I see junior robot S_Gokin is trying his best here, but sorry, junior, you have to go through this thread from page #1 till its mids so you could learn which super robot in Go Nagai's World is the leader of all. I am serious cuz I will not repost what I already posted here before. By the way, change your avatar photo, why are you using the weakest mecha image among Nagai's Mazinger canon? King Gori ripped Dizer's arm ... Imagine what Gori could have done to the Mazin tin cans before Grendizer slashes him into 2 halves? As I said, you are trying hard but you need to read and learn, jr. Ciao. Yup ... this is the problem with newbs ! all the time! they like the new lights and all the colorfull SFS and a beam that cut planets in halfs and monsters getting blowen away with one attack !! they get over excited easily! Didnt you got cornered by me 2 posts ago and you said you agreed with me you are just jealous of the new mazingers my friend i know you wish grendizer can do the same but sadly he can’t LOL, you just got cornered AGAIN by a newb

D7, time to wipe away your tears. No need to say more, since the proof is in the puddin'. Is best to walk away with fond memories of Grendizer, before Mazinkaiser came to light... Manga Grendy took a Great Mazinger sword all the way down its shoulder too. So, in terms of cutting each other, Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and Grendizer are all even. Not so much with Mazinkaiser. Oh, and remember, Grendizer's destroyed arm was rebuilt with the same alloy Great Mazinger and Mazinger Z had. }D

I haven't read all the SMZ mangas, but I did see a scene where they showed Grendizer (probably coming up in the future). I agree that we should keep personal feelings out, ,and not make wishful thinking assumptions for our favorite characters. I suggest we just stick to manga, anime, and OVAs for reference, not made up infomation never ever seen in either of the three mentioned before. }D

One of these days we should create the Getter Canon thread some interesting things and discussions might pop up. Go for it! }D Thanks for the support TMZ but before opening that thread, I need to do something. I consider myself as a Getter Robo fan. I watched some classic super robot cartoons and Getter Robo was one of the most enjoyable of the bunch. Loved the mecha design, loved the story characters. But a true fan should possess knowledge of all the works, the shows, the movies and the comics in which that robot appears. I still need to learn more about the Getters. It won't take much, hopefully. Only then I will create the Getter Canon thread I'll also need to read this Mazinger Canon thread, preferably from the beginning, to see how it evolved, so I can have an idea about the general discussion topic for the Getter one to come

I started this Mazinger Canon thread with a simple question, in fact, about their heights...then, as you'll see a lot of Robot-Japanese (members) added tons of info in addition to what I know that I didn't know before! Just do it, Gettaaaa man!

So I've finally started re-watching Shin Mazinger Z - it was the first Mazinger anime I watched, most likely because 1) it was the shortest, 2) it was the only one available with proper subs at the time, and 3) I wanted to make an objective opinion of it then and not compare it to shows that had preceded it.
I know one thing I like about Shin Mazinger...although I think Mazinkaiser already did it first...was using the MANGA design for Count Brocken. I HATED the stupid vampire teeth and crappy eyelashes they gave him in the 70's anime! I didn't even like the voice actor!

Actually if you didn’t watch the original show you should watch it because shin Mazinger z isn’t comparable to the original, yea the first 5 episodes are great but then you will lose your passion for it & just watch it unlike the original show, don’t get me wrong it’s a great show but not as great as the original even with the awful subtitles & the wrong translation lol

Another thing I missed out that Shin Mazinger picked up from the manga that the 70's series just left out entirely; Inspector Ankokuji! Granted, I think the manga just kind of ignored him too after the initial chapter or two, but he at least stuck around as a meaningful character all the way up until the end in Shin.
Yes, I've finished Shin, but this time I decided to leave the first episode last - the way the actual final episode ended...I'm actually not surprised why I picked up the original anime immediately afterwards - an ending like that could have only left me craving for more, and hell, it still did, and this time I actually knew what was going to happen!
I agree tho, it's a totally different experience when you're actually familiar with the characters - the first time around I was in the cold. I would say that is actually better on this second viewing. If there's anything about Shin Mazinger Z I didn't like, I think it was Imagawa getting a bit too deep into his love for ridicilous plot twists. They actually become really difficult to follow near the end.

You know the best thing about the classic robots shows even after 40 years you can watch it and really enjoy it There certainly is an element of nostalgia for some of us, people who grew up watching Mazinger Z, Grendizer or other super robot shows... Well, if we're talking classic SR cartoons, let's be objective: many of them were full of fillers, episodes and episodes of robot fights which didn't really add anything to the story. Let's look at the Mazinger Z anime as an example: 92 episodes, a pretty long show, understandable since it was sooo popular back then. It took me weeks to watch all 92 of those episodes, man... I am not saying I didn't enjoy the show, I really liked it in fact. But you know, important events only happen in, what, 15 episodes more or less? Death of good and bad characters, introduction of new ones, upgrades to Mazinger Z, new pilder, Dianan A, Boss Borot, and the last episode. Probably less than 20 episodes worth of story. But the cartoon is 5 times longer, I grew sick of Baron Ashura apologizing every time to Dr. Hell, hehe. But I liked the show in the end. If you manage to understand how people made shows, and how people watched shows back then, 92 episodes is pretty forgivable, it's just hard to find the time to watch 'em all I had an easier time with shorter, plot-dense robot shows, Zambot 3 comes to mind. Also, it depends on how much you like a certain robot, its fighting style, its music...

Also, it depends on how much you like a certain robot, its fighting style, its music... Hello MF For me I was a robots fan since I was a kid so I watched most of the important shows lol, for classic shows like Mazinger z it’s the longest show of all the classics shows and its enjoyable to watch even by today standers Go Nagai really put his efforts to make it look good and every episode was related to the main story every time Dr.Hell get really close to destroy the photon lab and in some episode he almost destroyed Mazinger z, also with Grendizer unveiling Duke Fleed Past and watching his old friends it was really catching and awesome to watch I can’t say the same about Great Mazinger honestly there was a lot of empty episodes that make you say really come on why are you doing this? viewers got super bored that’s why they put Mazinger z in the show I just watched Tōshō Daimos the story was really well made and the focus wasn’t on robots fights there was other interesting events just to make the viewers hocked, in my opinion I think it’s the best story in the Romantic Trilogy, I tried to watch Voltes V but I couldn’t because it’s looks like a copy of Combattler V no offence to the fans of course but it’s the same idea with the same concept i hope i find time to watch the Getters

Voltes V is way better than Combattler V, dude. Combattler V is the epitome of MOTW - Voltes has an actual plot going on for it. It even has foreshadowing!
You know, I had never seen any of these super robot shows when I was a kid. Hell, I never even saw Transformers until I was almost 20. So for me, nostalgia has very little to do with it. In fact, after Transformers, the first mecha show I ever actually watched was the original Gundam series - and that was in 2011!
