Valkyrie Chronicles 2: Silmeria and Fallout 3 are trading off, depending on my mood.

While at home on break, away from my computer and systems, I've been playing "Professor Layton and the Curious Village". Rather fun and engrossing, considering it's basically a massive collection of puzzles. Layton was a good time. I'm looking forward to the next two...I believe the third just came out in Japan. I can't decide what to play next. I just beat Shadow Hearts on the PS2 for the first time. I've developed a huge backlog of stuff to play, and I'm kinda at a loss as to where to go from here. It's even worse since I'm mainly an RPG player these days, and each game ends up being a hundred-hour affair. Right now the list is: Persona 3 FES Shadow Hearts: Covenant Disgaea Phantom Brave Odin Sphere Xenosaga Xenosaga II Dark Cloud 2 IcoShadows of DestinyMGS3Portal MGS4 Folklore Lego Star Wars Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee! Metriod Prime: Echoes Baiten Kaitos: Origins LoZ: Phantom Hourglass NiGHTS Super Paper Mario Most of these are pretty old now. I guess I'm a sucker for discounted games -_- Any suggestions?

Persona 3 FES is BEYOND awesome, but should only be played if you're willing to dedicate ridiculous amounts of your time to it. Be prepared for your backlog to grow even larger if you choose it next. It hungers for your available time.
Ico is relatively short and probably worth playing next, because it'll be a fairly quick yet rewarding experience. If you like Metal Gear Solid games, MGS3 is also a great time to be had and full of nods and winks to the other MGS games. You should certainly play it before MGS4, at least.

I was kinda leaning toward ICO also. I've heard it's around 7-8 hours or so? I've been looking forward to P3FES for a while, but it's a little daunting, especially with such a huge queue built up already. I'm expecting about 80 hours for the main game, does that sound about right?
I've played the heck out of MGS and MGS2, but I never had the time for 3. I finally picked it up at Target for $10 on clearance a year or two ago, but I still haven't gotten to it. I barely started 4, but decided I really need to finish 3 first to be able to fully appreciate both.
Alright, I'm going to try to finish ICO by the end of the day tomorrow!

I hit around 96 hours on my first playthrough, but I did a bit of extra grinding and powerleveling to get some of the top tier abilities. 80-90 though is probably accurate. As another option, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is also great fun, although I found it to be not quite as good as the first one. Portal is in the same general boat as ICO; you can rip through it pretty quick but it's good fun all the while.

Sweet. I'm in the sewers now, just past the windmill.
I think I'll tackle Shadow of Destiny and Portal next. I'm trying to cram in as much as I can this week, before classes start up again on Monday.

Woo, ICO is down for the count. It was a little frustrating in the middle, but definitely worth in the end. The puzzles weren't really difficult, but somehow still intimidating. I guess that's a sign of really good worldbuilding.
Lets see if I can make it through Shadow of Destiny tomorrow...

If you liked Ico I suggest checking out Shadow of the Colossus, taking down giants is really fun combine it with puzzle like elements of Ico. It is more like a prequel of Ico.

If you liked Ico I suggest checking out Shadow of the Colossus, taking down giants is really fun combine it with puzzle like elements of Ico. It is more like a prequel of Ico. It's near the top of my list of games to buy. With such an absurd amount of unplayed games on my shelf, I can't justify buying any more until I make it though my backlog. Once I do though, Shadow of the Colossus is one of the first I hope to get! My "to get" list, in no particular order (some of these aren't even out yet): Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) Final Fantasy: Dissidia (PSP) Persona 4 (PS2) Kingdom Hearts RE:CoM (PS2) (I really liked the GBA version back in the day, so I'm looking forward to this quite a bit) Eternal Poison (PS2) Arcana Heart (PS2) Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Wii) Shadow Hearts: From the New World (PS2) Professor Layton #2 and #3 (DS) Miles Edgeworth: Perfect Prosecutor (DS) Ghostbusters (PS3) Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii) (Valkyrie Profile platforming+ Tales-series ish combat + Okami "painting come to life" aesthetic. Looking forward to it.) Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS) Infinite Space (DS) (Don't know a lot about this one yet, but I've got an eye on it) Ninjatown (DS) Flower, Sun, and Rain (DS) Again: Eye of Providence (DS) (It's a new game from Cing, the Hotel Dusk / Trace Memory people!) Needless to say, it's going to be a long time before I make it though all this. And the videogame budget is constantly battling the robot budget...what to do, what to do...

Currently playing Fall Out (PS3). Makes me very dizzy, but it's fun to blow some digital character's leg off and watch it squirm.

