I don't think they made the upper arms thicker. I think they made a new set of lower arms and legs that are thicker than those of normal gaiking but thinner than those of powered-up gaiking.

Looking at these new pictures, I'm thinking Gaiking could probably drink as much beer as Tetsujin. Which is a helluva lotta beer!

It looks to me that the sections of the mask don't fit too well. And having the mask all segmented for the sake of that red whatever it is- structural stuff- underneath doesn't seem like a good trade-off. I'm not too impressed. JWM I second that.. I don't think it was enough to have a new version. They could have come with a pack to accessories the old one.

Quite honestly I think it's ugly as hell, and the stuff underneath the armor looks like uncooked salmon.

It looks pretty bad in all the pics except for this one. If the skull really will hold together this seamlessly then I think it will look nice. I like the look of the existing Gaiking SOC in normal mode, but the lower arms and legs look way too bulked up for me in powered up mode. This one has a pretty nice balance there, though. Mainly I just like that shade of yellow- I wish the other Gaiking were that shade.

I don't have the original Gaiking but I'll pobably at least attempt to get this one. I think this is one of the situations where you have to see the robot in action to really get the appeal of some things, such as the Face Open technique. Which is way cool to see in the new series, especially in the most recent episode.

the only thing I like is the feet.. you probably can pose his legs a lot better when standing. but thats about it really. I'm surprised more accessories weren't added.

If they would have made a yellow belly skull section plus a hands and new weapons set for the existing Gaiking I'd buy it. If they made a Gaiking that did not 'transform' at all, but could pose as well as Godannar, I'd jump on it. If they really wanted to kill us all they could release a Daikumaryu that would employ the existing Gaiking as a head.... Gaiking is a good candidate for my favorite of the old school robots, but this new one leaves me cold.

I'll retract my previous statment as being a little bit harsh. I mean, this Gaiking is ok I guess, but it doesn't have enough going for it to interest me. Some small features are better than the first one, but I like the first ones gimmick much, much more. And from these photos, I don't like the proportions on the torso and stomach, and this gimmick just isn't enough. I also don't like having two Gaiking releases so close together. It just seems odd to me. All in all it adds up to "I'll pass".

BTW here's what Gaiking should look like when he's in "Face Open" mode He goes all black except for the horns and the face open parts, he also has an "aura" about him and his hand to hand combat abilities increase exponentially. The only drawback is that the pilot exhausts all of his flame power. I smell another "exclusive" SOC repaint down the road hehe.. Gold

That's one of the issues I have with this new GK. Hopefully the fina production version turns out good, and I hope they fix the 'trick knee' problem that the original had.

I'll pass. The old Gaiking is just fine for me. The new Gai(guy) looks more like a knock-off than an upgrade.
