Really thinking of picking the black version from HLJ's sale.
After all these years, what do you people say about Raiden (or those of you that have the black version)?

I don't have any chogokin Raideens, and I'm not into 'Black' bandai figures. So, I'd go for the GX-41 colored version Raideen to add him to my chogokin collection line with the Mazingers. Whichever one you choose, you'll be happy with him. Personally, I don't see Bandai making any more chogokins, so grab 'em up NOW before they skyrocket into obscurity and out of affordable reach. Also, and for the Most part, grab 'em because they're nostalgic of the era when chogokins first came out. zozo-Magengar

I have both. I picked up the Black "Gucci" version on sale at HLJ, along with The Big-O... both for less than $100 USD. What can I say, its a nicely done Black Raideen and the Gold Details on it are pretty cool. However, since I don't really like the black versions of anything that much, I would've easily pass it up in order to get the original color version first.

I only have the GX-41S version. Really like the white thighs and forearms and the figure in general, but some of the accessories fall off too easily.
The amount of included accessories is staggering as well.

agree! GX-41S is usually what i would like to recomment to fellow collectors, heaps of accessories and at a very affordable price range. The paintwork remained in great shape all these years in my display cabinet. The GX-41 on the other hand , sporting chrome thighs and arms, might be more prone to oxidation.

Did something change in the market? I don't really pay much attention to the SOC market, choosing to stay focused on vintage and vinyl stuff, but I'm seeing the GX41S selling in the 200-300 range! Are these suddenly in demand? I remember lots of folks talking it down due to floppy construction but I really dig mine. What gives?

I haven't been following any news on it. I wish I had one, the white one with the Godhead pyramid and accessories. Damn, $200-$300 range... that's quite expensive! zozo-Magengar

We see it all the time, Reideen was popular but not extremely so, so stores discounted it and sold some and now with it being out of production for awhile with no foreseable re-issue the price is starting to climb back up.

Is there a taller Raideen available than this SOC version? I'm looking for at least 10" to 12" with decent detail. Not jumbo machinder size.

If there were a taller one such as what you're looking for I'd probably rob a bank and catch a heart-attack if I see a Raideen figure like that. Really! ;D
Would be nice to see a Dynomite Gokin Raideen or a FLOTS version.

Maybe this is going in a different direction: I think Raideen has one of the coolest designs of any Super Robot, but I feel NO ONE has done the figure right. Bandai with the SOC version, or the SRC release. Is it just me? I feel these version have been "floppy" (for lack of a beter term) and not very good. Or am I drunk? I wish someone would make a hefty, tight version of Raideen. Or maybe it's just that his design doesn't lend itself well to that notion. Not sure. Anyway, just wanted to vent.

If so, no, I don't believe so. But if you are not so specific, Banpresto made a vinyl several years back that's about 12" tall. It used to be quite common on ebay back then. Now? Not sure. They also released a Combattler at the same time. I've got one (of each) and can take pics tonight if interested.

Opened my GX-41 on new year while sorting out my display cabinet, thinking its about time since I had this thing for more than 2 years in its shipping box. But the experience is quite disappointing, especially compared to the GX-63 General Franky I opened on Christmas. The quality is like night & day. GX-41 has something nice going. It looks great, collapsible wings are pretty cool, God Voice is cool...maybe thats about it. Nothing on mine is faulty (surprisingly), but the figure itself is quite fiddly (loose waist, droopy shoulder plates, accessories don't want to stay on the arms, arm rings that are tough to swap, legs collapse too easily, feet don't balance well with backpack wings, rough finish on chrome metal limbs...). Now I get why there were not so great comments on this a while back. I had bad experience with Megahouse RahXephon, hoping the SOC Reideen would be quite a bit better. Turn out it was better, but not by much. It just feel quite subpar when compare to good ones came before it. Even my original GX-01, 02, 04, 06 feel much more solid than this.
Glad I got it for bargain price(around $50), but still I wish it was better. Reideen is one of the old school robot I like quite a bit, and this doesn't really do the character justice.

I wanted to go after the Raideen DX set (the SOC with the Godhead sphinx) a long time ago when it first came out. I still might go after it, IF I can manage my shelf space.
But now I'm having second thoughts about it, because of all the shelf space it will take up with my other large robot figures. So then, I'll go after the SRC Raideen instead, and sculpt a miniature Godhead sphinx for it.
It's sad that the GX-41 and the DX set didn't live up to their hype and get the fanfare they deserve.
