It's true that it influences a lot of people, as you can see 90% of the associated comments agree with the CDX review, while at least the few of us here all agree that it's a decent toy. It's just unfortunate.
It's sad that most of the comments were from folks who don't actually own the toy too.

I know that review is just an opinion, but frankly I think it should have been considered unfit to print. It's too confused to really offer anything of value, other than being a good example of a bad review. When one enters a review that is entitled "FAIL", they expect to read about some kind of horrible catastrophe of a toy. Not only is the Quarter NOT that, but he basically proves through his photos and comments that it is anything BUT a "FAIL". Most schizophrenic review I've ever read.

Personally i dont like the design very much, but is just a question of taste. But it is a quality toy and very nicely made. It can even hold the guns and shield in battroid mode. It is not perfect but to call a toy like that a FAIL is not being coherent at all. But it is easy to tell that when reading the review.

Well, one thing the review was right about, you can't really play with it.
But crap if it doesn't look sweet on a shelf.

actually, how many of the SOCs, chogokin DX, Gundam Fixes (all from bandai incidentally) we collect these days are deemed "playable"?
The takatoku valkyries, various Popys, Godaikins pieces of old can be played without the fear of something popping out or snapped off and able to survive countless transformations or combination (albiet less articulate). Many of these toys are build like a tank and can survive a fair amount of abuses.
Modern toys (i'm basing my observations within the SOC and chogokin lines) on the other hand, tend to be more articulate and posable but more fragile, and in my opinion, are more of collectibles meant for display rather than playing with.
Yes, the smaller SOCs like the mazingers and getters can be deemed more playable mainly because they're simpler in build, but try transforming the lastest GFF unicorn gundam thru and fro from destroy and unicorn mode and you can count the number of pieces falling off or try transforming the chogokins DX messiah valkyries a couple of times, and fun will turn to frustrations, or simply tilt your gx-31v, gx-03 sideways and body parts starts falling off!
Dont get me wrong, these are great pieces (ok, mabbe gx-03 is not that great) and i love them dearly, but to expect them to be "playable" is truely unfair to these well engineered toys. The same applies to the macross quarter, which IMO is designed to sit pretty in the display cabinet and i seriously doubt it was designed for rough handling (or played around like the average toy) and is not something meant for a 10 year old as christmas gift!

Well it comes down to basic markets, SOC's, 1/60 Yamato's, DX VF-25's GFFF's and so one are not geared to the market where playability is a asset, the children's market. There just to expensive for that, it's a really delicate balancing act. Yes these are "toys" in the most basic term and must have some of the basics but really what they are, are collectible robots in toy form for adult collectors.
So I find it immensely amusing when a 30 something rough handles a toy complaining how it's not playable and more of a display piece when in fact that was what it was designed for and not for a bunch of adults trying to re-capture their youths and taking $$$ toys in the backyard and playing with them in the sandbox. You could but don't complain when a arm or something breaks off and then say how the old school version was better cuz it was sturdier because those WERE geared to kids.

I frequently grab mine, pose him, transform him, fly him around, turn him back into a robot, put him in suggestive positions with other large robot toys...and aside from the chest spike getting a stress mark from taking a 5-foot shelf dive (which was my fault) it's still just like new. I thought I was playing with it, maybe I'm wrong? Well, one thing the review was right about, you can't really play with it. But crap if it doesn't look sweet on a shelf.

Clearly, you are doing it wrong. Alright, it looks like I'm going to play with it old-school and drag it out to the sandbox, bury it, wait for a rain and then dig it up.

As much as I'd like to have them...I think Bandai won't be releasing anymore Quarter variants due to low sales. They've been on sale for 50 to 60% off at HLJ for the loooongest time and they still can't move em.

Best plan to get DX Quarter is to shop through Mandarake. Last time I visited Tokyo, they where plenty of them with cheap price at Nakano, Akihabara and Shibuya Stores. Try online store, easy and cheap with very good condition.
