I am close to done. I have a paper due before midnight, so I will likely finish mine tomorrow afternoon. My only fear is my scanner might not pic of the light details.

Thats what I had to do on the sketch. I am sure I can get a lot of the lines to come out, but they might loose some of their nice graphite tone when they do.

I really can't get it to fit in the scanner. I took a photo. I might take another in the morning when the light is better. I might also make a few tweaks tonight. Its graphite and stamped ink with some bronze ink sponged on.

I would suggest putting a parchment texture on top to make it look old. I know back in school people used to soak their art in tea... and burn the edges off.. but eek.. I'm a wuss I wouldn' dare to do that. awesome stuff

So is he based on anything, or an original design? I'm getting some steampunk'd Brocken vibes... Either way, very cool! (Brocken reference:) For my part...I hate to say it, but I'm lagging (hah?) behind in getting anything done with my steampunk Gurren Lagann. The deadline is the Sunday before finals for me, so I've really got to get cracking! All I've done so far are a few half-assed doodles off the top of my head. I'm starting to get close to what I'm looking for on Gurren's face/the torso, but it still needs to change more from the original. Miles to go. Forgive the preliminary crappiness!

Well, I drew up another 'draft' today. I still haven't really figured out what to do with the arms at all. I'm not happy with Lagann's face yet...I tried continuing the blue lines under the eyes straight down, but it made him look a lot like Big O in a Gurren Lagann costume...so I still have to tinker with it. On top of all that there are some perspective issues...it's a good thing there are still a few weeks left! Any comments/criticisms/suggestions would be very welcome! Face concept (I think it looks better in this drawing than the one on the full body...)

oh pretty sweet Cyrano! Hmm you know if helps before when I used to draw more on paper.. since you've already scanned it. and alot of your drawing is already blocked in. After scanning I would take it into photoshop. got to Hue Sauturation andchange the lines blue(make sure you check "colorize"). It will turn your lines blue.. then either print it out.. or make 4-6 thumbnails on the page. And just redraw on top to fool around with pose.. or tighten the figure. It makes me less fearful if i want to try something new on the pose or whatever.. and I find I'm a bit quicker that way. Plus its a easier if you want to ink it later.
and after when you rescan you can remove the blue lines by going to the alpha channel select the "blue Channel" and go to - edit mode- black and white. Poof clean black white lines.. no more blue.

Poof clean black white lines.. no more blue. That's some awesome advice! I was kinda concerned about finishing it...I'm toying with using charcoal and a touch of watercolor, but that's kinda high-risk The only downside is that the drawing is kinda big right now (around 12") so I'd have to find a printer with 11*17 paper (or something along those lines)...but I bet the Fine Arts building here has something. I'll investigate on Monday! Because drawing is more fun than writing essays, I decided to doodle Kamina and Simon for the steampunk GL continuity... Simon kinda sucks, but that's the price I pay for using a writing pen. C'est la vie.
