Yeah, proportionally it's pretty ugly to me. I'm sure it's all very accurate to the show's design, but if that's the case then I don't like the show design (and I loved the look of the Hi-Metal 19's, which were more like Yamato's own YF-19 in terms of shape and look)

If I had one in hand I may think differently. Just from taking a close look at the pics there is a lot of paint chipping around the figure. Also the screws are sorely obvious in side the leg panels holding the "missiles" in place. I haven't watched the anime so I don't have any love for this color scheme. Anyway that aside , it looks like it can't hold Gerwalk mode without the clear plastic support on the nose . Also it doesn't look like theres a locking mechanism for the nose cone in battroid mode. So just like the Macross Plus YF-19 it could be a floppy mess. That to me is a shame. I'll stick to the 1/100 Hi Metal version.

Yeah, let's all rag on the hand painted preproduction version.
I'm glad I passed on the parts forming half arsed Hi-Metal.

true this looks like a preproduction model the real version will be color plastic and not painted like this, so the paint chips will not be present i like what i see so far i also like the fact that it comes with the masked face i never liked the fact that it had a mouth, i love the fact that the cockpit in the back section is openable , though i hope the leg missiles are fixed they look ugly

Maybe I'm in minority here, but I love the design. sure it's a bit stocky but that's how it was in the show.
You can't expect perfect paint and self supporting on a pre-preduction model. I think Yamato did a super job on this one. I just hope it won't have floppy limbs.

Yeah, let's all rag on the hand painted preproduction version. I'm glad I passed on the parts forming half arsed Hi-Metal. . Why on earth people feel like the ONLY way they can show their support for one toy is to sh*t on another is beyond me. The day people don't pass judgement on Macross toys based off of grainy prototype photos will be a great day for the hobby, but one that is far, far away I'm afraid. I'm sure it'll be Yamato's standard fantastic finish once it's done (though it'll be interesting to see if they go gloss instead of their usual satin). I don't care for the proportions that they've gone with, sadly, but maybe their Blazer will pull it off better.

I know it's been said that the VF-19 chassis in 1/60 scale is "the right size" because it's simply larger than the VF-1. But I'm looking at it and thinking to myself - I would just be happier if they could engineer this thing in full 1/48. Heck they managed the pop-up shoulder speakers, the rocket packs in the legs and even the pilot hatch in the back of the Battroid mode... Yet... after all that... it's still a part-former for its head. Yes, I'm being picky.

In addition to the Sound Booster Yamato is also making Speaker Pod Gamma. That's bad ass.

Not to hi-jack the thread but... OMG - did anybody else go back to the Yamato blog this week? somebody did a 1/3000 scale VF-1 to go with the SDF-1!!! Hmm... that Speaker Pod Gamma is making this Fire Valkyrie seem more and more like the 1/12 Scopedogs... I'll have fun playing dress-up with my mecha - nevermind me in the corner here!

Reminds me of how much nicer looking the YF-19 is than the fire valk It's too bad the YF-19's toy wasn't that great. Oh well.

The VF-19 looks like a superior toy to the YF-19 but I think I prefer the YF-19 design over it, also isn't the VF and YF suppose to be the same size in Batroid mode?

That does indeed look a little odd. But one can only assume that within continuity, the chassis on the final production-version VF-19 got smaller to correct a problem on the YF-19 prototype... Not unlike a toy-prototype being sculpted larger than the final product. Actually... I wonder it's listed anywhere in my collection of Macross Chronicle... Hmm...

I love how that guy isn't afraid and shows full confidence in the product he's representing: he practically man-handles the VF-19 - I'd be afraid to fumble with my own Yamato figures like that. Also we get to see that the head is not a parts-former the way I thought it would be. The antennae and fin are right there even in GERWALK mode. Cool. The more I see of this guy, the more I want one. Oh and by the way, I wasn't able to find a profile for YF-19 in my collection of Macross Chronicle so I can't compare the fictional stats. VF-19 Kai was featured in issue 6 but I don't have the issue where YF-19 appeared.

The YF-19 and VF-19 are supposed to be the same height. Yamato made the YF-19 waaaay too tall and leggy.
