cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6017001336I won this thing on ebay a few weeks back, and should have noticed the black legs and sword at the time. Neither came with the Matchbox version. I now have the item. The diecast is perfect, but the white parts of the plastic look a little cheap, and the plastic joints and seams are done a bit carelessly. There is no copyright on the toy. I'm not going to bug the seller about this because I pretty much got what I paid for, but what version is this? Does anyone know? From what I've heard of Lion-bot, this doesn't sound like it.

I've just found some new pics of Lion Bot and it looks like a match. They both have the grey wing joints instead of the white ones, as well as the raised red launcher on the blue lion's back. Can anyone confirm that Lion Bot had the all black legs though?

I thought Lion-Bot had a black instead of a blue face.

Maybe there were two variations?

Yes, definitly the lionbot version. the trendmasters version is the one with the black face. Depending on when the particular lionbot set was produced it could either have either chrome legs like the matchbox version, all black legs or black legs with chrome stickers on the front. The gray wing pivots and chrome stickered legs usualy go hand in hand so the previous owner might have removed the stickers on this one.

Then which version is the one I bought in the 80's? It has chrome legs, springs still in the missile launchers, but a black face. Missile launchers with springs still in it.

The answer might be here, if anyone can translate this page: www.dxtoy.com.tw/http/lion.htmlIt has the image of the black face and even a silver face. Mine was the one made in Taiwan.

Thanks Otaru! I guess I have the black face Lionbot version, too bad it's in crap condition. I've been looking at the getting one of newer Lionbot boxsets but I want a blue faced version but you can't tell which version their selling unless they open it up and look.

With the price of the Masterpiece Voltron, it is really best to just find the old Golion or Lionbot, even the Taiwan boots will do, since they will still have the firing missile gimmick which made me like the toy to begin with. Hefty, chunky and can poke the eyes out, you can't go wrong with that and for a much affordable price.

Any idea where one can locate the missiles for Lionbot? Mine didn't come with any.

chen, I have the black faced one too with the yellow accents. Mine is in a single pack by itself and bears the model number da307 in front. I believe this lion is the worst of the lot because although it has has the chrome legs and the sharp fangs its torso is made entirely out of plastic, and the metal is a steel weight that is actualy bolted inside of the lion. Let me know if yours is the same way. I also believe that if this lion came in a set then it is usualy accompanied by the normal diecast blue and yellow lions, but plastic bodied green and red lions.

Funny, this has the original Japanese name but is clearly made for the North American market.

how much do the taiwan versions usually go for.. and are they really worth getting vs the originals?

Its not a bad choice because the taiwan version will have all the weapons as well as firing capability of the japanese version. The lionbots realy have gone up in value this year as Ive seen some of the older sets go around $150 and the newer ones go for close to $120 on ebay. But its all about fit and finish and thats were the japanese version wins hand down. If you can score a MIB matchbox set for under $150 consider it a good deal. And of course get the godaikin version if you can afford it.

There's a Matchbox set on Ebay right now that's been bid up too $300.00+, a Godaikin one with a starting bid of $400.00, and I saw an original Japanese GoLion, chrome elbows and all on there with starting bid of $700.00. So yeah, I'm gonna look to get a bootleg or a Trendsmaster one.

I saw a guy selling a rather decent Matchbox Voltron III or 200 is that too much?

It depends on the condition, was it still MIB? Plus the Matchbox ones didn't come with any weapons, that was an accessorie pack you had to buy. But if it was a "Buy it Now" for $200.00 that seems pretty good.
