I feel the exact opposite, maybe because I'm not a Voltes groupie so the line hasn't "peaked" for me. Lightan, Leopardon, and the new Gaiking look very interesting to me but I really can't wait for Gunbuster and Ideon. Plus there are so many other figures that need to be made like Reideen, Daimos, Danguard, Dairugger, whatever. True a lot of collecting SOC's is the whole nostalgia thing but a lot of it is for me is because I never had any of these figures when I was young or never saw the Anime so it's new for me. Besides if I need inspiration to draw or something I just look at my collection and seeing these perfectly rendered figures inspires me and reminds me just how much I love this genre.

In a way I am also opposite. I usually am attracted to the mech and then the anime. ADD&D is Adult Deficit Deficiency Disorder...

I think you may also be bored because you only collect SOC's and nothing else. You need to mix it up a bit and not just focus on just one line while ignoring other figures that are just as good and in some cases better than SOC's. Trust me, the only people who appreciates your loyalty is Bandai and I doubt they care if you quite collecting or not.
See I love steak and lobster and could probably eat it for a week straight, but a month? A year? I would be so sick of it that I would never eat it again forgetting just how good it is.

I like SOC because of the Quality that is put into everyone of the designs. But I have a set list of what characters I wanted. I didn't plan on getting a Voltes V but ended up getting one because he is one of the Six Super Robots from the Best Posing series. Thus, I still need to get Combattler V, Grendizer, and Daimos when Bandai decides to make it. So, Still missing GX-03, GX-04 and that will be it for the SOC series. Will be moving on to different things afterwards.

I hardly collect SOCs at all, but I collect so many other great lines of figures and toys out there that I can't imagine saying the end is anywhere close for me. Especially when robots just keep going in cool new directions.
Just for consideration, how about:
Armored Core models SRW models and figures Ultraman machines (just wait till you see the diecast Ultraman Moebius spaceships!) Fewture (They're just getting warmed up!) Studio Halfeye (Hey, they are starting to get cheaper and definitely cooler!)
And that's just naming a few of the great things coming up!

SOC is always the best toyline in the market, but I can't agree with some of the characters they decide to make into SOC. I use to get the entire line, as in all the bots (except the black variant), but then we got a black and silver EVA, then the rare Zambo Ace...then Xabungle! So after I sold all my EVAs, I've decided to be pretty picky with what I buy...and not be bound to "collect em all". Right now I'm just waiting for Leopaldon....not too excited with the others that are coming out. I am excited with the Black Getta from Aoshima! haha

aside from soc, if you like to confine your collection to bandai. you can try getting other stuff from the other chogokin lines. since soc line will put out super, real and sentai/toku bots, you can try getting the kadou/kahen gundams, ultraman, godzilla figures, and neo SRs (aquarions, new gaiking) of the GD and GE line. then you will be a true bandaizer wait...bandaizer? that's a cool name. i think i will change my name to bandaizer (j/k) hehe

I, too, had long felt the need to slow down or even stop my collection as I slowly found I was spending way too much money (literally all the money I make to the point where I would have to sometimes sacrifice meals or other necessities) and quickly ending up with too little space. I started out collecting Star Wars figures, then moved into Spawn and Transformers, then into miscellaneous Japanese robots (SOC included) and Zoids, then into daikaiju, and most recently into designer toys/urban vinyl. While I have found it easy to stop collecting certain lines altogether, I have found it very difficult to stop collecting as a whole. It's like some disease or an addiction. I just thank my lucky stars that I have never been a completist.
I have recently again reminded myself of exactly how much money I do spend and how little space I do have. And moving into a new place was certainly a sobering experience. Slowing or stopping the collection would certainly help tremendously for the future (as well as feed me a little better in the meantime). It's a tough habit to break but I'm with you a hundred per cent as I, too, am trying to get out of the business. That's still not going to stop me from buying an occasional item or posting on the forums, though!
Good luck!

if you're burnt out on collecting, just take a break. Someone else said the nature of the hobby will bring you back, and they're right, usually. Sometimes the love/obsession/interest in collecting just fizzles. I haven't bought comics in over 5 years. Just shift your focus to something else and one day you'll probably rediscover your robot love!

