Is it just me but I really don't like Battle Fever. It's super light (it feels very flimsy) and somewhat really cheesey looking. The firgure is more like a human-based action figure to me--less like a robot.
I should have not gotten this robot (thank god it was a gift). In many ways, this SOC should have been the first one I have skipped. I vowed not to be a completist after seeing Lightan and that Spiderman thing (I thought SOC went downhill from there).
I am extremely happy with Voltes V and Gunbuster (I am now officially a selection-based SOC collector--my bank account thanks me). And I just got Walker Gallia for my birthday (I am a big fan of Xabungle and so I anticipate loving this robot).
I know that I will upset a lot of people for expressing my views. I hope that you guys don't get mad at me and just let me vent... These are very expensive toys and I feel that we are entitled to air out our feelings (it's a very costly hobby/addiction and I am quite guarded by their value--monitarily and aesthetically). With that in mind, what's up with GX-37 King Joe, it's hideous!

I don't know what to say....
This is the first non-Go Nagai SOC I bought. Now it's him and a Black-Ox on the way...
He hung out with Dabulas, Garada and Minerva for a while, now he's got a little shelf of his own, chopping up 8" power ranger baddies..
I'm not saying he's my favorite, but he was there on a Sunday at a local toy show and the price was right ($40), so he joined my SOC army. I love all the accessories, and he's rather poseable.
I think the SOC line has a wide variety of styles overall, and it's hard to like each one. Don't get me started on evas or Voltz....

Being a Completist is hard. And I never understand that metality. The advantages of selection base collecting has more appeal to me. I looked at the SOC line and had a fix mind set of what I wanted from the very start. I created my own checklist and didn't follow with what Bandai wanted to add to this line. I saw GX-30 at a local store and while the figure looked cool, there really wasn't any attraction. I don't know anything about this robot and it wasn't dirt cheap. So I past on it. Now with Gold Lightan, I don't know much about this robot and didn't like the prototype design when I first saw it. Then I saw the actual product at a store, and I wanted it. I didn't buy because the local store had an overcharge price. I wanted it mostly because of the nice inner packaging and the size. For me, I have to be selective because I don't live in a big house and have very limited display area. No sense in buying something I can't show off. Thus, I wanted to get Gunbuster and would have already gotton one, but the size scared me off. I mean, I can get a Gunbuster but the only place I can keep it would be in my garage. Great if I wanted to resale it later, but that wouldn't be any fun.

The main reason why I became a completist is because I truly liked every single SOC release from GX-01 to 29. I didn't start out that way. I picked and chose along my the way. I decided to get them all when I realized that I had most of the line.
I guess in many way, any line loses its steam and become less exciting. I mean there is only so much robots Bandai can do for its SOC line, right? I wish that they just slow down and be more selective vs. releasing a whole bunch at a time. I like the SOC line better when Bandai didn't release so many in a year. They just felt more precious to me when Bandai released one or two a year.
I am really excited about the possiblity of an SOC Daimos (what kind of a Pinoy would I be if I am not thrilled about this news). I may get Raiden (sp?), though I don't know anything about this guy. I may skip Ideon because I am really hating the color (but I will not turn down a gift).

I feel the same way. Even thou I never held the toy in my hand , I find it not interesting, (eye catching). I do like the color scheme red & black. But thats about it. Like "MAZFAN" I'm not to familiar with BATTLE FEVER. If I did I would still think about this figure. I never got any of the GX-13----17 because I never saw the show until a few months ago. I will now think of getting them (GX-13-17) but the price on some of them are going to hold me back. I would rather get something on pre-order to save money down the road. .................MAZFAN YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

BF is a lightweight true! that is my only complaint. But he is so cool and has so many weapons plus a great poseability! He has so many cool poses! i love picking it up from time to time even more because he is so user friendly! He brings so much more to the shelf despite of his relatively small size! And he has a waist joint! Imo xabungle has much more to complain about! And i don´t understand why people say he is obscure since he is quite popular and so easy to hear about! And i live in portugal and i didnt know nothing about robots until a couple of years ago! Plus the human form of BF... then what about the mazinger girls they look much more human to me!

I agree with Joydivision, no BF-J is no Voltes V and but even without the appreciation for the Super Sentai show, it is still a great toy and fairly inexpensive to boot. It has lot of gimmicks and the weapons that are all metal. I don't think is is so lightweight, it is no lighter than Leopardon and it is much heavier than Xabungle.
"The firgure is more like a human-based action figure to me--less like a robot."
Of course it is, it is a Super Sentai Robot, like Bioman, Sun Vulcan, etc. In the show a human wears the suit, so if anything this is a tribute to how faithful Bandai is able to reproduce it. But hey, that's why we have chocolate and Vanilla.

