Alright, y'all... here's my latest acquisition: The Bandai Hover Pilder 'gashapon' CPA-09. I scored it under the B.I.N. option from a seller at eBay. It arrived in my mailbox this afternoon. He has others on sale; but I will only go after a few more of these if they are Mazinger-related; later on down the road. Sorry about the image quality... I was browsing eBay and at first glance I thought it was a re-issued die-cast Popy Hover Pilder. But a few RJers had confirmed to me what this specimen really is. This specimen was manufactured in 2002, and is a cute little 2" gashapon rendition of the larger die-cast vintage Popy Hover Pilder. There's really not much detail to this here specimen except for the basic molded design of its larger Popy counterpart... if you own the original die-cast Popy Pilder PA-05 you know about the sculpt and detail I'm referring to. Here's a pic of the PA-05 (pic courtesy of eBay) Unlike most gashapons which are made of typical hard rubber/vinyl material, this Pilder is made of hard plastic with an acrylic canopy that is articulated to open; and gashapon rubber wings that are also articulated to pivot laterally. There's even a tiny Koji Kabuto pilot seated inside the cockpit! Bandai kicks ass with the box art here, even for this little tiny box and its brochure! I'm tempted to collect more of these cute lil boogers! -------------------- @tmz... Okay, I won't mess with this Krazy Ikes set. lol But I will hunt down any more Krazy Ikes kits at eBay! zozo-mag

I wonder if it would fit in any of the Mazinger figures... }D

I don't know if it will actually fit the other Maz figs. Maybe the DX Maz, but not so sure... the body on this here Pilder seems kinda long. I forgot to mention: the wings on this specimen can come off, and so does the bottom hull plate, the side rocket engines, and the canopy. The body comes apart in half, but might take some work to get it split open. I really don't wanna mess with this specimen like that. lol LATE EDIT: I updated my previous post by adding a pic of the original die-cast Popy Hover Pilder PA-05 to show a comparison. Also, the body does come apart... nothing on this specimen is glued in place except for the pilot glued to the seat.... The canopy, pilot/cockpit, even the dorsal rudder (the "shark fin" on top of the hull) all come apart; as though this toy were a miniature model kit. lolI'm curious to try and repro this tiny toy... ...I'd probably tear my hair out trying to make molds for all of its parts! For That kind of trouble, I'd be better off making a large-scale replica and Not waste any material.zozo-mag

I think you'd probably like the Takara DMZ line better than the Yamato line. They are a bit more like old school robots, but they are pretty similar actually.

Man, you Lucky RJer you! Stuff like That, with THAT particular jumbo, doesn't happen often; so you made out really good. Congrats!
Too bad no modern-day toy manufacturer ever thought about acquiring the license to revive these jumbos...
...The only exception to this case was the StarWars Stormtrooper jumbo which came and went like a fart: it got people's attention for a quick whiff, and then it just gas'ed into the thin airs of Forgotten-About toys.

Exactly right!! I've seen 3 or 4 of the stormtrooper on ebay for $299, although I would like to add him to my collection, he's low on my list. I'm really trying to hold out for my top 5 and then go for the others, but, man, the cost on the others keep climbing! Although I can't help myself when it's really reasonible (like this Mazinger and the Garada). Once I grab my Combattler V and my 17, I know the others are going to be REALLY tough, I don't know which way I'll go then.... Patients has never been a strong point of mine when it comes to jumbos. Hard to say, I may end up offering up my die casts as trade! Tom

I hear ya there, bro. It's a tough call when going after jumbos: because, it's either Going after the vintage ones before they climb higher... ...or, Going after the rare ones before they become more hard to find. Either way, their Timing and Availability are of the essence. That Mazinger-Z jumbo falls somewhere between the two categories (either Vintage, or Obscure). But in this case here, its timing and availability played right in your favor, so Kudos to you for scoring it when you did. zozo-mag Exactly right!!
