I rented them through Blockbuster online. I was surprised that they carried them.
mpchi, that very well could be. Its just that I've seen some bots styled after non-Japanese warriors, although I can't recall which at this moment, so I thought that maybe this might also be one. Oh well. Just something to ponder...
Edit: How could I forget? Raideen, for example, has an obvious Egyptian influence.

Excellent review Gold.. as usual...
The GX-39 originally wasn't in my wishlist before, but after going through your detailed reviews, the hunting is on... I like Baikanfu now....

Pardon me for being nosy/dense/OT... how are you guys able to watch this show? Are you guys streaming it? D/L? Or you guys were able to purchase the DVDs? I got the HK DVD sets. Machine Robo is such a niche series that there isn't really any legit release on the entire show here in U.S. The officail release only got a couple DVDs and then got cut.

So how does the metal content compared to IDEON? I'm stuck on choosing between the two..

Ideon has way more metal but Baikanfu is 100x better than Ideon. I find Ideon too red and boring. Baikanfu on the other hand has the unique Russian doll effect.

Ideon has more metal for sure. Just for diecast content, Ideon wins...heck, its the biggest and heaviest SOC so far. Baikanfu can't beat that! But for play, Baikanfu is more fun to play. Super sturdy, not much QC issues(other than paint). Ideon wins on size and mass, and very good folding panels for transforming too. But when you want to pick it up and fiddle around, you often worry the thing will collapse (loose hip, heavy weight and ankle not super sturdy). The Ideon Sword accesories don't attach at all, kind of sucks. They just sits there for display, but comes off the moment you lift the figure. Fingers too loose to grip Ideon Gun, so another display piece 'just sitting there'.
Ideon - Great for size, mass, looks, transformation is good and easy to combine. But not very sturdy for play or posing. Most joints are very tight still, but the weak spots are the hips, making it easy to flop backwards or forward. More for display.
Baikanfu - Less diecast, bad paint, but really fun and sturdy to play with no issues on accessories like Ideon. Awesome Pile Formation while still keep the thing decently poseable. No worries on how you want to pose or picking it up. It won't fall even if you try. The most sturdy SOC to date.
While I am a huge Ideon fan (one of my all time favorite show), I do rate SOC Baikanfu a tad higher than Ideon. Not by a lot, but knowing you can fiddle Baikanfu anytime and as often as you want worry free is just that much more fun for a toy.

All I know is that Baikanfu is 1 vote away of catching up to Fewture Greato and that'll make it very interesting. Ideon still leads the poll. The only way to settle it if in doubt will be a deathmatch between the two.

So how does the metal content compared to IDEON? I'm stuck on choosing between the two.. Oh, since you have Voltes as your avatar, I assume you'll have SOC Voltes V. Ideon feels very much like a Voltes in a lot of ways, especially the hip joint design. Almost identical with the diecast extendable groin for more hip movement. Similar tightness (not too loose that it flops, but not super strong for some poses), but imagine now has more weight on top half (diecast arms). One thing Ideon lose to Baikanfu is joints design. Ideon still has all the good old friction joints, with only the shoulder and knees being ratchet. The knee ratchet is not precise but wobbles a bit, which makes it worse to balance the heavy guy. Baikanfu on the other hand, tight precise ratchet joints everywhere, especially the hip & even a diecast ratchet on ankles (a SOC first I believe) where it does matter. If Ideon has ratchet on the hip and ankle, it will sure be king! But thats not the case unfortunately...

How can Baikanfu be more playable when all you can do with it is pose it and open it? Ideon has more accessories and has multiple modes.

My Ideon is totally not playable because it keeps toppling forward or backwards around its hips. How can something this expensive be this flimsy? It's very disappointing.
I strongly feel that Baikanfu is built more sturdy. I can play with mine and not have the same problems as Ideon.
I feel the same about Zambot. This guy is too stiff. Not playable as well. Dancouga on the other hand is another robot you can play with.

Didn't know people (grown ups at least...) like to 'play' with their figures that are not very stable (due to joints not strong enough to sustain its balance) just so they can loosen up the joints that much quicker and see them shelf diving happily. Or enjoy 'playing' with accessories that doesn't really fit or stay in place. ;D Happy playing then.

Yeah, in comparrison to my ever toppling Ideon. I do find Dancougar decently playable. Lots of modes, sturdy ratchet joints and the thing balance well. Though the Eagle Fighter while cool, is a bit too fiddly. But the rest is fine, if not the whole thing a bit on the big and heavy side.

Pardon me for being nosy/dense/OT... how are you guys able to watch this show? Are you guys streaming it? D/L? Or you guys were able to purchase the DVDs? Hi Bootx2, I originally had the official three Region 1 DVDs, but they only make it up to episode 15. A few months back I found a seller on eBay selling the whole series on DVD. Here is a current auction he is running: cgi.ebay.com/Machine-Robo-Revenge-of-Chronos-DVD-BOX-SET-Anime-1-47_W0QQitemZ300191696018QQihZ020QQcategoryZ1345QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemIt is definitely a bootleg, but it's the only way you'll get to buy and watch the whole series on Region 1 DVD. At least as far as I know. Regarding the show itself, I personally love it. It's goofy and hokey, maybe even sometimes repetetive, but I have fun watching it because I think the characters are awesome... Especially Baikanfu! One of my all time favorite SR's. ;D BTW, awesome review and pictures Gold. And beautiful pics GLaw!

Have to switch back to Chinese for viewing.

Hehe, that is true... the subbing, is "sub"-par in many instances. lol I was really impressed with the video and audio quality though. I'd even say it's better than the domestic ones that were officially released in U.S. Still, finally having the whole series on DVD made it difficult for me to really complain about the subbing. It's kinda funny at times.

Most likely its a rip from the Japanese boxset. The video quality usually look pretty good when they do that, instead of ripping from someone's cable TV or VHS tape LOL (which they sometimes do...).

Yeah I think you're right. I believe Pioneer released two sets in Japan, wasn't it? Man, I wonder what kind of awesome extras they had on those.
