No one know for sure.
Some think they re-do the joint, some think they removed some metal for better balance.
I'm pretty sure they changed something, because it's stated as renewal.

Any update on this guy. Seems to be on eBay, but no clue if it's the original release or the second one. HLJ.com is now marking July release. Any of you have more information on the release date?

I also have the first edition of the Aquarion and the Military Aquarion(?). Has anyone found out what the REVISION is yet? I know that they can't stand on their own, and that they like to come appart if you "play" with them too rough. So, has anyone found the answer? }D

So far it looks like a simple reedition. They surely tune him a little, but should be the same.

Hello, I am trying to find out if the renewal version of GD-99 corrects the floppiness and lack of stability that were problems with the first version of the toy. Thanks!

I didn't buy it yet. So far, all I was able to understand is that it's the same piece. No one was able to tell me what has changed since the original release.
It's still on my get list, but I got the GE-01 version instead and after that Gurren Lagann.
If you buy it do a little review.

No. We're sleeping.
I keep juggling with the thought of picking up the renewal version, but from what I've heard it doesn't correct anything, and that sort of sours me on the whole idea. It's hard to get a straight answer, as most people who've bought the first version, aren't likely to pick up the new one, so a comparison is going to be difficult/impossible to find, unfortunately.

This toy is very heavy and the attach-points are too much light. Aquarion three robot modes work allways like this : - one vector transform in legs part - second is for the shest - and the third is for... the backpack !... so it put a lot of weight not in its gravity axis but 2 or 3 cm behind. Manipulating the joints too much because of playing make them unfastened. Sometimes I have to turn myself into a mechanic to take care of this. For exemple, when you combine the vector mars to be the legs ( Solart Aquarion mode ), the upper articulation need to receive sometimes a little bit of screwdriver. But I have to test with cyanolit glue to reinforce it. For my part, I give respect to this toy : I manipulate it a lot ! I did not turn it into a "display-thing" for collectors ( no offense ! I am a collector too ), so that's why this toy is weak now to stand up. If you don't have it and you love mechas, multichangers or transforming toy... buy it ! I got the regular and full blast versions : www.lemonstre.fr/mycollection/shelf-04.jpg

Lejam, thanks for your help. I don't know how you can recommend me this toy after all your observations on articulation and stability issues on version 1. Personally I could not make that leap. I am still hopeful that version 2 fixes the major issues with the first release, but without a definite answer I won't move even if the new release completely sells out.

...I don't know how you can recommend me this toy after all your observations... No problem, Calibre. You have to know I played alot with this toy, looking for alternate transformation, or studying the shape and mecanism. That's why is not so stable now. But this toy is very strong : one day my girlfriend hit with her hip the shelf where one of my aquarion was displayed : it falls from 2 meters high ! I saw this in slow motion ( petrified myself ). result : nothing was broken. Some décorative parts poped out ( they usually are stuck with glue in factory ). In fact, I think now this famous hip articulation started to be weaker since this fall. But the major problem ( I don't know if we can called this like that ) is the weight of this toy. But we are talking of DIECAST toy. So... be sure Calibre, do NOT miss that toy. You know, I got a good collection now : all takara transformers binaltechs and masterpieces, a lot of G1 vintage, allmost all Socs ( missing : Gx-01RB, Gx-07 toy's Dream Project and the Gx-01 Kurogane no Shiro ), some GFF and ms in action, old mecha and popy ( sleeping in their boxes)... ... and my 2 Aquarions are really my FAVORITE regarding the design, combine mecanism, diecast, size ( it does matter )... If you have money to buy that toy, you won't regret it. If not, save money with smokes or beer, or... Seriously, this toy is a must have. My choice goes to the full blast version.

I have both Aquarions, the Original GD-99 and GE-01 DX Chogokin Aquarion Forced Attack Type, and I must say these robots are quite impressive. However, because I don't read japanese, the first (and only) time I actually transformed these two figures I ended up with a MASSIVE headache!!! And, true... their ability to remain standing or holding an action pose is definitely non-existant (fixable by using the included stand). But boy... they still are pretty awesome mechas!!!

ohh I'll pass. I like the concept, but it seems like we actually need SHE to make Aquarion.

... we actually need SHE to make Aquarion. We actually need SHE to be less expensive ! The size of their mecha are small. Last year during my trip to Japan, I saw a SHE Grungust in Akihabara : I was surprised by the size ! About 13 cm... I was disapointed. Okay the design end enginering is more than amazing, I know it's a little company with hand-skills professionalism, but the price you spend need maybe a bigger size toy. I can hear people says : SHE don't make toys ! !It's jewelery !
