I wonder what's the percentage of folks who buy SOC's keep the boxes vs. throwing them away?
I keep all of mine but they are not all in great shape. I especially did not take good care of my earlier ones (I didn't think that I would become such a big collector of SOC's at first). Oh yeah, I store mine vertically and so the bottom boxes carry all of the weight. Hence, my top boxes are the ones in better shape (these are the newer SOC's, from GX10 and up). Lastly, they are not shrink wraped or anything. I don't have a whole lot of space to store them.

I doubt you'll find SOC people who throw away their SOC's boxes. I'm not a box collector per say and I prefer the "museum look"as opposed to the "toy-store" look but I do keep my boxes in case I need to sell them some day to some collector who actually loves the box more than the toy If it didn't make a difference in re-sale value I'd rather throw my boxes as it does take way too much space but it does

SOC boxes are just about the only ones I keep of all the toys I collect.

same here.. i kept my box mint as it can be.. before buying any sort of socs.. GX-blah blah.. the firts thing that i choose is it's box before it's content... toyshop knows me about this though kinda weird but i started keeping my box mint when i saw one collector two years ago with a very mint in box C10 G1 optimus prime in it's original 1980's box still "taped" at it's both end (exactly dont recall if mine was sealed by a tape)... i was pretty amazed how on earth he was able to maintain such a box for such a long time.. comparing my box to what i see make me feel something.. looking at the old box of my godaikins.. oh crap what i have i done.. "if i only take care of these.. then for sure i'll be happy right now if i only take care of this.." right now... opening my closet (used to be for clothes but not...) you will see dozens og minty mint boxes of toys.. all of them are pretty and perfectly shrink wrapped.. C8 to C9 condition.. with the exception of some whom even how hard i choose a box still.. i got some minor dents and creased... oh well i am a "box man" better take care of it than feel lots of regrets later

I keep all my boxes for the same reason, to keep the value as intact as I can. Which now coincidentally brings me to a question I was about to post. I am planning to put up a lot of shelves in my garage (for some reason the builder who built my home decided to give my garage 16 ft. ceilings so there will be lots of shelves) and was wondering if any of you have stored your toy boxes in your garage. If you have did they fare okay? I am planning to put the toy boxes inside other boxes first before putting them up in the garage shelves, not just out in plain view. What do you guys think? I am especially concerned during the hot summer months here in Virginia. As long as the accessories don't melt because of the heat I am fine with it. Thanks in advance.

Hey ronin777,
Most of my boxes (even an old popy one or two) stay in plastic totes in my attic and I have no troubles. I'm in NC so I understand your concern about the heat and humidity.

There you go!
I am the guy that throws away his SOC boxes!
But let me tell you how painfull the process is. Right after I open each robot, I keep the box for a few days, until I am ready to let it go...
I only do it for space considerations.

This talk about box storage has me thinking. I keep all of my soc boxes too, and some of them still have parts for the robot in them as every piece cannot always be displayed. I keep them in the garage and I live in Wisconsin where it gets into the negative degrees in the winter. Do you guys think the boxes with some content will be ok under those conditions?

I throw away almost all SOC-boxes! They are boring and take too much space. I keep accessories in a drawer. Of course I keep all old (70s, 80s) boxes, like Popy. They are beautiful. One exception is the UniFive DAikyozin. Really nice box that I'll never throw away.

I keep all my boxes just incase I have to pack and move and just incase I might want to sell any figure, having the box greatly increases it's value.

I keep them nice, together with the instruction booklets. Their backs look especially great. If you have some room on high shelves up on the wall, stacking them side by side showing the fronts or backs can make pretty good display. Almost better looking than anime posters LOL.

Hey man, I'm not sure about the garage thing. I had kept a few boxes there for ebay shipping next I checked they felt really soft & soggy. I guess if your going to keep boxes in the garage they shouldn't be on the floor as the moisture really gets to them

I keep em all in plastic flip lid totes with silica gell to prevent moisture damage. You can stack these endlessly without crushing the boxes within. I do keep my boxes in the garage, but only because my garage is well insulated. They are stored overhead on ceiling mounted mezanine style hangers. Nice! Safe and out of the way. I still think the closet is the ideal location for boxes because the house temperature fluctuates less. If you have that advantage, I would keep them there.

I keep all my boxes of course with the instruction booklet and even all the plastics that the robot is wrapped with. I just love looking at the artwork and the graphics of the box.

Although I don't plan on selling my collection, I still keep most of the boxes, even some that were ruined (my cat Sh*t in one of my box, when I had to use soap and water to clean up the part, the cardboard breaks apart).
I just thought that without the boxes, the toys are not "complete". But I'm quickly running out of space these days..., So I might have to only keep the boxes that are really special.

Honestly, when I first saw the SOC boxes, I thought that they were poorly designed, graphically. Poor type choice, cheesey faux stone background, and lacking in visual hierarchy (especially the back, too busy). And what's up with all of the unecessary lightning bolts? I told myself, if they can spend all this time and money designing the robot, why can't they hire better graphic designers? Isn't Japan known for its stellar graphic design? Oh well, I am over that now... I became a fan of the boxes, despite its obvious design flaws.

I was upset for a moment, but then found it to be extremely hilarious afterwards. Honestly, I didn't know what she was doing up the shelf that day, much less why she was doing it on one of my boxes ;D ;D ;D. I guess it was my fault for not immediately changing the litterbox... But she gave me 4 kitties last month, tho!

I handle the boxes...when the toy arrives...with white gloves... when done playing and displaying with the toy...if without gloves....wipe the toy with clean cloth to remove oils from my hands...
as for the bozes...I put teh clingy plastic film (for food) around it... then put it inside plastic grocery bag if it fits or customize one.. then put it in the paper bag, then put it inside the plastic totes that i see at walmart or target...
I know it is is an over kill. I am just hoping (in the long run) that the chemicals in the platic film, the plastic bag and the paper bag and even the tote box itself will not have some counter reaction with the box itself since they are not acid free and are not arhival quality--like the ones used for photos and scrap booking. Then the Tote box is put inside a closet in the garage... I live in California...not a lot of humidity but a lot of dry heat during summer....but I think with the tote box being inside the closet...it should be fine...(crossing my fingers!! )

My house is filled with boxes right now. Not sure why some brothers here threw the box away or pack it with 4 or 5 layers (both too extreme for me) ... ...
