I can't comment on the marketing decisions of Toynami, not an expert on it. But yea, the already ridiculous price of the EX is amped up for the Stealth version. The Stealth version is the one limited to 300 units. On another note, here's a pic of the EX and SoC, side by side, from a thread at gokin.it

Got my payment request and paid for it via AmiAmi. They changed my shipping from EMS to DHL, supposedly cheaper and faster. Can't wait for the King to arrive! Even with shipping, still cheaper than retail! (all in all, paid JPY30110)

A member from the Tfw2005 Voltron thread (prime0080) has this to say about the Ultimate Ex:
"So I FINALLY unboxed Ultimate EX, and it's AWESOME. Yes, it is covered in paint like I predicted, but they must have put some protective coating on it, because I've transformed it 5 times and no damage- it's still pretty. In terms of the best Voltron toy ever, I would approach that like this:
I think, for smaller figures and overall articulation: SOC. It's posability is far superior to anything else previously released.
HOWEVER, for larger figures, if you're looking for something with nice articulation, great detail, AND size: The Ultimate EX is it.
I know the EX's price is a serious turnoff for a lot of you- and I don't blame you at all, it's a lot of money for a toy- but in the end, I promise you, every single person who visits your home, and sees the EX, will go "HOLY sh*t THAT'S AN AWESOME VOLTRON YOU GOT THERE!!" or "DAMN, WTF IS THAT BEAST?!"
AND you also have to consider that the chances of the price dropping are probably rather poor- it's only going to go up- so if the Ultimate EX interests you: Now's the time...I hate to say it, but don't wait. Christmas money, tax refund, brother's hidden cash, pimping and drug money, sell blood and semen- whatever you have to do: GET THIS BOT."
Can't wait to get mine! Alongside the SoC, they'd be an awesome display in my house.

There are some things not covered in the current video of the Stealh EX, but rather visible in said video: - the leg lions connector ports seem to have additional articulation: possibility of more than 90 degrees knee bend? The promo pic with the EX kneeling showed this extended pose. - in one of the promo pics showing the EX from behind, the red lion elbow joint is able to extend (the red part connected to the elbow joint can be seen extended out of the lion body) to give a much more bent elbow articulation. - there's some kind of groove where the hip joint of the black lion looks like as if it can slide up or down. Not sure what that can accomplish..
I for one can't wait to get this and the SoC. As impressed as I am with the KoB, I just find it too close in look with the SoC for a 'traditional' Voltron, and too bland for an 'alternate' look Voltron. Would have gotten the KoB if the SoC didn't exist.

Well I got to say, i'm really up in the air now because of the ball joints on the legs. Really would prefer a ratchet. Anyone have any experience with ball joints for the legs? Do they last over the years? Another review for lions.Ball joints on the hip has its advantage: more freedom to swing around the legs.. but to me i would prefer ratchet for something this expensive although i have yet to see any figure this size with ratcheting hip (except for those 3rd party TF combiners or Omega Supreme).. that being said, my Neca 18" Cherno Alpha and Gipsy Danger ended up as display pieces because of their size; it's weird to pose a figure that big in the kicking pose. For figures with SoC or KoB size, the kicking pose would make an awesome display, but for the size of the EX, i'd probably leave it at the knight-holding-the-sword pose. The size alone is already imposing.. Although my interest in the EX has diminished somewhat, i'd still get it for the unique look

the EX is about the same height as the NECA 18" Pacific Rim figures.. it's going to be a nice display piece, but i doubt it can do the kicking pose without hip ratchet.. still, an awesome year to be a Voltron fan! 1 released, 2 to go! (KoB and SoC)

Yeah, i'm still getting the normal color one too. In the video, he didn't really show much, and came across as nit picky. Looks like he was in a rush, and just tried to force the chest in without lining it up. He's selling it here on ebay for a ridiculous amount. In the description he said its still sealed in the box, but obviously it can't be since its open for this review. the eBay seller seems to have a different box than the one in the video (the video pointed out a dent of sort on the lower green corner, and the one in eBay looks undented). Probably different people or another set being sold. it's weird that the sticker said "1 of 300" on both boxes.. maybe that's just a statement instead of actual numbering..

I'm with you man.. not that impressive for the price point.. i don't like the fact that it lacks ratcheted joints at the hips.. although i think there are other articulations not shown in the video (the knees, the elbows). and that unholy chest problem.. sigh. the problem with toynami's past products is usually plastic quality. this one appears to have good plastic quality, only bad gaps. but if it is made by Oritoys, im not surprised; their optimus prime has the same feel too. overall, i do like it, but ya, i can see now (with the video, not merely speculations) that it is not worth the price point. still getting the normal colour version tho

Update from Toynami's Facebook: Looks like the Stealth one is already one its way to purchasers, and the normal ones are heading to stores. One of the pics shows a very nice elbow joint (more than 90 degrees for sure)

Agree, I hope the green and red Lion tails won't be easy to loose. Detachable parts always bugs me.. You can combine the arm lions onto the Black Lion with tails attached but it is not suggested especially when you move it around. That's the worrying part. But if it means a cleaner lion mode 'rear' without protruding ermm 'malehood', i'm ok with it

the thing about the SOC its tickling the nostalgia feeling in most of us that why we are excited about it, even tho Bandai didnt go the extra mile with it (i guess they will milk it) however still early to judge we need it in hand Agree, I hope the green and red Lion tails won't be easy to loose. Detachable parts always bugs me..

How is there any doubt that THIS is the best, if not ultimate, version of Voltron? Plenty of articulations, especially the lion mode legs and well defined sculpting to really differentiate the lions (the boxy red and curvy green). The only remaining question would be the strength of the joints..

now that one has the wrist rotation.. hopefully the new one has it too. For me, the firing gimmick is fine as long as it doesn't sacrifice neck/wrist articulation. I really do like the new head, wayyy better than the first KoB, and on par with the SoC

The Black Lion pose in the poster looks like a bear's Love the chest redesign and the face.. Wish that the wrist have articulations; it's acceptable for the arm mode, but kinda killed it for me that the Green and Red lions have no neck articulations whatsoever (no, the firing gimmick is not considered articulations). Unless they do have and it's not shown in all the pics so far?

If anyone can translate this mini review to English, that'd be nice.. www.toysdaily.com/discuz/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=253450&extra=page%3D1&page=1all i get from Google Translate are: - high mobility (articulation?) - fit not light (tight joints? - can do the Iron Man pose but the photographer had limited time to do it - no weapons for the individual lions (bummer!) - metallic paint - neck extension for the Black Lion

Looking good. Seems like all three Voltrons may be released in this month (SoC, KoB and the Ex). There's plenty of choice for everyone. Some may get all three, two or just one. I personally don't see a competition at all; each collector has his/her taste. Good times for Voltron collectors. I will get the SoC and the Ex; the KoB looks closer to the Soc/anime Voltron and for that reason I'm skipping him. The EX would be my alternate look Voltron.