I always go back to lightgun shooters like House of the Dead 2 & 3 and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii. Or Time Crisis 4 on PS3. (Yeah, the FPS mode is lousy, but the classic arcade mode is still... eh... classic arcade mode. And that's a good thing.) I wish they'd get off their butt and make more games for the Guncon3. With the lightgun-less 360 and only TC4 on the PS3, it looks like the Wii is the way to go for this generation's gunslingers. I started playing The World Ends With You this weekend. It was fun, but I don't know why, I'm getting bored of it. Maybe it's that new partner you get later in the game... (snotty *@$%#...) I'll probably put it on standby for a while and move to something else. I have the bad habit of buying new titles even though I already have too many unplayed games gathering dust on my shelves. My backlog looks like this: PC - Far Cry 2 - Got it with my new video card. Didn't even know it was bundled with it. Nice surprise. - Flight Simulator X - I have to give it another try. I bought it last year with a nice little Saitek flightstick set and barely touched it because my previous dinosaurian PC would only run the game at low details. It did run it smoothly, but it didn't look good. Now, it looks great on my new PC. This is my initiation to the series. So far, it's fun. Quebec City looks like a national reserve, though. I'll have to fetch some add-ons to make it look more urban. As it is, it doesn't feel like home. And without familiar landmarks, landing a Boeing on the highway just isn't the same... ;D PS3 - Soul Calibur IV - - Resistance 2 - I liked the first one. This one doesn't look half bad either. - Ratchet and Clank Future - Got it bundled with my PS3 a year ago, but I haven't given it a chance yet. Looks fun. Xbox360 - Blue Dragon - It was cheap. Looked like a decent traditional japanese RPG. I'll have to give it a try someday. - Ninja Gaiden 2 - Go ninja go ninja go! - Mass Effect - Heard good things about it. Was cheap. I'll try and see. - The Orange Box - I finished Portal. I'm not much of an online player, so Team Fortress 2 is out, but I want to go through Half Life 2 and its add-ons. - Quake 4 - I played quite far into that game. I'll have to finish it someday. - Grand Theft Auto 4 - Wii - Shaun Whatshisname Snowboarding - To put that balance board to some use beside yoga. - Trauma Center : New Blood - I loved the first one. I have to play that one. I got it more than a year ago. I even gave a copy to my brother on Christmas. But, somehow, I never took the time to give it a real spin myself. I don't know why. - No More Heroes - Bloody yeah! Xbox - Steel Battalion - Tried it once, got blasted to oblivion the minute I managed to exit the hangar. Put it back in its box expecting to try again another day. Day which has yet to come. - Prince of Persia, the whole Sands of Time trilogy - I can't believe I haven't played these yet! PS2 - Personna 4 - This will be my first Shin Megami Tensei experience. It looks great, but I really don't feel like diving in a 40+ hour commitment. - Shadow of the Colossus - Finished it many times, and want to play it again... and again... and again. Can't wait for "Ico 3". GameCube - Resident Evil 0 - I finally got to finish Resident Evil (REmake) last month. Only with Chris. It was fun, but I don't feel like going through it again with Jill. Judging by the reviews, 0 isn't as good, but I still want to give it a shot before the 5th hits the shelves. - Alien Hominid - I have not given that game the mileage it deserves, not even near. ALL A bunch of Super Robot Wars and other games for various consoles I dug from bargain bins. What to get next: some good PS3 racing games. See... I bought that sweet 900 degrees wheel controller for the PS3, but I kind of forgot to get a game to go with it... Yeah... I know... I got F1 Championship. I'm sure it's fun with the wheel (no, I haven't tried it yet), but it's not really the best test for the 900 degrees feature. Hmmm... that post turned out longer than I expected. Let's call it a day. Final period. ;D

How is Guncon3, anyway? It's a new solution to the old problem of adapting light-guns to non-tube displays. I haven't tried it myself but I'd be willing to get it if you think it works well.
Right now my game-of-the-week is Dawn of War 2 (I got into the closed beta) - it's pretty neat and feels dramatically different from the first game (feels more like Company of Heroes, actually). Can't wait for the full game to come out.

The Guncon 3 works great. Very accurate. It might take some time to get used to it if you're used to hold the barrel with your left hand. You can't easily hold it like that anymore, since the left joystick block gets in the way. But single handed or holding it by the left grip, it's fine.
The cons I can think of:
- Not wireless. But I never had a wireless lightgun anyway, so it doesn't really bother me. Still, it would have been nice if they ditched the cord.
- Awkward left joystick grip. As I said earlier, I have to change my usual stance when I use that gun. That configuration could be great if one day a decent GC3-compatible FPS is released, but the FPS mode of Time Crisis 4 feels like an afterthought. It just isn't fun and I stick to the classing arcade on-rail shooter mode. Which means I never use that joystick and, to me, it's more annoying than anything.
- Orange. 99.9% orange. Not really a problem, I know. It doesn't affect gameplay. But... still... it's orange. The japanese version is black, but it's also more expensive. So I guess I'll just keep my money and try to get over the orangeness of the US ones.
- No Guncon / Guncon 2 compatibility. That was expected, but it would have been nice if it were backward-compatible with older titles. If you can play PS2 and PS1 games with a Dual Shock 3, I don't see why making Guncon1 and 2 games compatible with the Guncon 3 could not be done. Ok, I admit it, I don't know what I'm talking about. I have no idea how this machine really works under the hood, but something tells me Sony could fix that with a firmware update, but they just won't bother. They're ditching retro-compatibility altogether on newer models, why would they care about that niche? Too bad, it would have been nice to be able to play Rescue Shot Bubibo again.

I bet its for USA safety issues. They dont want little kids pointing with it at the streets and get shot ! It is. And it makes sense. But it's not only a bit of orange here and there, it's almost entirely screaming orange. The Zapper redesign had grey parts. The only parts that are not orange on the Guncon3 are the optics on the front, the FCC label and the cord. Other than that, it's the same orange tint all over. At first glance, it looks like something you'd find in a dollar store. It's not cheaply made, though. Quite sturdy. Sturdy ORANGE plastic. ;D As I said, that's not really a problem. You forget about it when you're playing. But I wish they'd just put and orange tip on the barrel, like they did with the first Guncon.
