What attracts me, is 60% engineering, 40% on the stylized sculpt. I would be fine with just a straight anime accurate look. But given that I have the whole Revoltech set, I need something more to pay premium price on a small figure. A SRC would have fit my bill otherwise, if I had not gotten the Revoltechs. However, I do have to admit when placing side by side (based on photos), the Riobot new sculpt does shine a lot more. More unique shapes, layering, sculpted in details...it just look more badass. ;D If I am paying close to $100, I might as well get something that looks refreshing and new. And the beauty of this Riobot GL is that, while it has all the stylized flare, it still look very much like the anime GL, unlike the Fewture Getters or Mazingers. So it just hits the perfect spot for me... though I still want a bigger drill.

I mean, essentially the Riobot line has only issued two robots. While there were differences in all three versions of the Delphine, they were all still the same robot. So engineering wise, I had high expectations on Gurren Lagann. And the high quality is also expected and delivered. What it comes down to is you do get your bang for your buck. Sure it seems to cost a lot but in no way does it feels like a rip off. I mean you can spend a hundred dollars like say on a TFC Devastator toy and feel cheated whereas on this figure, you not only get something that is painted beautifully and nice to look at, you are also getting something that has engineering that no others have. Even the SRC version doesn't look like that one will have moving eyes in the chest or sliding panels on the thighs and moving parts on the shin. I am pretty sure that if Chemical Attack wanted to, they could of still come up with a kick a$$ sculpt based on the original line art.

I finally got my riobot GL after sitting in customs for two weeks and I have to say the wait was worth it. I haven't seen a paint job this sharp since I got my metal build 00 gundam, just flawless amazing! The waist joint on mine was a little tight to move at first, but it works well now after a little gentle turning. Even the presentation on the box is top notch, a really class act honoring the 5th anniversary of GL. Articulation is top notch and the movable chest eyes is a really fun gimmick! Furthermore, the engineering in the legs are fantastic for such a small figure! Even though it's pricey at least the quality and engineering delivered.

I was already prepared to gawk at the engineering of the legs - what I wasn't expecting was how well the arms and shoulders were done as well So many moving parts, with pieces swinging and rotating around each other, all with perfect tightness and joint tolerances. The way the elbow panels smoothly bend in two directions that allow both a double jointed elbow OR bi-directional movement is extremely well implemented - little things like the fact that you can pop off the Dai-Gurren brigade logos from the shoulder panels are also quite clever. Everything about the figure is so well thought out and designed (even the hips are on an off-centered rotational joint so that you get more useful range moving around the skirts), it absolutely feels like top quality piece.

Yeah. The upper arm is awesome. Need to be a bit careful when moving the arms (to avoid hitting the glasses/shoulder shields or snapping the shoulder pads), but man... Instead of getting the usual single swivel we get on the upper arm (between elbow & shoulder), we get three. THREE! One on the elbow ball joint, one on the line where the red meets the grey right before the shoulder, then the shield has its own swivel that lets it rotate around the shoulder for a lot of posing variety...then the shield itself also has a ball joint for tilts. Just the single arm has like 10-15 points of articulation, pretty crazy. gamu-toys.info/gangu/sentinel/riobot04/riobot0401.htmlgamu-toys.info/gangu/sentinel/riobot04/riobot0402.htmlGamu-toys' review has a very good articulation break down. A couple of the joints I didn't even know it existed until I looked at his review and pics. Way more detailed than the one page instruction manual the figure came with.

I think it's telling to note how absolutely spot on the precision of the engineering is in this toy that when you fold up the wings on the backpack, there is barely a micrometer of space between the folded wing surface and the extremely sharp points of the drills that stick out. It's something that could easily have been slopped so you could accidentally press the wings in too far and either gouge a chunk out of them or break the drills, but instead they get so close that you can barely see the gap, and stop.

Feels very light, could have used a toe articulation, flight pack keeps popping of if not careful… but the thing is FREAKING AWESOME!!!
The red and maroon color scheme is just chromatic perfection and takes the original anime red scheme to new heights. The sculp is just amazing; feels like the toy is bigger thanks to all the detail.
If this was the size of a Fewture, it would, without a doubt, be the centrepiece of my collection.

OK. Tragedy struck. Beware of the little plastic piece holding the groin plate on. Not sure how it happened but mine just snapped off.

That's sad news indeed. Any progress in fixing it? Super glue?
I didn't know there was a sliding joint in that groin plate until I saw Gamu-toys' Japanese review. But just by observation, that hinge on the plate didn't look like it can move a whole lot, so never moved it much.

Yeah. I fixed it. I did not know it moved either until AFTER this happened.

Ufff! Tempting, but I just can't bring myself to spend so much on that rendition of GL. Even on sale, we are still talking very close to $100 shipped for it... }D

Wow I didn't think this piece would be going on sale so quickly. For that price anyone who's one the fence should just pick it up. It's quality pieces like this that just don't come out very often.

Actually. He is in scale with the SRC and bigger than some of them. Much bigger than every Revoltech I ever had and 100 times cooler. Worth every single penny.

the riobot gurren lagann is one of those toys where opinion is divided by price. [almost] everyone agrees the quality is superb, but whether it's worth the price is down to the individual. if it's at a price point that you can afford, go for it! as with anything, it would obviously be better [for us] if it was cheaper, but that can be said for practically everything! i just hope that riobot/sen-ti-nel get lazengann into production

Actually, he is standing next to my Mazinkaiser SKL and I think he might be bigger. Close to same size. Now THAT is an expensive SRC
