I hold the same belief on variety and am now in the process of selling on ebay all the vintage I've collected in the past couple of years in order to pay for a few daigokins that I truly want in my collection. Once the vintage is gone I will then concentrate on thinning out my soc collection by selling all the doubles I've accumulated as well as soc's collected just for the sake of completing the collection. I love every one of them, but I believe that only the ones you love the most are the ones you should keep, other wise it will get out of hand. Soc can in theory go on forever.

My problem is resisting buying the "maybes", or in other words the stuff that's good stuff, but that I'm not really into, not in the long run anyway. I have a bunch of robots that I think I should have passed on so that I could spend that cash on the really good stuff. Yes I can sell these robots, and I probably will, but breaking even is not always easy, and its such a pain in the butt to ship robots.
One conclusion I came to is not to buy overly expensive models. I love models, but once you buy it and put it together, there's no chance of resell, it's yours. There are exceptions to this, but like with PG Gundams (or most Gundams really), you can't turn it into liquid capital if the need arises.

Yes, I am a completist and I highly doubt if I would ever stray from the SOC line--thank God (this will save me lots of money). I am glad that I am this way about my robot collection. I tend to get obsessive about things and I feel really fortunate that I have discipline when it comes to my robot addiction.
I have absolutely no regrets in getting all color versions of the GX's and PX's--not skipping any of them. Though I was only familiar with a quarter of them (Mazinger, Grendizer, Voltes and Getter), I was glad to get the ones that I didn't know. This enabled me to explore the other robot series and get their associated dvd's. Okay, so most of the dvd's I got were awful, particularly Zambot. But in return, I was able to discover the Evangelion series and loved it--all 6 of the SOC robots too.
Yes, one of the main reasons I collect the SOC line is because of the whole children's nostalgia thing. I only had a handful of the toys growing up and I had to leave them behind the Philippines when we moved to the U.S. (My parents convinced me that they were available in the States--not true!). And so I hoard them because I was not able to get a lot of them as a kid. I fell like I got my fill and I can now move on... Especially since Voltes is available (I am more of a Mazinger fan though).
So I guess I will be like most of you guys from now on (I am surprised that I am in the minority as an SOC completist. How many are we on this board?). I'll just buy the SOC that I really, really want (example: Daimos). As I said, I have absolutely no regrets in getting all of the SOC's. People are thoroughly impressed with my collection, especially now that they are being displayed in two, all glass and lit Ikea shelves. My tower of SOC boxes is also quite a sight (it's almost 10 feet tall).
