Is it still getting made or what? I've been putting off getting the Alpha's until I know 100% that this thing is coming out.

Hmmmm... lemme see.
- The Beta prototype was posted here last quarter of 2005.
- The colored prototype pictures from a convention was posted around December or January.
- The last post on the "Toynami Beta Tred" thread was March 2006.
Looks like Toynami is pulling another "Masterpiece Voltron" on us. They'll probably make us wait a year and a half to get this thing out. feh....

Well, it's not the worst thing in the world if it's not released this year. There have been so many expensive things being released this year--Voltus, Macross VF-0S, Masterpiece Starscream, etc. My wallet needs a break.

I'm betting that Toynami discovered that the cost of making a diecast Beta at that size and still keeping the price reasonable would be quite hard. I'm sure they could offset the cost with multiple re-colours though.

I for one (although I'd like to see a beta toy made) am not very excited. Given Toynami's track record on quality control..................

Yeah, major turn-off... I was very interested in buying an alpha some time ago, but held off because of the QC issues I read about everywhere. I'm not exactly near anyplace that has an Alpha for sale, so if I got a faulty item, the return shipping and re-sending would cost as much as the thing... bummer Anyway, enough with my whining, I hope they better their QC with the Beta... As far as I've read, toynami bettered their QC with the Masterpiece Voltron, so why not do the same with the Beta? Hell, if the result is a good toy, I wouldn't mind waiting :-)

A Friend from MW and I went to AX and met with George Sohn. owner of Toynami. apparently the Beta is most likely NOT going to be made. too expensive and blah blah blah. I think Toynami is on a string bdget that they cant afford or get the capital to invest in making it. Also Alpha sales arent that great.
so now they are focusing on their 1/100 scale line. supposedly there is something like 26 variation that will be made including Ostrich and elintseeker.
He did say they ran a poll on RT.com and from that results the Beta MIGHT be a non transforming statue in fighter mode that attaches to the MPC.

Nope. Solscud is right. There is speculation that the BETA might be a non-transforming statue in eithe plane or bot mode (or one in each). These are just speculations, but I was there at AX for the discussion with George Sohn.

Same here. I wouldn't buy it if it was just a non-transforming statue. Defeats the purpose. Might as well just get a couple of those bookends.

With Toynami, a safe bet is what they show at the cons. if it's still shown (like MPC VOLTON) then a safe bet it's coming out at some point.
it's so sad to see this thread come back but with disapointing news.
it's a huge shame they won't make it. what a buzz-kill to Alpha fans who really want this piece. People will buy a beta MPC, no matter what the price. i'd easily buy 2, one MIB and one for the shelf.
do they even watch what Yamato does at all? almost ALL the 1/60 valks are available on ebay for pretty reasonable prices... the big selling point on the MPC was that they had the "little extras" Yamato has for its products (pilots, rolling wheels etc), chunky monkey scale, and the box.
hey, Toynami, i can smell a stinker a mile away, and re-using your Macross super-posable molds and trying to charge me $20 for those poor QC Banpresto valks again is NOT going to a) get you a profit or b) win you any new devotees.

I'm one of those guilty of killing the Toynami Beta project. Toynami was pretty straight forward even before the announcement of the Beta - they said up front that sales of the Alpha were pretty much going to help determine if the Beta would ever be developped - and on the other hand, folks like me were at the other end of the infinite loop saying, "I'll buy an Alpha if they promise to make a Beta."
At this point I'm even less and less likely to buy a Beta. I think the ultimate irony is that Toynami might have boosted Alpha sales if they'd just lied about the whole thing and promised a Beta to begin with - it'd be no different than many of those toy catalogues we used to peruse in our youth that sometimes showed prototypes of stuff that eventually didn't make it to production.

Well, AFAIK, Toynami's toy sales have been less than encouraging, not to mention the QC issues.
Who would ever thought that their Masterpiece Veritechs would end up on sale at Walmart and TRU at something like 40% off. I think I read that one from MW if I am not mistaken.

Quality issues indeed! I recently got rid of my Masterpiece Skull Leader due to one glaring fault, the Twin Particle cannons on the head, they were bent out of shape due to the cruddy mold.