I love mine too but everyone is entitled too their own opinion. My BFJ is standing next to Leopardon and Tetsujin 28 and looks good next too those two.

I agree. King Joe looks like a tool. Some of the SOC stuff just seems like filler.
Latey...I've been going WTF...in a bad way.

I really like my battle fever as well, It really captures the essence of the character/ robot. Although I wish they made more of it metal rather than making its weapons metal but nothing is perfect and more of this thing was done right than wrong in my books but its unlikely that everyone would share the same sentiment just as Xabungle green & blue seem like "fillers" to me.

I like my GX-30, but King Joe....... man that will be my first break in SOC numerical completion... stupid ugly thing. Sorry Bro, hit the wrong button again while posting, I did not change anything on your post BTW, for the record, I just got spaztic on the trigger, Somen Nasai! "I find your lack of faith disturbing." (Darth Vader, Star Wars A New Hope) Sorry, I have Star Wars in the brain!! LOL! Guys, you are entitled to your own opinion and what is beautiful to one can be worse than Carrie Fisher look; nowadays. I disagree with the King Joe hate club, but you have the right to say it is ugly. But I'm hoping that you guys are not calling King Joe and the previous SOC's of late "fillers" simply because you guys do not associate with the character. To many of us (shameless plug: Newly reborn Sentai Forum and read the King Joe discussions. Talk to Magengar and see how he changed his opinion of good ole' King Joe) King Joe is the shiznit. He pummeled that heck out of Ultraseven, and he is a welcomed addition and partner to the Ultrachogokin series, specifically Ultraseven. Gunbuster and Ideon are both great anime of their dayz that had a pretty good fanbase. The moral of the story is, just because he ain't Voltes V, Daimos or Reideen doesn't mean it is a filler or is not exciting. Xabungle is also a good anime of its day and many enjoyed it, maybe not as much as Gundam and Votoms, but it may arguably be a great following to the two previously named anime.

Just wanted to add that not every robot fan is into SOC, I'm still waiting for Bandai to release a SOC that catch my eyes. I find that Lightans, King Joe etc are really really bad choices, hope they will be more inspired next time. Is Raideen is coming, this will probably be my first SOC

right on, GT!!! If you don't like a certain bot, just don't buy it... How can we non-Japanese say King Joe doesn't belong (and the Evas do?!?)? I'm leaning towards getting him, if for no other reason than he's a villain, and there's not enough villains in the SOC line, IMHO. I agree that Raideen and Daimos are needed, and people have been asking for these for many years now.
Honestly, can you really call Lightans and King Joe *bad* choices? you just don't like those shows, that's all... and i think some of the robots like the EVAs, Dancouga, Zambot, and Gunbuster (while cool) are a waste of time...
I think its amazingly cool that: 1- we have a toyline as diverse, collector-friendly and out&out COOL as SOC in 2007. 2- that so many people with different tastes and interest can collect the same line of toys.
At the same time though, i'd trade all the Lightans in a second for a GX-04S reissue.

Just found this thread because I have not been in the SOC forum much these days and this is the reason I have stopped looking in here. Sheesh! Again with the closed minded statements bashing other bots that are not Go Nagai or the 25-30 bots that you love. WTF!? I've said this before and will every time someone says something like "Some of the SOC stuff just seems like filler. " or "seeing Lightan and that Spiderman thing (I thought SOC went downhill from there).", go back and look at the Popy line! SOCs are based on that series. Consider yourself lucky that Bandai did the ones you like first. Stop complaining when the Daimos or, fill in the blank, you want, isn't next (btw, I want these too.). Stop complaining when Bandai goes back and adds another obscure bot from the rich and varied Popy line to the SOC lineup. Of course people are entitled to their opinion, but when it seems that their only opinion is to always complain because they are not getting their way, it starts to sound bad. And that is my opinion. Sorry to flame, but I'm tired of this crizap!
I'll leave now and you guys can complain about SOCs. Back to the Toku and vintage for me.

sketcher. Dude, I was not complaining because this release is not Daimos or anything.... I just find it plain ugly. Just like the lighter, Spiderman and King Joe. Once again, it's not because it does not fall in a certain "Go Nagai" thing--I don't even know what that is.
It just comes down to the basics for some of us, THEY ARE NOT AESTHETICALLY PLEASING!!!
