Man... I know in my brain that those are just prototype photos but my heart is screaming at how nice it looks.
Anybody got photos of what the bottom looks like? I'm real curious about how the link up works. As you all know, the Alpha-Beta (Legioss-Tread) link-up involved a bit of anime-magic where the two components just sort of ...attached magnetically with no obvious mechanical movement. When CM's version came out earlier I was just simply disappointed to see that their solution was basically a trailer for the Beta half to sit on while the Alpha half towed it along.

The link-up sounds solid. That's funny when the interviewer in the video asked the Toynami representative, "could turn it upside down while flying it in a room." They really place an emphasis on the amount of diecast content.

I wonder if this Toynami beta will link up to the CM Legioss?

I wonder if this Toynami beta will link up to the CM Legioss? The toynami Beta is 1/55 and the Cm's is 1/48, unlikely.

toynami's version advertise as a 1/55 when in fact it's taken from the old Imai kits 1/48 and the CM are about the same size as the 1/48

From the preview: "Red, Blue, Green, Grey and Purple versions planned" Did I miss something? I have not seen a purple Alpha released yet. I have the first 4 but I also have been out of the loop for a year or so. - Robby

It's from Robotech - The Shadow something movie. They introduced a Skull Alpha and a black/purple Alpha.

toynami's version advertise as a 1/55 when in fact it's taken from the old Imai kits 1/48 and the CM are about the same size as the 1/48 If they are close in size, then it might fit. It would depend on the dimensions of the link up bar and wether the arms of the Cm's Legioss can interlock, with the set up on the Cm's the arms don't interlock with the Legioss. This is why the link up is loosy goosy. I really don't know the dimensions of the Toynami alpha, but the Cm's alpha-beta tread combo is around 13 1/4 inches and the Toynami's is 16 inches in length. The Toynami beta also has a larger wingspan of 16.75 compared to the Cm's roughly 13 1/2. The overall dimensions of the Toynami beta are larger when compared to the Cm's beta. How many of you guys will be buying the toynami version?

despite my hatred for toynami, i might have to dip into this one- the cm's was bad.
remember: toynami is full of it when it comes to scale. They're labeling them 1/55 because their fake chunky monkeys were 1/55, the thought being "who would buy the Masterpiece Collection, when they're out of scale from one another?"

I'm in too, to answer my own question. I'm going to buy all three. ;D I'm also going to keep my Cms Beta.

I'm afraid of spending $149 + shipping on this, as bad as the Alphas were, these would likely break them when they combine!

Great, I was just about to buy the CM's version. I already got the green Toyanami Alpha, so I'll wait for the green Beta instead. Close call!

I hear ya man, these will be major shelf queens. I am all about the larger scale shelf-queen toys. If it's 10" or more i'm into it. I've had to downsize most of my collection recently due to space- I asked myself, "do I really *need* this?" and the answer most of the time has been "no." It's not downsizing for money, it's because I need a new workspace area here at home. But with the CM's Beta breaking my heart with poor quality, I decided to throw in a pre-order for a Toynami Beta. I even canceled some other pre-orders just so I can get one. You know what really did it for me? Masterpiece Voltron. It's a nice piece, it still feels kinda cheapy like the Alphas, but when I was playing around with a display one at a shop a couple months back, I felt that it was worth its value ($135) - and I started to feel like maybe I should give the company another chance to do the right thing. BUT... If there's any glaring defects in the Beta, which they've had prototyped for over 5 years and plenty of time to work out any potential production problems, there's no excuse. Loose joints, sloppy paint, bad tampos, no-fit transformations, bad joints, any QC issues... this time, there's no excuse guys. I've felt bad, over the years, at my venom tongue, which spits at Toynami at every opportunity. Maybe my boycotts on their products are out of line, especially when there's an american company who is trying (and failing most of the time!) to bring "quality" transforming robots to the US shores. Especially after the SDCC 2008 presentation, with their seemingly renewed commitment to bring quality back. Although, I seem to remember in 2005 them saying the same stuff, except without the bandai partnership. BUT- I will have absolutely no respect for any collector who continues to purchase ANY of their products if the Beta fails. Not a drop. I will gladly shun their SOC imports no matter how cheap. It's THAT type of a message - "Oh, I know this toy has problems, but i'm still going to buy it ANYway, even though it's overpriced, I'm still going to let them rip me off" - that creates the "bad-QC + high price" problem which is plaguing robot collecting nowadays, and it's the attitude that produces all the bad product we've seen lately from guys like Aoshima, etc. If you don't draw the line here, with this product, where will you? when all gokin starts costing $500+ for the same product that cost $50-80? At that point it's too late.

Dude the CM's beta / tread is not poor quality. Actually the toy is rather nice quality with excellent QC, parts fitting and all around an awesome toy. The only thing that fails on the CMs completely is the bad link up otherwise its a nice toy. Well a nice expensive toy.

It has excellent quality as does mostly all of CMS products. It just has a funky link up assembly. As far as Toynami goes I have never been a fan of their merchandise except when it comes to the Beta and the new Bandai1/55's that they will be importing. I choose to purchase certain pieces that are my cup of tea. If I want it and like it, then I will buy it, despite of some minor design flaw. I'm a huge Macross, Mospeada, and Super Robot fan. Paying 500+ is not new for me and many others on this forum. Sometimes I say, "man that is expensive", but I am a collector.

Finally got my green Masterpiece Beta (Toynami). Only 135 CND shipped. Great job on this one, it's heavy AND solid. The connection with the Alpha is well done... but that just reminded how crappy the Alpha is! Hadn't transformed that one in over 2 years I think. Ewww. Not my set is complete. If only the Alpha was as good as the CM's version...
