Thanks for the clarifications, SuperfarterV... <whew!> I gotta watch my "R"s <LOL>, I wanna avoid the Re-paints and Keep the Revisions, hahaha. I saw the news at BBTS, the twin pack is a good deal; scorin That would be like killin two stones with a bird! ;D
@rex-203: Thanks, bro! Preparin that write-up was tedious, but I enjoy it. I just couldn't help playin with my Maz SOC when I shoulda finished writing the review much sooner. ;D

Damn you Magengar! I'm also a newcomer to SOC collecting with only 5 in my collection right now. Your crazed enthusiasm is contagious and I'm about psyched to buy that Great Mazinger/Venus twin pack as well now. NOOOOOOO!!! Hahaha...

Only repaint that is a must is gx-06R. Many collectors including yours truly reported that the original gx-06's paint was not really up par compared to the other SOC's. Daiku Maru's paint would peel. So the GX-06r corrected this and shot a darker blue.

D'oh! I gotta watch my R's again! ;D ;D ;D So, That's what's meant by "RePaints", eh. I've heard about one of them SOCs having trouble with their paintjobs... I'd lose Lotsa money if I had to paint the same product twice. I also noticed that some SOCs in that line have been reissued. But, Why? Before I even wanted to have SOCs, I'd read articles about that line and all I had seen was "ReIssue This, That, and The Other Thing". It left me with the impression that Bandai were gonna upgrade their first releases, just to keep fans' attention In Grip. And like a Fly to the Venus Flytrap, the sight of the GX-01R hooked and roped me in. ;D zozo-Magengar Avoid the repaints? Hmm... this is up to the eye of the beerholder, my friend. The only ones to get 'tweaked'(meaning a major difference from the original) for a reissue were the first two: Maz Z and Great Maz. There was also a Dancougar R(GX-13?) which was repainted in anime colors. And a GX-05R- Gaiking with DaikuMaryu repainted also. Bandai uses the capital letters following the GX-## to identify reissue/variants. They also use B=black, G=Gold, M=metallic, MA=Mazinger Angels, W=white and various combinations of those.
Any other reissues are simply identical (or nearly identical) duplicates of the originals, even copyright info on the boxes is the same.
Bandai reissues certain SOCs periodically. For the most part, it seems the most popular characters get that treatment(Mazingers, Getta Robos, Grandizer). It's as if the Bandai folks watch ebay prices and when SOC X reaches price $$, it's time to dust off the molds one more time. They really know how to play to/with collectors; some reissues, like boxed sets, include new packaging (yippee!) that the most die-hard collectors will begrudgingly track down.
Most of the reissue info is available in the SOC timeline thread.

Thanks Capt... I realize goin after the SOC line can be a Head-game of sorts, on Bandai's behalf. ;D Hence that's why they print on the box: "This is an Adult Collectible. This is Not a toy". The SOCs aint No Joke, Period. Who Knows: perhaps we'll get to see Bandai issue specially-made Magnetized/Compartment Display stands with clear plastic anti-dust Covers for our SOCs! zozo-Magengar The only ones to get 'tweaked'(meaning a major difference from the original) for a reissue were the first two: Maz Z and Great Maz. Yeah I would get a GX-05R, Daiku Maryu Repaint since they don't reissue the GX-05, thus making the original GX-05 more expensive. GX05R got reissue last year so its affordable, and the paint job is much improve. I was looking in my Project iron soul of chogokin magazine and there is a significant differences in the paint job for GX-05 and GX-05R.

Awesome opsy MAG, you truly have a way with words. I was looking at your profile and I noticed that I am not the only seasoned soul here on this website. As far as I am concerned, collecting robots will always be a part of my life. I have been doing it for the last 23 years and the passion is still strong. Keep of the good work and together, as a collective, we will all keep this phenomenon alive. GEN1

Hey, Thanks for the compliments, Gen1... I imagine you have seen and experienced a lot of great robot toys through the years. I salute you. My first adulthood robot toys arrived about six months ago (my Banpresto Mazinger statues and small paperweights)... but I later became serious about collecting after I joined RJ four months ago. Seeing many folks' collections here has inspired and kickstarted me to collect, and has helped my focus. My hauls have grown immensely since then, thanks to everyone here at RJ. What makes RJ so special is the variety of Culture by fans here from all over the world. Here, we can enjoy our favorite toys, regardless of age. One is never too young or old to start collecting and sharing in all the fun here. There's Always a special treat here for Everyone. zozo-Magengar Awesome opsy MAG, you truly have a way with words. Great review magengar......I could feeeeel your passion reading it. I had a similar experience when I touched my first SOC (it was GX-05R, Gaiking with DaikuMaryu) and fell in love with the diecast precision that is this amazing line of collectables from Bandai. Couldn't agree more.... and more power to those older, smoking collectors.....I know I fall into that group too. ;D Oh, and definately keep the cigar smoke away from the vinyls mate...they pick-up the chemicals pretty easily and it's harder to get out yhem than something diecast.

Thats a great idea... Magenger, why don;t you publish your own version of the SOC mag? Who knows, BAN DAI might give you the SOCs for free for you to evaluate and criticize. Much like Steve's Digital Cam's, this guy gets loads of free cameras for him to evaluate.

That would be nice... But then, if I were to get any free SOC's I'd miss the pain and suffering of sweatin for 'em like most of us have. ;D I'd also have to toyop digital cameras, so I could get a better digital camera, too. My 1.3mp camera SUCKS AZZ! ;D ;D ;D zozo-Magengar Thats a great idea... Magenger, why don't you publish your own version of the SOC mag?
