Hello all,
BFJ arrived today and I immediately began to assemble him. Like a surgeon performing his first operation, my hands were trembling while applying the stickers. I did my best but some of the stickers lost their adhesive qualitys after all these years. The repro sticker sheets were not of the same quality as the original, so I didn't apply them. They are more of a flat, matte-like finish, while the originals were nice & glossy.
Putting him together was easy, but moving at the pace of a snail to prevent breaking anything, it took me a bit more time than I anticipated.
He is gorgeous though! My question to all the repro artists out there; can the reproduction sticker sheet be reproduced to a glossy finish? I'd like to apply stickers that won't peel or lift off.
Here is a pic....

So wait, did you try to apply the original stickers? I was going to tell you in the other thread the adhesive would probably be gone due to age, but I didn't have a chance. You looks great though, patience pays off!!!!

Any products that you know of that I can apply to the original stickers so they don't peel off? Thanks in advance and thanks for the compliments!

spray adhesive. elmers or 3m. you can also spray clear coat on the repros so they are shiny. just about anything labeled "gloss" will work. one very light coat should do it. ive made crappy photocopier decals look pretty good that way.

It feels great but you know me, I'm such a perfectionist. I won't be 100% happy until I get some spray adhesive to get all the decals laying perfectly. I will also feel a hell of a lot better once I know these repro stickers can be repro'd again in a glossy finish, by a skilled repro artist..wink, wink WillOhio & Kitsir!

The purchase has set me back so much financially that I have to sell off some of my other Jumbos....starting with my Taiwanese D-17. Just threw him on E-Bay and in the 'for sale' section.

I had the same problem with my MIB Battle Fever- the stickers lifted immediately- I used double sided tape and just applied it to all the problem areas of the stickers- the polyethylene is so slick when it's new that the stickers have trouble sticking to it. And I did the same thing- I was sweating as I applied them, thinking of all the times I had to fix badly applied vintage stickers, I thought, "I'll put these on perfect." But I didn't- they were always just a little crooked. Oh well-
Congrats on the score! He looks fantastic in your display.

And I see you left off the red upper belly sticker- I could never figure out how to get that one on straight or without folding/bunching! I know necrodave had the same problem on his collectiondx review.

Yes, you are sooo right Christ, the red waist sticker just can't be done. I don't know if anyone has ever done it. The only red sticker I've seen is the one on the box and instruction manual.
I think I'm going to spray the decals with adhesive spray and reapply some of them. I can't stand stickers that lift or peel. The top of the knee stickers were very tough too. He is an incredible jumbo on so many levels but the stickers aren't one of them. I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who had problems with the decals.
Now my heart is set on Voltes V, Danguard, Getta Liger, Sun Vulcan, God Marz & Godsigma. I hope to own at least one of them in the next year or so.
Christ, you have an incredible collection as well....any chance of an updated photo of your collection? I'd love to see it again.

I just bought 3m super 77 adhesive spray to re-affix any loose decals. I've never used something like this before, does anyone know if I bought the correct product? I'm concerned the spray will 'bleed' through the decals and ruin them, especially the waist sticker. Any thoughts or tips?
I know Christ said that he used double sided tape. Is that a better option? whats the safest option? I have to do something because BFJ will look like crap with heavily peeling stickers. Thanks again
