Awesome toy (and review)! I've seen this before on ebay, but it was always pretty pricey. It looks like they did a pretty good job making it. Its definitely nice to see a detailed review of this, especially since I doubt I'll ever have the chance to own one.

Some of the more fascinating variants are in the Taiwan LionBots. There are 4 belt buckle variants I have seen: 1) Standard Star 2) Upside down Star 3) Diamond shape 4) V shape - On this version the blue lion also has whisker marks both on it's cheeks and beside the nose and ridged white areas in it's back. I find the Korean bootlegs to be even more fascinating even though they are plastic... I'll be posting a video review real soon comparing it to the normal diecast version, so stay tuned EDIT: and here it is! Hey chachipower, how much did you pay for yours? and where did buy did you get it from? I'm kind of curious to see how much the price difference for taiwan knockoff vs the korean

Hey chachipower, how much did you pay for yours? and where did buy did you get it from? I'm kind of curious to see how much the price difference for taiwan knockoff vs the korean The Korean versions are damn hard to find. In the past 10 years Ive only come across 2 and I own them both. I got em on ebay. I cant imagine these cost much new in Korea since they are plastic, although the packaging is high quality... maybe someone has come across these in the past. I got mine on ebay.. the first I got like 8 years ago and I think I paid 60 and the last one I paid less than 80 so I may have been ripped or gotten them cheap, I dont know.. there is not enough info on them. I have basically set the market value myself haha.. I paid that because I am a huge fan. If you are not a big fan, you may be better off getting the diecast version for a few bux more. I have tons of Voltron stuff, toothbrushes, table covers, stickers and robots, so this was a must have for me. A casual collector may not want to pay more than 40 bux for it its "plastickiness" knowing the Toynami version is awesome and cheap

There are also a couple blister carded Korean knockoffs out there.

.... in fact if I hadn't forgotten to bid on the auction, that one you reviewed might have been mine! lol .. that would have been one mean bidding war! I bought this one specifically for the video review and because this was in slightly better condition than my other one. Also, I don't know if its readily apparent in the vid, but the plastic molding on this set is great. very sharp as if they made this knockoff from scratch to the same dimensions. I've paint-stripped the diecast version before and the casting is sloppy. this however has ultra smooth plastic wit sharp edges and no gaps. I love it

dang it.. missed it.. but probably for the better... 180 seems like a lot for a plastic version!

Do you have any of the Dairugger KO's? Not the one on the card but the boxed set ones that I think were quite high quality.

I had one when I started collecting. I have to admit, the quality is pretty good, but it just didn't look right when formed into voltron. The best part of it is the box, and all the accessories. The toy looks a lot better presented in the box in separate lion forms than it does as a robot. It's kind of disappointing how the shoulders on the black lion don't line up properly with the chest when in robot mode, and would probably look a little less cheap if the toes on the lions weren't painted white.

chen- No i do not, I had a winning bid going and backed off for some reason. I may eventually pick one up since I dig knockoff Voltrons. Rayar- I almost was gonna say I dont know what you mean by not lining up, but you are right, the shoulders dont line up, I wonder why it was sculpted this way... I mean the fit and finish is great, it just seems more like a sculpting mistake...also they werent detailed red. Below is a picture of what your talking about for those of you that dont know (the knockoffs lions legs were left alone in epics so I dont screw up the chrome, so normally they fold like the normal diecast version.)

Overall the quality wasn't great. The one thing that was cool were the little white plastic clips that hold the vehicles together. The original clips that come on the Popy ones often become brittle and break. Once that happens you can sometimes no longer seperate the vehicles. The KO ones are actually sturdier and make perfect replacements. The same goes for the white clips on the #15 chest jet. One other cool feature of the KO Dairugger is the fists are all black and and ambidexterous. And the fit the Popy perfectly. Overall they were kinda goofy looking with their bizzare color scheme, but as far as molding is concerned it was pretty dead on. The best of those KOs has got to be Frankenbot. That one was a force to be reckoned with. I know somebody here has to have that one. It was part Omega Supreme, part Dairugger and just a mish mash of a few other bots.

i finally got to snag an authentic golion in yahoo japan auctions. i am going through the toy and it seems i need to do a minor replacement for a part, is it wise to use a lionbot part to replace the japanese version? the chrome ring on the black lion shoulder is somewhat faded and i want it replaced (see pic)
