The CM's has the armguards come off, which the Beagle has on hydraulics, so it's slightly less PT than the Beagle. The Beagle looks absolutely incredible, I have to say. It's so tempting to get one... so tempting...

Holy crap, you're right about the arm guards... that's just amazing.

Jenius' review is up now (has been for a couple of days): anymoon.com/blog/2009/01/26/beagle-110-mospeada-vr-21-ride-armor-toynami-masterpiece-cyclone/It really does look swank, but to be completely honest I still like the overall look of CMs better than any of the other offerings. I know it's fiddley and small, but out of all of them it's the only one with overall proportions that I like. Here's how I rank them (be prepared to call the funny farm and dispatch them to my home): CM's Gakken (the large one, I forget the scale) Megahouse/Beagle tied Matchbox/Robotech non-transforming 1/18 scale Gakken (the small one) I honestly can't ever see myself getting the Beagle, mainly because I don't love the Ride Armor enough to hand over that much cash for...but also because I'm oddly content with the CM's Ride Armor. And I am fully aware that I'm probably the only person who has ever existed or ever will exist to have that opinion.

Those gentlemen outside with the white coats? They want to give you a new jacket. You'll like it! You'll be hugging yourself all the time! You'll never feel unloved again!
I was almost tempted to pick up a CM's Hoquet but I haven't heard of anyone who picked it up that didn't have some sort of problem with it, which didn't inspire confidence.
With regards the Beaglenami release, IF I get one, I'll definitely wait for the Toynami version, and even then I'll have to see if I can't find it on sale. I like ride armors and all, but for $200+ they just aren't high enough on my "to buy" list to eke out everything else on there.

I think each of the CM's Ride Armor releases has some sort of problem. The windscreen hasn't broken off of my Stig yet, but that's because I'm supremely careful with it. Even if it does break off, a dab of glue will put it back on with no visible scar and probably fasten it better than it originally was.
Aside from loving the sculpt and proportions, I just really love the tiny Microman scale of the set and the fact that it's still mostly PT. It's a little marvel. Hell, I even like the candy-like quality of the green plastic.
All that said, I would never, ever recommend one to anyone. The chances of someone being happy with it are pretty slim. It just happens to slot perfectly into one of the (many) defective folds in the pleasure-center of my brain.

It's a pretty cool piece, I think you'll like it. Fiddly as HELL though on the first transform.

Which one is better? Beagle or Toynami?

They're the same toy, with the exception of the headsculpt. And the packaging. Personally, I think the packaging on the Toynami is nicer. the headsculpt I don't really like on either, but when you put the helmet on, it's all irrelevant.
The beagle apparently has problems with the helmeted head being really loose, as well. The Toynami doesn't have this problem (BETTER QC ON A TOYNAMI? THIS IS MADNESS!)

The first transformation really is tricky, I spent probably 20 minutes on it. I'm having a problem with the display stand when he's in armor mode. I can't seem to really get a real connection and he's just sort of leaning on it. Does anyone know if there's a trick to it?
Other than that, I really like this release. Love the bike, especially the tires.

To actually connect the armor to the support takes almost excessive force. The grey plastic part on the armor is shaped like -[==]- and the two outer tabs slide into the stand that's shaped like [___]. There's a lip on the stand clip (you can see it if you look, the edges hook inward quite drastically) there that you REALLY have to force to get around.
The stand is useful if you disconnect it from the base and use it as a "third leg". That way you can display the ride armor standing even when not on the base. Otherwise he's basically going to be in a "midair" pose.

Thanks for the tip, quinjester. I think I will leave him in the standing position. When I get the Rand I plan to display it in armor cycle mode next to this one.

** CAUTION *** EXCESSIVE PHOTOSTREAM INCOMING ARMOR MODEStick? Stig? Scott? Whoever you call him, he looks AWESOME. ... Unfortunately, as you can see here, he practically requires a "third leg", care of the detachable stand arm, to keep upright. ... and it's no surprise why he needs it, with a backpack like that (which has most of the bike's mass in it, with all the folding and compressing that goes on). Fortunately, it's pretty much unnoticeable except from the rear, though. The dark color blends in well and the tripod extension is easily ignored considering how much other stuff is going on with this guy. Thanks to the tripod leg, he's a breeze to pose, though. His "open palm" hands double as both his "handlebar holding hands" and all purpose "gripping random objects he can squish his fingers into" hands, thanks to being made from a soft rubber. A look at the "hydraulic" mounting arm that connects the missile launchers to the arm gauntlets. It's a really cool idea, but getting everything in place for transformation is a huge pain, and the handlebars (which are attached to the end of the whole assembly) are constantly going to war with the tires. ... I don't know about you, but I don't think I'd be comfortable wearing this armor suit. That metal "hook" under the crotch would rack you something fierce. Hopefully Scott/Stick is wearing metal reinforced undies. The FigureThe base figure looks really nice as long as you don't look too closely at the cloth the joints are covered in. The stuff is REALLY cheap feeling, and if I had any sewing talents at all I'd be seriously looking into making something out of thin pleather or something similar. Ah well. He's got these ... cylinder things. They plug into the cycle's "fuel tank". They're energy packs, I presume. I ... uh... haven't actually watched Mospeada. The much maligned head. Personally? I like it more than the thin-lipped Beagle version. When it comes down to it, 9 times out of 10 you're probably going to be posing this figure with the helmet on so it doesn't even matter. The BikeOh right! There's a bike in here too. It may be crazy, but I honestly think I like displaying this set with the figure and bike separate and untransformed. The bike looks really great. If I get another one (only if they do a different bike style though, such as Yellow or Hoquet's), then maybe I'll reconsider, but I think I'll keep my set like this for the time being. ... plus, it gives other people the opportunity to pretend to be Biker gods. One side has a kickstand. Surprise surprise. The other side has mounting holes for ... A gun! How to turn Sunday Morning road-rage into something on the five o'clock news! Nice exhaust. Believe it or not, I had an easier time getting Animated Waspinator to ride the bike than Stick/Scott, but that was before I gave up on trying to use the footrests and just pulled his legs up and as tight to the body of the bike as possible. Hey, he's got armored boots on, right? He wont lose any toes or anything. Sorry for the darkness of some of the photos. I only have one light and it's on a very short plug, eheh
