So, do you think we'll see Yamato Valks from this? Or Bandai? I wish Bandai would jump back into the Macross market. But I'm guessing their days are long and gone. Yamato's now taken the reigns. BTW. A NEW commerical for Macross Frontier was just released....it looks friggin NUTS.

So, do you think we'll see Yamato Valks from this? Or Bandai? Back when Yamato first came out with the 1/60 VF-1's with the removable legs, and fans were clamoring for Bandai to re-do the franchise, Bandai felt that the Macross series was "dead" so they didn't want part of it. ... of course, they took out their old molds for the 1/55's and shelled out the Chunky Monkey reissues when they saw there was still a market for a dead franchise. Sarcasm aside, the point is, Bandai let the Macross franchise go, so it's most likely that we'll get VF-25's from Yamato which cost an arm, leg, a kidney and a lung.

In a weird strange of events it turns out that Bandai HAS returned to the Macross franchise. Graham from MW confirmed that they're a major sponsor for Frontier, they'll get the first crack at toys and models this time around. I eagerly await to see what they have planned after a ten year absence.

Graham from MW confirmed that they're a major sponsor for Frontier, they'll get the first crack at toys and models this time around. That's a good sign. At least this occurrence will let Yamato know that they don't have the monopoly for Macross toys anymore. I loved Yamato for bringing Macross back in the game, but their monopoly has made them a monster! Their toys are a dream (being a hybrid toy and model in one), but in the past couple of years, their prices have been LUDICROUS! If Bandai can churn out BETTER QUALITY toys in the same caliber (in terms of aesthetics and accuracy) as Yamato, then they can have my bank account number- and pretty much every other Joe Macross that had to let go of buying Macross toys because of the ridiculuous prices.

I EAGERLY AWAIT what will be a Merry Christmas gift for Macross fans on RJ. Here's a teaser. NEW Elintseeker (Cats Eye) VF-171's and VF-25 with Fast Pack Armor FTMFW. Here's the new commercial that's been airing to promote the Frontiers of Macross special on December 23rd. That is quite a nice comparison on the commercial, makes the new show pales in style, but more impressive on the details. The music, character design, and the look and feel of the original just have so much more impact. But no doubt the new show look and feels more modern, more detailly drawn and more 'technically advance', though less Macross. But if it does turn out to be a great show, or even surpasses the original, then there sure will be a spot reserved for it on my DVD shelf. ... Just read the comments from the Macrossworld folks after they saw that premeire Episode 1. Pretty much its a landslide OMG comments post after post. Maybe we have a winner afterall. Now I start to get excited about this. ;D

Holy Smoke! Just watched the episode, and I am convinced! This is indeed a very good start for this show, and its no joke that Kawamori is trying to make it OVA quality for this TV show. I just wonder how him & his crew are gonna keep this up with a TV show with quality this high to last 26 episodes. The alien bug does need a bit of getting used to(very organic). Love the ending theme too. This might indeed be a very worthy TV series successor of the original, that a lot of Macross fans like myself have been waiting for.
Those VF-17 look so sweet, even though they served more as cannon fodder than anything.

Yeah it is. After watching it, I said it WOW. BTW, I like also the ending too 'coz its an old song I used to love and it was sang originally by Mari Ijima from Macross the Movie way back in '84. Man, I'm getting Do You Remeber Love LSS (Last Song Syndrome) jitters when I heard that song again. ;D

That was sweet!
Definitely promising! Quality wise (at least on this Ep), it looks a little better than Zero. I just hope the creative team steps out off the "Zero type" ending.
Can't wait for the next Ep!

Great series but I'm a little confused about how it fits in Macross continuity. It says it's the year 2059 so is it before or after Macross Plus? Plus if it is a continuation of Macross 7 then shouldn't Max and Millia still be alive since Macross 7 was set in I think 2038. Plus i'm gathering this is like a exploration colony so they have no ties to Earth.
Anyway that last scene reminded me of how Rick saved Minmay in the original series.

I guess that remains to be seen.
Had the same questiions when Macross Plus came out, but it was surprising that it had no real ties to the original story (non appearance of any of the original characters from the series or movie).
But what I do appreciate about NOT having any ties to the originals is that it will not (possibly) leave any loopholes or spark any debates on "why, when, and how."
Who knows though... maybe this series gives us an answer on what happened to the Megaroad-01 (Hikaru, Misa, Minmay). ;D

Good news.
ShinsenSubs picked up the series and have already fansubbed episode #1.
Never mind the horrid translations on Seiyan's version.

Macross has a knack for recycling minor plot devices... if we liked it the first time, we come back for more! BTW, Macross Plus was 2040 - it introduced the VF-19 and VF-22 chasis (in prototype form, of course) and the main story line of Macross 7 was 2045 when those 2 Valkyrie chasis were common place. I'm really liking the new Valkyrie design in Frontier... kind of a combination between those two. The ejection system was a little weird tho... Without giving a spoiler, I'll only say, "oh don't tell me that kid is gonna..." and then he did. Oh yeah, I also got the Shinsen fansub torrent linked from www.animesuki.com - so fast! There were like 300 peers at the time.
