Lemme guess which one is the knockoff:
the one with the chrome face!
They both look good regardless of their
features. Those shoulders do look kinda off;
so I'm assuming it is a sculpt error.
But then, even little things like that are what
make knockoffs so unique and fun to spot. ;D

i finally got to snag an authentic golion in yahoo japan auctions. i am going through the toy and it seems i need to do a minor replacement for a part, is it wise to use a lionbot part to replace the japanese version? the chrome ring on the black lion shoulder is somewhat faded and i want it replaced (see pic) I have found that the chrome quality on the Lionbots actually holds up better than the Bandais/Popys, particularly on the Lions' legs. So you may have to replace all four of the gold trim rings on the Black Lion so that they match up to each other. I would suggest using a late-90's "modern" Lionbot because you can get them still unused in the box. Also they have the gold chrome trim there whereas some earlier Lionbots had silver chrome rings, or non-chrome yellow rings. |

I've always wanted an authentic golion! I have tons of spare parts that are new (parted out like 5 new trendmasters voltrons for new parts when they came out), Just not sure about that ring. Nice set! The real score there of course is the chrome middle, and tails of the red & green lions.
Something you don't notice until one is in your hands is that the outer box lid logo, is raised/embossed gold leaf textured. NOt just flat printed graphics on the box. SO cool.
Oh, yeah, and the tons of extra little tech specs all along the edges of the inner window lid.
If you can stand it, keep it original man. Great condition set. Just enjoy.

@glane - the only bootleg i got is the diamond buckle, 80s version  chachipower - thanks for the help  repairtechjon - yeah actually that is what i am debating in my mind right now, either to replace the part or just keep it as is.  the outer box cover is indeed one of the best aspects of the original golion, the effect is it's something really exclusive, precious.. royal. ;D |

I don't care if it wasn't that popular, it is now. Vintage stuff prices are high, its bootlegged like crazy so the demand is there. I can see it now.. Box will harken back to the Popy one.. rocket punch will be in full effect, even for leg lions..there will be a plastic piece to recreate the effect when he forms blazing sword... he will be about as tall as Zambot and proportionally in between the popy version and the toynami version. It will have all the neat little gimmicks the anime did. Alternate face with open mouth, Maybe even the lion legs will optionally come off to recreate the clean look of the transformed robot where instead of legs its circles.. all lions will have weapons.. basically a much better version than the toynami MPC but slightly smaller and more detailed. DX version will come with the winged lion statue that hides black lion inside sorta like the SOC Raideen mountain thing. I hope this will come true. You guys thought I freaked with the announcment of Daitarn.. If I win the lottery I will start a company to build the Golion (and other cool robots who don't have a modern version of themselves) of my dreams and I will sell it limited edition style bwahaha |

yeah I mean I nearly fell over when I found aout the masterpiece version years ago.. tall, slender AND lotsa diecast YES!! but after that wore off, I was left wanting gimmicks.There isn't any at all! at least the stand comes with the weapons if it ever even gets released. |

b) Or is it the white background popy sticker with red letters in the same body part?

uh i dunno if this is the right category but just wanna know how do you detach the lions?  ? couldnt find the popy so i got a lionbot for the meantime. Anybody know how to "volt em out" any advice would be appreciated. |

Hi Popy included an extra little diagram sheet showing the angled pull used to pop off the arm lions tails from the black lion shoulders.
Otherwise you have to open the black lion shoulder panel, and unfold the black lions chrome paw out of the way, & find the edge of the wire spring clip inside holding into the red or green lion tail groove, and get a small hook or pick tool in there to pull up in outer spring edge to help release it. May need a bright light to see in there
