Macross - The new songstress is the (equivalent of Grade 12) 3rd year Senior High student, Nakajima Megumi

At the Macross 25th Anniversary Live "Minmay meets Fire Bomber", held on the 18th (Saturday) at the Nippon Seinenkan (Japan Youth Hall), it was announced that Nakajima Megumi (pronunciation provided) will take on the role of the new songtress "Lanka Li" in the planned "Macross F (tentative)".

Miss Nakajima is a 3rd year Senior High student born in the Heisei era and she commented that at the time the announcement was made regarding her being selected for the role, "My manager was speaking softly on the phone, at first I thought I didn't make it. For a week, I couldn't believe it." At the same time, serving as the venue for announcing the "New Macross" songstress chosen from 5000 candidates in the large scale audition, the hall welcomed her with cheers. As the songs for the new program have yet to be written, Miss Nakajima sang the "Macross Plus" theme song, "Voices" (Original singer: Arai Akino) before the sold out hall, and calmly showed a glimpse of her talent.

"Macross F (tentative)" is set in around 2070A.D.. F denotes "Frontier"; "Frontier" stands for the migration fleet which is the setting of the story. The story is about the fleet's encounters with space monsters (or things to that effect) while on its course. It is planned to be a TV series with Kanno Youko handling music, Kikuchi Kouji as director, Kawamori Shouji as general director. An approx. 2 min. video was shown for the fans, who were hungry for more.

2070 = 25 years AFTER Macross 7.

There's the slght possibility we might see characters from Plus or Seven as elders.

I was hoping Haruhiko Mikimoto would do the artwork myself, but I guess that's asking too much.

The character designs look "generic" anime. At least Zero's character designs looked a little more distinct. Hope it changes though.

Not sure if I like the style and feel of the show yet. But like how some of the animation is very detailed, like a high quality production. While being a Macross fan, don't really have high hopes just yet on what this new show can be, as it seems that the more advance the timeline/story is, the less "Macross" it feels. So we'll see about this one.

I kind of agree, but that's not to say I necessarily have low hopes for it. It doesn't really feel like Macross though, but more of an imitation of sorts. The characters' style look very much like the now all too common modern anime style, looking a little too bright and cutesy.

The Valkyrie transformation looks awesome though. Similar enough to be identifiable as a Valk, but different enough to be fresh, new, and exciting.

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The jet mode does look awesome, especially with the Hikaru homage colors (red & black stripes), even though a bit similar to the YF-19 & VF-0. But guess all the recent Kawamori jets designs will look more or less like that these days. Too bad Mikimoto never reprise his role in character designs in any of the late Macross shows. Wonder why. Too old school for the Japanese?

The only macross I cherish is the macross the original,DYRL and macross plus.. this one does feel like macross 7..

I agree. The old school fans would've loved to see Mikimoto work on the character designs again. Aside from the Valks, Mikimoto's character designs for the series and movie were iconic Macross.

I'm not dissing the character designs now, but I would agree that it looks too generic.

Anywhoo, anyone notice that the VF-25 looks like a love-child between the 19 and 0? The fuselage, chest-plate and rear section screams 19, and wing roots and the wings themselves look 0.

Lol...the transformation sequence makes it look really fragile for any kind of transforming toy...

But I'll suspend judgement on the characters and story until I see a few episodes. After all, the look of the characters can easily be offset by good writing and quality voice acting.

The CG also looks pretty well integrated with everything else--kind of like GITS SAC or something recent.

i can't find it on Veoh or BitTorrents...how many episodes are out? where can i watch them?

You guys really need to calm down about the CGI.

It was pretty good for Macross Zero and Aquarion. It looks like Satelight has definitely stepped their game up for 2008.
