Old toys were built to last and take abuse. Not so much anymore. I'm still amazed at how Bandai can engineer a Valkyrie but then can't seem to get their joints or connections right on the first go... hence releasing a 2.0 version and ultimately selling us two of something that should have been right the first time, yet it strangely seems to happen with various figures every so often? Hmmm...

I'm sorry to disagree but i have to. The plastic is glossy and looks more expensive that that dull plastic used for Yamato's YF-19 and YF-21, although not as expensive as the VF-19s' glossy plastic. And having seen the latest Transformers Masterpiece MP-11's plastic, I think you are exaggerating. I think it's the yellow and black accents which might make it look like this to you, because the paint is not as sharp as it should be. I actually agree with OzmaLee here, the plastic on the renewal feels kind of cheap, I don't own any of the first versions but from the video reviews it feels they didn't really improve on the materials as much as they did on the engineering. And I would have loved if Bandai had used the same quality of plastic as Yamato's YF-21 for example, maybe the paint would have been able to survive the first transformation I still like the renewal 25 though, I think they really did a really fantastic job on the ankles.

I don't understand Bandai. It seems as though a lot of people are interested in these but they sell out immediately. I have yet been able to be fast enough to pre order and of the new Valks. I will see they are releasing something new head over to Ami Ami or HLJ and they are sold out the day they are announced. If you are listening Bandai make more people will buy them.

Late in the game catching up on the YF-29, but finally opened it and displayed/transformed it. I have to say it is my favorite DX Macross F toy so far (better than the new 171, which I have yet acquire a VF-25 Renewal). The design took a while to grow on me, but buying the movie Blu-rays helped. But when I fiddle with the figure, everything works nicely as it should, without things overly loose or tight. Everything just works out of the box and is now striking a cool action pose on its stand. Having micro missile pods without the need of Fast Packs really add to the figure, and the articulation is awesome. I can kind of see why the VF-25 Renewal get so much love now, when it inherit most of the designs of the YF-29. I do see potential of some joints can loosen up through time, so I have to pay attention not to wear them out too soon. But this is as problem free as DX Macross F valk can get so far. A couple hinges can pop off, but its not a big deal. Locks are solid, gun grip is snug, main joints are all pretty tight. To my satisfaction on the figure, I granted it the better painted little pilot figure from my VF-171. While the armored VF-25 is still my favorite designs of the bunch, the YF-29 has earned the top spot in my Macross F collection for the time being. I'll have to see if the eventual Armored VF-25F Renewal will top it or not, whenever that happens...

Glad you are happy with your YF-29. =) Still looking for fast packs for it though and prices for it have skyrockted to about $200 on the secondary market. Thats about the same price for the upcoming VF-25G. Not worth it for 5 pieces of plastic. It is a beautiful bird although my top spot belongs to the VF-25F with Super Pack. I dunno, I guess I it just strikes the perfect balance for me.

I got the armor packs for $105 a set and those had way more parts. $20 bucks sounds like a more reasonable price for the amount of parts you get. But that's if I lived in another dimension. Hahaha!

The Fast Pack is nice to have, but a couple things bug me a lot about it that I didn't bother to search for it. One is the ridiculous price like you guys mentioned. It was sold for 3150yen, not a 10000yen or 15000yen that everyone now is asking for. And it is not a full on armor either. Just a wing extension and a couple boosters. The second thing is the color. Not sure why Bandai made the blue parts so blue, when it was a very light grey with just a little blue in it. In some CG shots, that gray is almost identical to the white. The saturated cobalt blue plastic made it very out of place. So in a way, I feel that the Fast Pack made the figure more complete, but more ugly at the same time. Reviews also mentioned the figure is very back heavy with the added parts, so it needs the stand at all times to minimize joint wear.
With all the short comings, I can't see myself paying anything more than $50-70 for that add on, and just live with an incomplete but better, naked YF-29.

I guess I'm sort of a completist when it comes to the Mac F Valks. Having a limited variety makes it easy. ;D Anyhoo, I just skip to the part after Alto ejects the fast pack in Wings of Goodbye and pretend they never existed to relieve the anxiety of not having them. Hehe!

Ouch on the wallet!! Fighter mode looks awesome with the fast pack. Congrats on the pickup.
Guess what, I lucked out on the 30th anniversary color and snatched one at HLJ couple days ago. Then promptly preordered the fast pack from NY.

Thanks! Well, I paid a little lower than eBay prices but still a lot more than retail. =( Damn! Lucky! I try not to look at the 30th Anniversary thread in the MW forums because the more and more I see folks posting pics, the more Im wanting to change my mind about not getting it. Have you seen the box? It's insane!

I just saw the box pic today. Pretty awesome box!
Mine will likely stay unopened until I get my fast pack. Heck, 25g is still in the box too.

What? You do check for QC issues I hope. Some guys in the MW forum received theirs with missing parts. I use that excuse to open mine up. Hehe!

I've been thinking about doing that for the 25g....haven't gotten around to it though. Good reminder.
I hope I don't get the warped wings problems!
