I'm looking into buying at least one vintage Godaikin super robot (a combiner). I saw that Dynaman one... is it a good one? And how about the original Combattler V? Just looking for a loose/mostly complete one. How are they like when combined? Floppy or rock solid? Are they heavy in die-cast content?

Dynaman is not a super heavy d/c robot, but it is a great first buy. You would enjoy it. Believe it or not Goggle V is a pretty satisfying first buy. It has a TON of diecast and had been relatively reasonable. Combattra is expensive and quite nice; but it does tend to fall over pretty easily. It's a super-heavy tripple combiner that is an aquired taste. You will aquire the taste once you've been in the hobby for about a month Ed

For a FIRST GoDaiKin, I would recommend you getting something that has a personal meaning or perhaps something from your childhood.

Never had a Godaikin figure when I was a kid, I don't even think they were available in Quebec back then. How much should I expect to pay for a loose Dynaman? Or loose Combattler V? Is Dynaman from an old Power Rangers-like show? I know nothing about that stuff. What I'm after is a cool combiner that has a good amount of metal.

megatroptimus, I've got a loose Dynaman and a loose Sun Vulcan I am selling. I am about to post some stuff in the For Sale forum tonight.
In terms of what to get, its really what you like best and what you are willing to spend. The creme de la creme are obviously the Tetsujin 28, Votles, and Combattler. Gardian is a unique design, but is it hard to determine your like for the whole Godaikin line based solely on this toy. If you want an affordable one that will give you a good idea of the quality and detail of these toys, you really can't go wrong with any of the combining sentai bots (Dynaman, Sun Vulcan, Bioman, etc.).

Hi, I've started collecting Godaikins a year ago and my first one was Google V. Now I have all of then (except Tetsujin 2) and I still love him more then most of the other toys :-) Dynaman is beautiful but 70% plastic...I like heavy die-cast toys, so it's not my favorite. Same is with Bioman, Daimos (my worst disappointment, ST is a much better toy!), Sun Vulcan. My favorite toys from Godaikin line are: Gardian, Daltanias, GoLion, Combattra, Godsigma and Voltes V. Voltes is the best of them, if you can afford it - buy it, you will not be disappointed.
Alex.
P.S. The best toy I've ever seen so far is Daikengo Buildplan - a true masterpice

Yeah, I like Goggle V, too (although not my favorite), but it seems to get the least respect out of all of them.

Don't forget to consider Voltes V!

Try a not-so expensive Godaikin first and see what You think. I began my collection buying non-mint Godaikins without original box and missing some accessories, but no broken or loose parts and with painting in good condition. They look great on the shelf for a fraction of the price of a mint one. Later I have invested in some mint versions of Godaikins I really like.
My personal favourites are Daltanious, God Sigma and Gardian. But all Godaikins are fantastic in their own fashion. Also I think they have something the SOCs usually lack: soul.

What an irony eh? The SOCs are suppose to be the SOULS of the vintage gokins.

Nope, I don't think it is irony. I agree with markusg - old school toys have a "soul", SOCs don't. I've bought one SOC for a try - Combattler V. Well, quite an interesting toy, but compared to the old one it's just bunch of "dead" metal and plastic. When you look at the old toy, touch it there is some-kind of a feeling that comes from it, nothing the same is with SOCs. So I gave the only SOC I have to my nephew, he was HAPPY :-) The interesting thing is that I've bought all 4 Fewture Getters, cool looking toys but they also don't have a 'soul'.... All above IMHO.

I think it has something to do with Godaikins being made as toys for kids, and SOCs being collector pieces. It creates peculiar subtle differences in the characteristics between the figures. Being toys, the Godaikins have more energy and imagination somehow. And I would mention that toys are always built to be more heavy duty than collector pieces.

By look alone, I really wish I could afford a Combattra or a Voltes V, but with new stuff coming out all the time, I don't think I will ever be able to afford one...

i would start on dynaman or google v because they are not very expensive and very nice and you could get a feel of the godaikin line and then i would go to combattra and voltes...after that t28!

Daidenjin would not be a bad start too. Albeit it's not as big as dynaman or goggle v but it definitely has lots of diecast and it transforms too. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks guys, Daidenjin it will be! He looks pretty cool and the transformation looks almost more interesting than several first generation Transformers that came well after it. What is the % of die-cast in it? And could you guys post a picture of it next to a Transformer?

Alright, I just won one Daidenjin MIB for $56.99. Is that a good price? The toy is complete and in awesome shape.

Rather than look for any specific toy, I'd just consider my priorities, and how much I was willing to pay. No matter which Godaikin piece you get, you'll be happy with it. Do you insist on C10 or MIB condition? Is a box important? Will you risk an overseas seller? Obviously, if you're not fussy about having all the missiles, and stickers, and extra accessories, you can get off much cheaper. Rather than look for the next GoggleV or Voltes, look for the next Godaikin in the condition you would find acceptable.

I mostly want them loose/complete or at least complete in robot form (not missing fists or important parts). Swords and missiles are not all that important. It was a coincidence if I got that one MIB, the price was good (at least compared to MIB Transformers from the same era!).

I got the Reideen GA-09R reissue and the Godaikin DX Daidendjin today and I'm super stoked. Reideen is heavy as hell for the size, and so is Daidenjin, plus he has an awesome transformation for the time imo. I love how the shoulder separates to reveal the landing gear and the space to store the head. Really clever.
