I was thinking "4-part mold" exactly, my friend. The question then would be how to cast around them without having them come apart while the resin is curing. Too much to brainstorm right now, go enjoy your trip away for a while. Meanwhile I'll sleep on that thought tonight. I'm getting ready to clock in at work right now, so I can't discuss details further, just checking my emails quick before I clock in. Talk to ya soon... zozo-mag Depending on price, I might be interested in a bowfist too. Is there a risk of the resin cracking when placed over the arm? The original plastic can bend a little, so it fits easily over the ridges without risk of damage. How does the resin hold up when attaching it? I need to let resin cure a couple days to check on that. I am using a less hard resin andthinking so be okay but will test tomorrow. Am going to make 2 or 3 fists the harder way and then I have an idea for modifying he mold from a 2 piece system, to 4 piece mold. But have a trip and wont get to that for at least a week then to begin on it

By 4 part, I was going to modify my existing 2 piece mold some and then have a double layer insert piece. A harder silicone cylinder and then cast a soft silicone around it that is closer to the fist surface. Am thinking that after pouring a cast, could pull the cylinder piece and then slowly fold in the outer one and pull it out. Okay, some pics. The 65D hardness resin seems to been a good choice. It is stiff, but still flexible some. The original is a little softer, but could due to the repro is thicker except at the slip on area. Short Raydeen fist page www.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/Raydeen_bowfist.htmlIf you look at them closely, you can see the original has a blue tinge while mine has a purple tinge. From a couple feet away, it is very hard to see the difference though. The first bow pieces needed some more yellow for a darker yellow, but not a biggie. The extra work may be worth the end results Will get a few more done after I get back as am heading out Sunday and gone for about a week. Unfortunately, it is a work trip, lol. Thanks for the encouragement and any brainstorming for a simpler casting solution.

I must admit, I never learned anything about the hardness variations of resins... I figured resin is resin and just bought it off the shelf. Now, thanks to you, I'm about to learn how to determine which hardness of resin I'll need for relative applications. I'll keep studying the online tutorials for resin Hardness Tables so I can learn about the variety of resin types available. Just got off work now, at MickeyD's checkin my mail and messages, will be home soon to resume more work on a certain little booger. ;D I'll be back here tomorrow with a drawing. Late Edit:That Raideen bowfist you made looks awesome! I almost Couldn't tell the difference between Yours and the Original fist. Regardless of the tinge you mentioned, you got the color for that fist Spot-On; and it looks flawless and very good on that Raideen jumbo. Great job on that casting! zozo-Mag By 4 part, I was going to modify my existing 2 piece mold some and then have a double layer insert piece. GaiKing Wing Clearance of blemish ones I have 3 non-ebay quality wings for purchase. PM me on which one you would like if available yet and only one per person at this time. Prices reflect U.S. shipping included. International shipping cost would likely be anywhere from $10 to $20 more than shown below.
This is what I am talking about if you don't know www.teambac.com/1_ebay/gaiking_wing/GaiKing_Wing.html
No photos, but will described as best as I can. And don't plan on taking pics either as they are boxed and ready to ship out.
PayPal is preferred, and will reply with my payment address.
Blem #1: $15 shipped, Wing has 2 small dents on front wing from not paying attention to where I was laying it down at. Has tiny surface air bubbles on rear side of wing only. Jet piece has a few very small air bubbles.
Blem #2: $15 shipped, Wing has 1 small dent like above. The back side of the wing has extra flashing trimming around the back side of the wing, this one was before I trimmed the wing mold. Jet piece has tiny air bubbles here and there.
Blem #3: $25 shipped, Wing has slight wavy plastic on backside only, the resin started to set up at the very end of the pour. The jet piece has one air bubble filled along the edge where it meets the wing. The plastic fill wasn't perfect match. Also one other quite small air bubble that wasn't touched up. If not for these small items, would have been on ebay.
Should have some "ebay quality" wings available soon and will post up an RJ price on those when I get back from my work trip.
I wanted these out for offering before I head up, but will have the wife mail them. Are all pending sold. .

Finally! Here's the drawing... self-explanatory and simple, an insert inside a primary mold. If I come up with better ideas I'll post them here. Hope this helps... zozo-Mag I still owe a drawing. I''ll get to it tonight (if I don't get snatched up by the love bug at work. LOL) zozo-Mag

thanks, that was what I was leaning towards, but with an extra outside flexible silicone around the insert piece to reduce the resin usage. Pull the insert and then collapse the next inside mold and pull it out the insert hole.
I am going to use an insert for the bow pieces most certainly, as they get messier for roto-casting. Will play with roto-casting a couple more times when I get home for the fist piece yet.

Aaaaaah, now I see what you mean. That's a good idea. Yeah, you'd certainly need to rig it up so the casting won't require lotsa resin. I saw some resin filler pellets sold at C.R. Resins online, though I'm not quite sure if the filler pellets might help... ...for the filler pellets, I might as well just dump a bag of plastic BB-gun pellets in there. ;D
I had also thought of hard foam as a resin filler... but the heat generated from the curing action of the resin might dissolve the foam.

I tried to make a tighter inside mold for the fist, but wasn't able to remove without cutting. So, am back to roto-casting the fist piece at the moment. The bow piece, I was able to add an inner mold which is working well though. As I most likely won't be able to afford jumbo Combattler anytime soon. I did purchase the 22" Thailand vinyl kit (reproduction of original kit) off ebay cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360361600627I am going to use some 6 lb and 3 lb, 2 part foam to strengthen it up and find some stiff linkages to have some movement as well. Now, wish there was a Danguard Ace kit out there.

Nice looking recasts. so many of those I'd like to have! Thanks for sharing Burno! I so wish he had a 22" Mach Baron. But I think I'll order that Combattler V myself since I'll never be able to afford any Jumbo over $350 or so.
Unless I sell all mine just for that! <--not a chance!

LOL! Once you get jumbos, KEEP em. If you have dupes, do whatever you want with them or sell them or whatever, but Do keep your main jumbos. Once they're gone, they're hard to get back. ;D

Coming from Thailand, I am not expecting the vinyl model to arrive for about another 2 weeks most likely.
Believe the arrival estimate was from June 21st to June 30th.
I still need to search McMaster Carr or a hardware store for linkages yet if I want to add more limb movements. oops.

Just got back from a work trip and the Combattler vinyl model arrived Wednesday. The casting pieces are pretty good, a few pieces do have some small air bubbles or not so perfect molding. The vinyl kit should look pretty good when done, but won't be a jumbo style looking bot. The torso is about 1-1/2" less in width and the proportions will be more like the SOCs. Overall, a nice model kit for the money. I don't see being able to try and make it look more jumbo style If it was about 25-30% bulkier in size, I would give a go for modifying. Just need some crazy person to figure out how to make bootleg copies of these old, more rare jumbos even if in a kit

Hope I wasn't bidding against one of the members here for a Uni-Five Mazinga with a Jet Scrander attachment. If so, sorry, but too good to pass up. The last one I saw in May, ended up for a little over $500, so got a very, very good deal on this one and I really expected it to go much higher than I wanted to give for it at the last seconds. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260806039120I mainly wanted the Jet Scrander piece for the most part so I wouldn't have to make a scratch version like I did for the GaiKing wing. The GaiKing wing was relatively simple to build up, but Mazinga's wing was going to be more complex and wanted to see how the first wing turned out and interest on it. So, expect some repro Mazinga wings later this Summer on my list. Thanks to all that have bought some of my custom and reproduction Jumbo parts to continue on with more future availability for other pieces.
