are there any news that hasbro or takara will release mp-09 without the trailer? Supposedly Hasbro will release him that way as another TRU exclusive. Toy Fair starts Feb 13, we'll probably get confirmation there. Sagat - Yeah, pics aren't working. Probably the only reason you can see them is because they're still loaded in your cache from going to the blog. I found the blog, but I can't find the pics. Emerje

For those of you having problems transforming him into vehicle mode. I've made a video that shows its actually quite easy to do so.

I got mine today! I didn't have much time to play with it because I had to head to work. Few things I did notice about mine are only one gun snaps on and the other barely stays on, and the backpack white/grey latch won't fit over the tab it needs to look onto his back, not a big deal because it doesn't fall over and it's probably just a alignment issue. I LOVE this figure though! Looks so awesome with the matrix from MP1. I haven't noticed any issues in my feet springs, but I haven't transformed him yet. If Hasbro releases a no trailer version and fixes these issues I'll buy another to display rodimus and hot rod

Yep, it'll certainly be marketed as Masterpiece Hot Rodimus or whatever instead of Rodimus Prime with the RP mode as a special feature since everything for the bot mode is right there. I'm willing to bet that Takara will also release a stand alone Hot Rod next year, too.

watching this at the moment While some of the complains are legit, this guy let emotion took over at some point, losing quite a bit of credibility to me. "Transformation from Hot Rod to Rodimus Prime with the face lift is just dump! Its stupid!"(not in exact words)... If its that bad, I don't know why he would buy it in the first place. But knowing this is a very delicate piece, I'll pay attention to all the areas that have issues. Looks like its a Takara branded piece with Yamato valk flaws and delicacy. Its too bad. Mine looks great out of the box, but I can see the chest and backpack not locking well already. I managed to get the backpack clip in, bu the grip is a little shallow for a very secure lock, but it works for now. Wonder if I should even bother transforming him.

One thing I can say about Rodimus without transforming it yet, is that the bot mode is really sweet. Just handle it as a robot figure, the joints designs are really nice. Swivels are firm and tight, ratchets are strong and abundant everywhere, and best of all....ratchet ankles! All figures with ratchet ankles automatically get 2+ points from me LOL, as stability is the key. While the backpack and chest don't lock well, and the hands aren't the best desigined to hold the guns (hands fixable with super glue trick), its really a pretty well made robot. Very poseable and very stable with the ankles and diecast feet. While I can foresee some frustrations trying to transform it or have some paint scratches, I find myself enjoying it so far. Its more interesting than the seekers & Grimlock (but Grimlock is better built and much easier to handle), and prettier than Megatron or even Prime. But they might have over-engineered this dude, making the transformation a bit too complex and causes small parts to break easy.

Much better review by peaugh. He doesn't complain as much. I will reserve judgement on this one until I actually own this. Unless this one goes on a big sale, I will probably wait until the hasbro release. After seeing the reviews, I really want to get this just so I can try the transformation.
Found another review of this figure, but let me warn you about this reviewer, while I find him funny, most people would probably be offended.
You can see that his guy is pretty rough on the figure and has done the transformation a couple of times and not have stuff break. I think the the other reviewers like optibotimus and the other guy who didn't even show us how his was broken during transformation just got defects.

From what I can tell and experienced, its kind of a lemon. This one could very well be an excellent MP, topping all the previous ones on the design and aesthetics. But the execution and QC really hurt it in many obvious areas, causing buyers remorse on a number of collectors. While I have plenty experience with Yamato valks, I can handle the delicacy of the structure. But some common parts came stressed or cracked out of the box (leg black side panel), and the very low tolerance of certain very thin tabs. Some locking tabs not locking well. Guns also don't stay in the hands securely, and alignment is very tricky to get it right with knowledge of people's feedback and pics on forum. I can totally see someone breaking the thing, as careful as they are, when they solely based on the instruction manual alone.
Given, some of the small flaws can be fixed or avoided, its still jarring to have Takara overlooked so many little things. The transformation is almost as finicky as MP Megatron, a little better once you know all the quirks. But just like Megatron, I wouldn't label it as a piece of crap by any means. Some fixes applied, and it can still be a very enjoyable piece. But for someone expecting a perfectly executed $200 toy, this is not for you.

I just got mine today and man, the first thing i have notice is the plastic. It looks so cheap. I would say that the plastic they have used is different from the previous Master Piece. Hot Rod's headlights were glued poorly. I can see the glue marks around it. One of the tail light is missing a paint. I see a couple of stress marks on the plastic. If you really don't careful playing it, it will easily break. That's how bad the plastic is. I feel bad because it is really a good toy but the quality is not a Master Piece. Too many quality issues. I paid ¥13,000 ($145) not including shipping. Don't buy this toy more than $150.

That sucks to know! I'm still waiting on a pic of Rodimus next to Grimlock next to a iGear Prime but honestly I think I may wait till the Hasbro version comes out, this may be the first MP release I skip. I think to get the four different modes Takara sacrificed durability for engineering, it probably would have been a much better toy if it could just transform from Rodimus to truck mode and skip the whole Hot Rod mode but I guess that's the problem when you have a character as important as Rodimus but with the popularity of Hot Rod. If it's like Megatron then I guess it'll be all right, I love my Megatron chicken legs and all and found you can really manhandle it to get things to fit without worry of breaking it. But if the tolerances on Rodimus are that thin with "cheaper" plastic then for me he's gonna be displayed in robot mode and staying that way. One last beef but I HATE articulated fingers, sure they look nice but they can't hold a gun for crap. I much rather have optional pre-formed hands that can hold a gun or whatever securely, Bandai does this for their SOC line and even Yamato does it with their Macross figures.
