Yeah, I agree Malakas, Bandai didn't cut corners on this thing. Time will tell if this release will win folks over. Gold

One Piece is not my cup of tea, but I planned to get this one because of engineering.

im curious of how big are these new fangled tank threads compared to soc Voltes V or Godaikin Voltes V. Would a transplant be possible

I don't think the transplant is possible. The "core" wheels for the tank are much thicker on Franky than on the Vintage Popy, so that would make the treads longer and would just probably flop around on the Vintage, and more so on the SOC. Thickness/wideness is also about 2x thicker than the Popy so the fit is totally all wrong. Gold

Knowing how big this one is, I am afraid to think how much AmiAmi will charge for shipping.

Thanks for the info. As it turns out, I can order it through Amazon.ca for a little less when I factor in all the costs. However that shipping cost is not too bad considering the size and weight. I just have to wait until Christmas bills are paid and then I can order one. He looks like so much fun!

Got mine : impressive ! This is a huge piece. (Diecast goes from feet to hips.) He is stable but fall a bit in rear. Manufacturing finishes are on top. Plastic molded parts are beautiful : I see NO cut point !!! (I am talking of those cut point when you have to separate part from mold grid)
I picked this piece for my SOC collection and thanks to amiami discount... But why this one is coming to SOC line ? Same old question (SOC for super robots, SOP for spaceships and Chogokin for others... That so simple Mister Bandai)
If you like beautiful toy and you have some money to spend, Go ahead. If not and/or you hate one piece : wait for Trider G7.

Has Bandai released anything for their SOP line as of late? I don't recall seeing a new one for years.

Saved this General Franky for boxing day, even though I had it delivered for a while. I had high expectations on this thing (partly due to being a One Piece fan, and partly from all the good reviews I saw here). But man, I didn't expect this to be this well engineered. I believe this is the gokin that has most ratchet joints to date. What I am most impressed by it is the placements of the ratchets, in joints that looks like a normal friction hinge joint with very little room for ratchets (like the double jointed knees). The big shoulder also has a hidden rotating ratchet on the pink ring. Even the telescoping cannon/head rotation has ratchet. It is pretty ridiculous (in a good way). Given, some of these ratchets clicks a bit soft (not those super strong ones that locks hard, but still use some sort of spring mechanism as they all have that nice springy click sound), it is still very nice and does help in stability of the figure, which is quite needed especially on the legs to support the very top heavy design. The legs are very solid and sturdy, though I would still suggest to use the given display stand to support the figure better for long term display and lessen any stress on the leg joints.
While General Franky may not be everyone's cup of tea in terms of looks, it is indeed one of the best constructed SOC to date, and doing quite a few very cool things that previous 'cooler' SOCs had ever done. Those awesome tank tracks, the awesome articulated hands, such poseability on arms & legs that pretty much surpasses all previous SOCs, simple combination, and even the nice chrome sword is thicker than anybody else's. And that awesome retro Popy packaging & development color booklet... This release indeed broke a lot of grounds! (was lead by the designer that brought us SOC God Sigma, written in the booklet)
I was less fortunate to get some minor flaws (as usual, head drill lost a little bit of chrome on the side, a silver paint dot on one hand, and some tiny bumps on chrome sword), and didn't get it at the stealer sales it had in the passed few weeks. But those are very minor and the overall QC is very good. Paint is very clean, ratchets are mostly very even on both sides, parts fit and locks well...etc. I am very glad getting this SOC (One Piece fan or not), as this SOC is indeed a very well made gokin that is both awesome, extremely well engineered, yet simple for a lot of play & posing. It has a lot going to either make him a good display with kickass action poses, or make him do a bunch of goofy signature poses like Franky does in the show. Kind of a Boss Borot on steroids.
SUUUUPERRRRRRRR highly recommended!