Well, I started collecting when I first saw a GX-01 Mazinger. I'm a big Mazinger fan, and thanks to GX-01 I discovered other very interesting robots like Great Mazinger or Grendizer. I bought also secondary characters because they where so cool in the SOC treatment.
I'm not a completist, I just buy the toys that I like. I'm 34 years old, so my favourite robots from my childhood have been released in the SOC line. So, my passion has slowed down in the last months. But if Bandai releases an interesting robot for me, I will buy again, no doubt. That means Mazinkaiser, Shin Getter, Mach Baron, more Mazinger Villians...
Also have another interest, for exemple Star Wars. I've two amazing FX sabers from master replicas. And I've recently discovered some very interesting replicas of stuff from other movies. I just bought those things that I feel that are worth to be in my house, for my amusement.
So, to resume: not completist, more that just one collecting line, opened to interesting stuff of any kind, always watching the market and reading your opinions, my fellows, about all collectibles. Sometimes I buy two items in two months, sometimes a year without new items. The collector passion sometimes high and sometimes low but... I will not let go away an interesting item, this year or next year.
Just my two cents, to share my opinion with Mazfan and all of you. Mazfan seems to my like a very very fan of Mazinger, so maybe he has all the items he wanted as a child, I understand it because I feel more or less the same. But remember that, in the near or distant future, there will be another line, maybe SUPERSOC line, with improved molds, materials and mechanism... and we will fall again, my friend, we will fall again...
Best Regards,
Debira X1

Yeah, take a break there's no need to get every SOC when it's released there's always places you can go to get them later.

Robot collecting is like the mafia. No one gets out until they are dead!
Or, to quote the Eagles, "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!"
I'm with most here that say, switch it up. I vary my focus and never get bored. Check out the Godzilla side of life and you will never run out of toys to buy! Try jumbos or Ultraman. Whatever. Sometimes, just focusing on how you display your items can be very fulfilling. Get some cabinets, or new cabinets, if you already have em. As stated by others, variety is key. Enjoy your toys.

Late in the thread, I'll throw in my two cents. Just because of my age I'm one of the few who have gone through a full cycle from discovering Japanese robots, going nuts buying them, keeping them around till I was no longer enthusiastic, packing them all away, and rediscovering them fifteen years or so later. Maybe some of you have post-Voltes depression, or you're beginning to question the wisdom of spending a fortune on toys, or you're just plain ready to move on. Do what feels right. The only hard advice I'll give is this: DO NOT SELL. Don't fall prey to the temptation to say to yourself, "I need want a new stereo, rims for the car, a pair of skiis, and if I just sell off the robots..." If you're getting burned out don't hesitate to just pack it all up and store it in the basement, the attic, over at your folks house, or where ever. You'll get to a point where you won't even think of the damn things at all. Time will pass. You will grow.
And then it will occur to you. Hey- I used to have a whole shelf full of die cast super robots, Gundams etc. Or your kid will get to a certain age. You'll take down the boxes open them up, and it will be like every song on the radio that you hear that brings you back five, ten, fifteen years, to when you were dating that girl, or out with your buddies from high school getting buzzed, or just starting your first real job... The nostalgia will run thick and sweet, and you will be very very glad you didn't sell it all off for a new stereo.
Value is another question. I doubt if the SOC line will appreciate to the astronomical prices we see for Bullmark, Popy, and rare jumbo's, but you never know. Given my current situation, it is not impossible that I may have to unload some of my vintage pieces to avoid ending up in serious debt. I just took a few serious financial hits this week. I don't have to sell yet, but it's nice to know that the old pieces are there if things get any worse. Bottom line: I own the toys; they don't own me.
