Here is the back attachment piece molded. I had to add one lap of yellow electrical tape to get a snug fit into GaiKing due to small plastic shrinkage.

I tried to primer and clear coat the jet piece, but still had not favorable results.
Last night, using the not so good mold, I made a resin piece and sanded it down. I looks really good, slightly better than my first. Tonight, I plan on finishing the jet piece and maybe get a new mold of it going again. Shouldn't have problems for the silicone curing this time for sure <crosses fingers>
Only about 5 to 6 days behind schedule due to silicone curing inhibitions. Almost betting if I had used tin cure instead of platinum, it would have done fine.

Can't wait to see it! I think the wings on the Popy version really add to the distinctive look of Gaiking.
It sounds like molding/casting is (like most things of this nature) more art than science!
I would really like to start doing some basic stuff myself. I just do not know where to start.

Start with Research on the subject of Mold Making and Resin Casting... plus check out the thread here titled "Thread For Resin Casting Toy Parts" robotjapan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fancustom&action=display&thread=11383...it's nine pages long, and has several tutorials and articles on folks here making their own cast custom toy schtuff... Somewhere in the later pages of that thread you'll see how I started out learning about that aspect of the hobby. I'm still new at it, and I just started cutting my teeth in it lately. I tell you, it's addicting and educative, and it's also expensive... but overall, very Fun. If it weren't for the Fun part of it, I wouldn't've taken up that hobby. Here's my first real resin casting project... robotjapan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fancustom&action=display&thread=18307...and of course, follow this thread as well, so you can see bourno's work in progress. Bookmark all these threads to your RJ profile so you can find them quickly for quick reference. Whenever you're ready, start with the basic supplies. If you have any questions, ask, anyone of us will be happy to help. Enjoy! ;D zozo-Mag Can't wait to see it! I think the wings on the Popy version really add to the distinctive look of Gaiking. It's getting hot and humid where I live (upstate NY). I already put a fan in my window to suck the heat out of my room. I just hope the humidity won't affect my rubber molds. ;D
How's the climate affecting your work? Is the climate working in your favor, or against you? I have a feeling the best time Not to do any casting/molds is during the really Hot/Humid summer days in July.

The weather has been on the cool side, but I have kept the shop around the low to mid 60s, so I haven't been affected any.
I just stuck the new piece into the old mold. I cut back the impression area about an 1/8", poured some silicone in, and then allowed the new piece to ooze into place. I was lucky and didn't have much over-flow. It sure beat doing up a whole new form and only had to use a little silicone.
Also, got in a gallon of smooth-cast 326, it has become my favorite for casting. Pot time is 7 minutes and the de-mold time is 60 minutes, but with the cooler shop temperature, I have waited 2 to 3 hours though.
The smooth cast 320 trial stuff I got in will be tested with roto-casting, it sets up too quickly for my taste at a pot life of 3 minutes. Tends to thicken too much for me at only about 1 to 1-1/2 minutes.

Tony, I love your tutorial, a lot of great information in it. I just haven't had the ambition to do something like that myself. But I really enjoy yours.

Looking at the mold this morning, it appears to be setting up fine. So, should be able to work on the second part of the 2 piece mold tonight. And if all goes well, pour first cast Saturday evening finally !!!

Bro, thanks for checkin out my tut. You're doing an amazing job here yourself. Again, I'm really glad to see jumbos get all the luv and the extra bowl of grits they deserve, thanks to you and others here at RJ who enjoy working with jumbos. The weather where I live has cooled down a bit, so I don't mind waiting a little longer to demold new castings at this time. While I wait I can work on other parts. I wish the pot life for these materials would last longer... long enough to allow time to pour multiple molds (liquid rubber), and multiple castings (resin)... ...I'd hate to try retarding or delaying the cure time for fear I'll ruin the curing properties. I'm gonna save up for a gallon of the rubbers and resins from the Oomoo line as soon as I have enough work ready to justify using that much material. I'll start with the trial quantities so I can familiarize myself with the products. As for your projects here, I'm havin a blast. I bookmarked this thread so I can follow it. Awesome work, keep us posted. zozo-mag

Instead of using the Smooth-On website, I was referred by them to use the Reynoldsam website. It is distributor for them, but located in Chicago for shipping instead of shipping from Alabama, I think, or one of the southeast states. The Reynoldsam site has the same products, information, pricing, etc. Wish they would send me a trial size of all the different silicones and resins for free They did send me, upon request, round flat pogs of cured resins which was nice to see the feel and look of them for possible different usages.

1st pours for GaiKing's Wing and Jet I am quite excited, demold time is 1 hour, but I will wait at least 3 hours to let them harden up a little more before popping them out. Maybe yet tonight, will have photos of GaiKing and his new Jet Pack posted up. Attachments:

The wing is gonna have to cure overnight as is still pliable. The jet piece looks good, a few tiny air bubbles when you look close, but that is on the inside not outside. The outside is nice and smooth.
They have cured more of a maroon color, so will have to add in more white or maybe some yellow pigment to bring out a red.

Well done!
You get that red anywhere near the color of his center horn this is going to look top notch. Post some more shots at different angles please! A Front shot would also be cool.

The web page has a 3 more different views. I can take some more pics if those aren't satisfying Not sure if I want to go orangish, I was shooting more of the same color as Mazinga's Jet Scrander and the red like the GaiKing GA-51 miniature diecast has. If someone wants an early piece with the color not dialed in or something else not quite right, shoot me a PM, and will work out a good price for it if you aren't crazy picky. All are spoken for. Thanks, Wes

Think I may have the parts close to a better red hopefully. Most likely will have 3 wings (2 need cleaned up yet) for a good deal, with one spoken for.
The Raydeen BowFist replica has been started for a silicone mold of it. Am looking at ordering more silicone again. I should have bought a gallon worth instead of the trial size cans, lol. . . After that, I want to start on a Mazinga Scrander Jet piece that will be of similar style to the "snap-on" waist version with the higher wing set. I think it looks much cooler than the straight wing version with the belt.
Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate your words.

Wings are spoken for currently. If I have some more "not so quite right or best looking" items, I will post.
