You are using a 30D right, with what lens, I'm guessing a 60mm EF-S macro? Light tent? where do you position the 3-point lighting?

yes am using an EOS30D but with a Tamron SP90mm macro. Using DIY softbox for 2 speedlites... not 3 point each at a 45 deg angle on the left and right commanded wirelessly via STE2

Sorry guys, off topic I know but curious as to how some folks shoot their toys.
Thanks, Kelvin. I hope you don't mind sharing, but I have a few more questions and comments.
1. Is the Tamron a True 1:1 Macro? With our conversion factor of 1.6x that gives you approximately a 144mm field of view. So you get what about 6 inches of focus distance from the object. How fast is that lens? I noticed you are getting good Bokeh out of the Tamron.
2. DIY softbox? So you use diffusing materials on three sides? What do you use for the backfground?
3. Oh, so your lighting is done with two flashes at 45 deg. to the left and right of center. Makes sense, it give your talent /objects that front lighting. Nice.
BTW, I shoot with an EOS 20D, I use either the 60mm EF-S or a 100mm EF. I usually shoot using aperture priority using either 8-12 F-stops. I use a light tent to diffuse the light from two continous white light sources at 90 deg from the object at a distance of about 3 feet from the light tent. I position a soft light above the tent also diffused and all with the camera on a Slik tripod with a Velbon Ball head. Using the TC80N3 Canon remote...

My pleasure to share 1) yes it's a true macro. 1:1 at 11.4 inches according to the official specs. It's max aperture is f2.8 2) DIY softbox = 2 cartons with both ends cut open. Pasted 2 layers of tracing paper on one open end. Lined the insides with foil. Put the speedlites inside. As for background, for this I was using thick black paper.

I've always love the Hibiki costume design, too bad I couldn't get into the show...a Kamen Rider musical was just not in my palate.

I've always love the Hibiki costume design, too bad I couldn't get into the show...a Kamen Rider musical was just not in my palate. They actually abandoned the musical numbers about a dozen episodes in, and there were never very many of them. But Hibiki never really grabbed me the way some of the other series did. Kiva, on the other hand, went from being just kind of there to being nearly as engaging as Blade was-- it's a very character-driven story, and really well done! As far as SICs go, I've got SIC Den-O Rod & Axe Form on the way, and I'm talking to a friend of mine in Japan to get me some of the Artworks Monsters figures that are only coming out on amazon japan...

Ah, you said a dozen? LOL, I couldn't get past the 1st 2 episodes with that silly, off-broadway numbers they kept doing, I have all the episodes, maybe I'll start with 13? Kiva was ok, I like the concept. But I usually wait until I have the complete series before watching it anyway. I liked Kabuto, except the end was somewhat disappointing, I guess that goes for many Japanese shows. Setup a big bang and get something along the lines of a snap. Faiz, Kabuto, and Kuuga would have to be my three favorite new riders. With Ryuki a close 4th. I need to watch more of Blade to add it, I have the complete series of that one as well...but just need time. I watched Garo in its entirety, including the movie this past Holiday and that was awesome!

I cheat do not watch all the Kamen series (not time) and instead to opt out and get the movies after the series ends..more bang for the buck (with often all the characters getting some airtime and lots of action)
I love the hibiki film-and thought the drum session for the opening was brilliant! and i love the look of hibiki's costume- i have to get some of the sic versions soon. (while they are still available!)
not seen kiva, but not hip on his looks.
Garo is stunning!..loved every second of it.

But why is it, even on an obvious adult themed show like Garo with nekkid breasts showing often, can they get a truly, believable, adult, romantic side story going? Most Japanese shows I've seen, including Macross and Kamen Rider, the romance part of the shows, always fall in the boyish, prepubescent, undertoned, sophomoric love story? Filled with what could have been, uber hesitations, and uber none realistic views of Chivalry. It is more like a teenage boy's wet dream coupled by his virgin confusion of his actual desires... Anyway, Hibiki's suit is as good as it gets, I agree.
