Hi everyone, I'm looking for a lionbot that is the closest to GoLion . For example, normal star belt.
However, I'm unable to tell the various ones apart in the auctions. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

If you want to buy a Lionbot that is identical to a Golion without the silver Y&K decals the bottom you have to buy an old one. The pics above is the Taiwan Golion which is the same without the Y&K decals. The other box to look for is the typical Lionbot box but says "Lets Go Lion" in rainbow letters that hover over the legs/feet of Lionbot/Voltron's full robot picture on the box front. These ones are identical to the original Popy, and Godaikin Golion, just like the Diecast Metal Taiwan Golion. Now granted some of the "Lets Go Lion" versions may have diamonds, circles, or the V sign on the belt as these were bootlegged, but ones with the star should be the real deal. Its also easy to tell by the sword. If the sword has the hand guard on the hilt, then its real. If the sword is minus the guard it is most likely a total bootleg. But just to let you know, the current newer version Lionbots are pretty nice for bootlegs. And they have all the shooting missile launchers and weapons like the old Golions. They also only run $110 or less shipped from Taiwan. Not to bad of a deal for a new Lionbot.

Guys, thanks for the replies and it has been most informative! But what if I want a version that just has the normal star on the belt?
Currently, the auctions I see are 'Lionbot' versions on the box and haven't come across a GoLion version yet...
What's your take on these 'Lionbot' KOs? Is the quality good and do they have the standard star belt?

Some of these knockoffs are just as well made. I have a lot of them and the one pictured above is just as well manufactured as the original. I also have a bunch of the diamond belts also very well made and are some of my favorites and I really dig the Diamond on the belt. The V belt versions are a bit flimsy but do have the chrome elbows and tails which is nice. The new lionbots I do not have any. The blue lion uses the yellow lions body which drives me nuts and the green lions paint is the wrong color. On the newer ones the black lions thighs are not chrome, they have a chrome sticker just on the front of the thigh and the rest is black plastic. Some lionbots also have silver paint on the thighs that looks like chrome in pictures. I bought one of those thinking it was chrome. Definately look for an older version they will have the sharp teeth and correct colors, chrome and bodies.
xtrlowz75... Don't tell me there is another variation I don't know of. Circle in the belt??? Are there like endless variations of that one too? Just when I think my collection is complete I find something new. I only collect the Popy style originals and bootlegs so it has to end sometime. I need to fimd me one of these Trendmaster boxed knockoffs and a couple others. I still need the mini Lionbot as well

About a year and a half ago I was bidding on a mini in box looked brand new. The bid was at 86.00 and I was just about to bid and my ex wife started talking to me and I forgot to bid, when I remembered I was about 2 minutes too late the auction ended at $86.00. Someone scored thanks to her but then again someone was always scoring thanks to her guess that's why she's my X..lol. God missing that lionbot hurts haha

Ya, I actually had one with well not a circle but a small oval in the belt. I sold it to a guy 4 years ago with of a bunch of Transformers parts and a few Voltron parts. It was long before I knew much about eBay besides buying college books and a few things, had never sold on eBay yet, and long before I became a member here. At that time I knew the basics of robots and toys from my own collection and playing with them, but did not know the term "variant" as I do now.

Thanks for all the replies guys...so from what I gather, its practically a 'lottery'? I won't be able to tell if I can get a 'star belt' version or tell if the Black Lion's thighs are chromed painted or chrome stickers? LOL!

here is a question. if there is a starbelt on the outside box picture, does that guarantee a star belt on the inside? or is it truly a blind lottery with these ebay auctions in taiwan?

No its not a lottery. The newer Taiwan versions all have star belts inside. Buy a Lionbot from the seller named Zycf who sells them from Taiwan on eBay. I've purchased from him before, he ships fast, they always come as described, and will answer any questions. He will even make "bundle deals" if you buy multiple robots. He sells GodTrons (God Marz) and GodBots (God Sigma)too. Sometimes he pops up with Protectors (Gardians) here and there too. Hope this helps.

Are they painted silver or is it 'sliver stickers'.

Well they are the newer ones so its the silver painted ones. But really message him. He may have or can get you on older chrome version.

You have been most helpful to me! Since the original GoLion is out of reach for me and Bandai's hands are tied on the SOC version, I reckon I get the next best thing. By the way, is the Matchbox deluxe Voltron the same with the original Bandai one? I keep seeing them on EBay but I don't see the sword? It's sad when a fan like me prefer a KO over an official product - in this case Toynami's Voltron.

Matchbox voltron is the same, but with no firing missiles or weapons whatsoever and the teeth are rounded. They were manufactured both in Taiwan (lead recall version) and Japan. Both versions are closer in color and quality to the godaikin version rather than the Taiwan Lionbot.
The blazing sword and shield set are the same as the godaikin (with the blue center shield and the sword has the hand guard with the cross) and they were sold separately on a bubble card (like a 80s/90s action figure).

Seems like you got the info you needed. I remember when I went through the same questions/decisions. First i got the trendmaster, then I went matchbox. If I did it again I might have went for a vintige lionbot instead.
check out RetroBlasting YouTube channel. They do a 2part voltron vid, 2nd part focuses on the toys.
