Damn!! That is one good looking Danguard, LOL!!
I got the 'pink slip' in my mailbox today telling me that my DA is at the post office!!
You're probably right about the fists being the same with the only difference being the hole in the fist on Daimos isn't bored through completely.

My Dangard has no impression and the hole location on mine, is right at the intersecting grooves of the fist. I didn't see on any of my other shoguns, having the Daimos distinctive right fist for the hole indention.
It is always interesting comparing features of the jumbos to each other for having different molds and variants among the runs.

Mostly I am just happy to realize that I basically have the arm cuff from Dangard.
Now I can add it to my collection of jumbo parts (just in case I ever need it).
I do wonder though why Mattel decided to produce Daimos figures with both styles of cuffs on the shooting arm.

I might be wrong but I don't think that Daimos was ever release with that kind of sleeve for the fist. It always come with the square sleeve, so it looks more like your Daimos came with a Mattel Gaiking fists as replacement for a lost fist. And yes Mattel Gaiking fists are the same as Danguard. There just a little color variations as I think that Gaiking fists are all black while Danguard are a bit more blue. Need to check on mine later today.

So I can only guess that Mattel decided to use the Dangard cuff for their Gaiking figure probably because the shooting arm (piviting elbow version) that they decided to stick onto their version of Gaiking is basically pulled from Dangard anyway and so this way the forarm/cuff length would match up with the shooting mechanism.
As to the Mattel Daimos having both arm versions, I have seen instances of boxed and unboxed Daimos figures being sold with the rounded cuff forearm and am fairly certain that I saw some sold back in the 70's that way as well.
After thinking about it I am guessing that the discrepancy is probably because Daimos' release came as the toy line was winding down and this is just a case where Mattel decided to stick whatever arms that they had left over onto the figure in order to clear out their warehouse.
On a side note, I finally found a picture of the Popy Daimos' blades which shows their correct length and now realize that mine are about 1" too long.
So I'll see about making some adjustments to them before I begin working on a roto-cast molded version.

Not sure about release date, but a few Popy Jumbo from more or less the same year used that kind of pivoting elbow shooting device. Danguard, Voltes V, Daimos and D17, later Godmarz also and Goggle V was planned with them also. Voltes V sleeves where used for the Mattel Daimos, and Danguard sleeves where used for Mattel Gaiking. The choice to use the one from Danguard is probably because it's the one closer to the Popy Gaiking as those are straight and simple. All the other using that kind of shooting arms are really different. Like I was saying Voltes V is a square sleeve, D17 is the white with some dents, and Godmarz is close to Voltes V with a little variation.
I know that Mattel messed up with their Jumbos with the down grading design and that Daimos was the last one, but I think it's hard to believe that they've put some Gaiking fists on their Daimos just to finish what they had left as parts. But you never know with those guys. It always seems to me that it was a replacement fists for a lost part

Spent a bit of time tonight cleaning up the sword pieces.. I think that they are now closer to the correct length and appearance of original ones from the Popy Daimos.

How goes the Daimos cuff? Curious if you made a 2nd version yet or not.

I spent some time trying to clean up the first mold a bit but it's still rougher than I would like.
Tonight I am working on making a mold for a different jumbo accessory but I'll probably go back and re-cast the Daimos cuff either tomorrow or the next day along with the sword blade.
I also just bought another couple of Mattel Daimos figures and once they get here I will be experimenting on them with the new pieces.
You know how it is.. It's rare to be 100% satisfied with the way the first attempt at a new piece turns out.

It took me a lot longer than I expected but I am finally getting back to this piece. I started work on a new master for the arm cuff today. There are several small flaws in the original piece (scratches, dents etc.) which of course transferred to my first mold and so now I am creating a new master out of stone that I can then clean up and use to (hopefully) make a better mold from. If all goes to plan I will be able to finish cleaning this up tomorrow and then be able to use it to make a new mold from.

Hi guys, I noticed my Giaking has the fist with the round spot. The cuff for Giaking is very similar to Danguard Ace.

I am pretty sure now that Mattel had Popy just use the Dangard fist models on the American Gaiking release. (minus the shooting insert for the left one).

The fists that it came with are the wrong ones so I just set them aside. I have an original Popy left fist I will move over to this jumbo and substitute one of my reproduction "Mattel Daimos Makeover" right fists for the missing one. (at least until I can track down the correct Popy one).
It also came with some low quality repro red missiles that I will be replacing with some of my own.

The fists that came with it look like they came from Battle Fever J or more likely, Space Valour or UFO Jumbo Machinder. Those too are worth reproing.

They seem to be from one of the BFJ knock off jumbos.
The plastic on the fists themselves is not as smooth as an original Popy fist and the cuffs seem a bit under par as well.
However, I will definitely be keeping them.

Unfortunately, my "real" work isn't going to leave me with much time to work with Daimos for the next few days however I couldn't stand to just leave it looking like it did when I got it. So I went ahead and gave it a "60 minute makeover" with some parts that I had already made and a set of decals I quickly threw together. Mind you this is just temporary fix until I have some time in the next few days to really work on this piece.
