just yesterday (5/4/15) i happened across this AMAZING comics/collectables shop about a 45 minute drive away; www.advunderground.com/WOW what a trip!! i haven't been in a B&M storefront with so much Anime-related goodness in one place in like fifteen years now! i was beginning to think such shops no longer existed outside major U.S. cities, but there we were!!! of course, i just couldn't walk out empty handed;

one of the earliest MACROSS toys i ever owned, the infamous YAMATO 1/72 VF-11B. i too suffered the breakage issue not long after purchasing from the long defunct JUST BE TOYS of PORTLAND OR. in 2001 for like $85. the shop accepted one exchange, and, after the second copy broke, i just put the blasted thing into storage, where it remained for years. just recently i made a move, downsized some, and came across the old thing again, and decided to attempt a repair job. it worked pretty well, and while i was at it, i tightened up all the joints and reversed all ratchet assemblies throughout so they would no longer detent, and instead provide a tight but smooth friction, allowing the toy to line up and fall right into properly aligned place in all modes;

finally got her hair in some semblance of order. straight out of her box, it was a real mess. definitely higher maintenance than the hollow vinyl molded hair of my Mikuru-chan. Belldandy's such an Angel♥ she makes it all more than worth the trouble. just in case anyone might not have been aware of it, Belldandy is literally a Goddess, loosely based upon a spiritual entity from ancient Norse mythology; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ver%C3%B0andien.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nornsen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh_My_Goddess!

a loose TF JETFIRE with a missing arm was where my transforming VF-1 toy collection started, right around 1999/2000, the worst time ever to be looking for original japanese market 1/55 VF-1s. at that time, i knew about, and desperately desired, an Ichijo VF-1J T.V. and/or Focker VF-1S, even the almighty 1984 Ichijo VF-1S STRIKE, especially the STRIKE at the time. with the prices ballooned as they were then, however, i dared not entertain the faintest hope of owning even one of them in even the poorest physical condition. today, i've a collection i could have only imagined in my wildest fantasies back then, and have somehow along the way ended up growing fondest of the Ichijo VF-1J T.V. and have been consciously driving toward a complete collection of transforming Ichijo VF-1J T.V. toys from all throughout the ages, 1982/PRESENT DAY. i'd say i've a solid foundation so far. i might wish to add a YAMATO 1/48, TAKATOKU 1/100, BANDAI HI-METAL 1/100, and perhaps the IMAI VARIABLE TYPE 1/72 model kit to round it all out, but i think i could just as easily stop right here and call it a day, indeed i might even be wise to do so;

interesting thing is IRL, to my naked eye, in bright lighting, this reissue's plastic tone seems more a Slate Gray than anything else, a light gray with a slight blush hue, a definite Slate to my eye. just thought that an interesting observation to mention...

and here it be, my very first "proper" 1/55 VF-1. to the contrary of some respected opinions out there, this 2001 reissue can indeed achieve GERWALK without shoulders canted at extreme outboard angles, just the same as the original 80's releases can; it is a very good quality reissue, especially for a 21st century product. it feels a little loose in some ways, when directly compared to my 1984 TF JETFIRE version, but that is largely corrected by dogging down the screws throughout. with all the factory printed placarding, and it's crystal clear legibility, i'd say this reissue, while perhaps not QUITE as high a quality in it's materials overall, is vastly superior to any previous 1/55 edition, for pretty much any interested party besides the hardcore vintage collector. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
