll bet girls are willing to collect Zoids because they are based upon animals (dragons and dinosaurs included). So maybe that means Zoids are cute in some weird way? Lol. It also makes me realize that I know lots of girls that read anime, but very few that read western comic books, so there's got to be some aesthetic thing in there too.

Also SOC are kinda small. The average woman needs something larger than 5 or 6 inches. If you meet a woman that likes small toys hang on to her.

She likes to collect anime themed 'anything' from trinkets like keychains, to plushies, and more recently statues! She's currently bugging me to get her that Diecast Doreamon toy. NO FRICKEN WAY! I don't want her to start a path to the darkside! Forgot to add that she DOES like my SOC's but thinks they're also a waste of good money that I should be spending on her.

My GF also collects, but with her it's Bleeding Edge Goths, Invader Zim & Clerks. She likes the SOC figures a lot though, but mostly because they look so much better than the Transformers etc...she's also the one who recomended I go with Binaltech over Alternators, even though that actually means MORE $$$ spent on toys

my wife also collects- she collects clothes, shoes, perfumes, house wares, appliances . she has all the excuse to make me buy all this things. someday, i'm gonna stand up to her and say: "enough is enough!" . then most probably, a good beating will follow, my beating (just kidding guys, but the collecting part is true...sigh).

Well, 2 weeks ago my gf told that i should stop collecting socs, that they are a waste of money, so i just looked at her, if you want to be with me you'll have too accept what i like, including video games or else you can start looking for someone else, she got the message and have never said anything again, women they just want to change every men's world, no way!!

As I posted elsewhere, my wife tolerates my collection. I'm glad I met her *before* I started, though... for all but the geekiest women out there, toy collections are like pure girl repellent. ;D
She does collect. Books. We have a substantial library, and she often has me take away her wallet when we go into used bookstores. She also has a skull collection-- she's a biologist. It's pretty cool, actually.

I know, I think I should change my name to Andres de Saya. Lol! Seriously she lets me collect but I try to time my purchases with the mood.

Hey! Tell me how that mood thingie works! I swear my GF gets into these moods where she's about to slice my head off when she see's a new SOC box or Macross box on my shelf. She's pretty much got a list of my toys.

Seriously she lets me collect but I try to time my purchases with the mood. hehehe, hey ronin, just say this to her: "what would you rather let me do? stay here in the haus and collect gokins? or go out and drink, gamble and womanize as a hobby?" guess what she picked . but use it sparingly, sometimes it works, sometimes it produces a slight sensation in the head (from the pingpong top spin she gives you there .

To answer Omni, I use my instincts, when I sense she's in a particularly better than normal mood that's when I say "honey I'm buying another toy ok?" 99.99% of the time I get a yes.
As for your suggestion mannyd that line, as you say, should be used sparingly or not at all :-) . Baka makatikim ng gulpe de gulat from misis. hehehe.

my gf loves the old toys over the new ones. but she also likes gundam like zeta. but women tend to go older toys because of the simpler designs while new toys are very techy. her favorite design is zambot. she says he is like the lord of the seas. and the first thing she noticed about it is the half moon on the head. since girls are pretty much into astrology and signs that must be why she likes him most.
